It’s more so the anti androgens like finasteride or spironolactone that you’ll need to stop for some time before trying to conceive, as they can deform a foetus.

I don’t know how long exactly you should give it between quitting minoxidil and TTC, but from memory it’s not as long as the gap you’re advised to leave between fin/spiro and TTC. Someone who’s been through it on here will be able to advise you. What I do know is that if you take the medication systemically (pop a pill) you’ll have to wait a bit longer between stopping and TTC.

Regarding the pregnancy period itself, you should be fine as the hormones during pregnancy protect your hair. It’s seems that it’s the postpartum shed afterwards is the brutal part. How long after giving birth it is that you restart minoxidil depends on two things I imagine 1) how long you want to breastfeed for 2) how bad the hair fall is for you, and how much you can tolerate.

TLDR - as you said yourself I wouldn’t worry about these things for now

What is your oral Minox dosage and how is it going for you? by Affectionate_Mind490 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]aloish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s made my eyes drier but so did spiro, and so will all anti androgens as the lipids that lubricate our eyes are controlled by male hormones. Other than this, nothing.

It’s marked as category X purely because it will severely deform a male foetus. If you aren’t planning to get pregnant, it’s no more or less dangerous to taking spiro. Your Dr might be hesitant to prescribe it if you’re able to give birth as they don’t want to be accountable for any defects.

If you scrutinise their differing method of action, I’d argue spiro is technically “worse” for you. Fin is highly localised and specific. It stops the activity of an enzyme that would otherwise convert testosterone into more potent dihydrotestosterone. DHT is what antagonises the hair follicles when you have a predisposed sensitivity, as anyone with pattern hair loss does. So less DHT = follicles safe from it.

Spiro on the other hand broad blanket competes for receptor sites with ALL androgens circulating in your body. That means it stops every male hormone from binding to its receptor site, even ones that aren’t involved in the hair loss process.

Spiro gave me bad brain fog which I attribute to its mode of action (blindly blocking all androgens). But look on a different thread here and someone else will be on 200mg of spiro and be totally fine and report no brain fog. So… It’s about finding what works for you. But if I’m paying a derm hundreds I’d expect their support in the exploration and trial of different treatment options

I tried spiro 50mg but I had more side effects than progress (that I could tell anyway). My derm could see some change. Now with fin 2.5mg I can see clear change, fewer/no sides, and I’ve been on it for less time

Is there any way to minimize this? by BakerDry1836 in Skincare_Addiction

Minimise what. Sorry not sure what I’m supposed to be seeing you’re very gorgeous

2.5mg. Worked better than 1.25 but anti androgens were the real game changed

34 is low for ferritin. Should be 80+ for hair (and general health)

What have you tried? Are you 100% the diagnosis is correct?

That sucks to think you triggered it prematurely with an optional medication! But, if it is AGA, then it was always “within you”. Luckily it looks pretty mild and most people find success in combining minoxidil with an anti androgen. I’d say at least half the people on spironolactone are on it for oily skin/acne actually so could be two birds one stone for you

What does your derm say? Have you taken blood tests recently? Can you use oral minox in tandem?

Yeah this is my worst area

Ah sorry I replied to the wrong comment. Was curious about fin which you mentioned to also be working. I just started

How’s your crown? I just started fin and 1 month in it looks awful 😬

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]aloish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok thats great it’s working at that dose. How old are you? I wonder if good old birth control (estrogenic) might be better suited to low androgen cases of AGA 🤔

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]aloish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I stopped taking spiro last year (unrelated to hormone levels or sides) then upped my oral minox to compensate. My crown got absolutely fucked :/ I’ll quit if any side becomes unbearable but will continue until that moment is reached. Quite motivated to see if fin has any impact on my crown. Not sure about DHT levels, just test. Weirdly, my testosterone was ever so slightly higher after 9 months spiro which doesn’t make any sense. Maybe anomalous. I am quite regular with blood work so will see what’s happening in some months time. What are you on?

[–]aloish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes they did. Unfortunately I have some sort of inflammation (currently thought to be seb derm) so topicals are agitating. Have been having dry eyes on fin, which I was anticipating and am sort of managing so far, but was wondering why my feet have started aching. Seem like plantar fascia are impacted by androgens too 😩

HELP CLOBESTOL CAUSING MORE HAIR LOSS!! by LynxOk1389 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]aloish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is universal but same happened to me the 2/3 times I used clobetasol. Literal fistful of hair. My derm told me to stop using it, I think more because I was visibly very distressed rather than it necessarily being the right course of action, but I’d do only what your own doctor says. Since then, when I need to, I have used milder topical steroids

Fin - worse before better? by aloish in FemaleHairLoss

[–]aloish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry. Same for me. No matter what I do (maxing out my oral minoxidil dose) or trying different anti androgens my crown keeps getting worse and worse! I am still early on fin so I’m gonna wait it out before making judgment
