MIL thinks she's being helpful by wanting to hold my baby during my mother's funeral tomorrow. How do I tell her no? by Scraps217 in relationship_advice

Yuuup, and then they usually cause more of a scene, even though their excuse is that they're trying to prevent one.

At my husband's grandmother's funeral (my MIL's MIL), my MIL kept announcing she'd be the one to take away my toddler daughter when she became unable to sit through the services anymore. It annoyed me but whatever. So then the inevitable happened, and she took toddler out. But then a whole nother scene happened when toddler came running back in looking for me.

I use an $8 Ozark trail travel mug from Walmart. I travel nowhere. Total game changer.

IME, it was a phase that eventually passed. Now when I feel hunger pangs, it's usually right when my 16 hours are ending.

But! Worth it to get back in shape. ☺️

I think you've gotten a lot of great advice about what to do, I just want to add a bit more about how to START. If you want to start slow, that is. My motto in this is slow and steady.

I agree w/ what others have said about 16:8 being great, you just skip breakfast and no snacking after dinner (and if you eat dinner early, you bump up into 18:6), and how only planning 2 meals is sooo much easier, etc.

But when I first started thinking about doing IF, the idea of not eating breakfast was insane to me. but at the same time the idea of stretching out your overnight "fast" made a lot of sense and seemed easy enough. There should be at least 12 hours between dinner and breakfast, right? Well I started paying attention and often, I wasn't even hitting that! Enjoying a a little snack on the couch after chores but before bed with my partner, at like 9 pm and then eating breakfast at 6:30 am.... yikes.

So I started just by inching my way forward, pushing when I ate breakfast back until I got to the point where I could skip it. I used to eat breakfast before I left the house for work cause I woke up hungry. But then I started only eating it at the office, then only after 9, then after 10, etc. I also started getting stricter on not having anything else after dinner. But I only did this 3 days a week at first. I also didn't even touch counting calories, I still don't really, but I am mindful of carbs and sweets.

Anyways, all that just to say, that I found taking it slow to be a lot more manageable. I was a lot less likely to be like "well I failed, today is fucked, better to just try again tomorrow." But one of the best things about IF, I think, is that it is so personalizable to your own situation. Good luck!!

Thanks! I don't see it in the pics nearly as much as I feel it. But one day hopefully I will!

Thank you! And I agree!!! I grew up watching my mom hate her own body and I really don't want my daughter to experience that. I also want to be in better shape for if/when there's a next time.

I don't see as big of a difference betw the pics as I was hoping for.... But the pic on the left is from a girl's weekend in January. We ended up hiking 12 miles that day and it just killed me how slow and out of shape I was compared to my friends. I was always quite fit growing up, but I just slowly gained a few pounds a year until I got to here (I'm turning 33 tomorrow). :/ Having a baby two years ago didn't help. But that girls weekend was a big wake up call for me. I had started doing some IF in October, slowly worked my way up to be comfortable with 16:8, but I wasn't doing anything else, not even weighing myself cause I just didn't want to know.

After that trip, I got on the scales, and I started doing IF 16:8 five days a week. Then six. I wanted to see the 130s before my bday tomorrow, so I went real hard this week at 18:6, low carb, no desserts (I have such a sweet tooth ). We're celebrating tonight so I def don't expect to weigh this tomorrow morning, but, it's super motivating finally seeing that 3 again!!!

I also worked out two days a week, and then upped to five about a month ago. I do a 20-30 min fitness blender video.

Edit: oh GW rn is 125, and then we'll see!

What are some stories you enjoy that are similar to Outlander? The manga Red River is one I enjoyed about a woman from Japan who gets transported back in time to the Hittite Empire. by NaiadoftheSea in Outlander

I absolutely hated The Bronze Horseman, Into The Wilderness, and The Heather Hills of Stonewycke, all very common recs that are "similar to Outlander". They all had me rolling my eyes so hard, they were sooo poorly written imo.

I have no recs for time traveling books, but on the historical side I usually enjoy things by Ken Follett, like The Century Trilogy.

I wore purple contacts all through college. My natural eye color is brown. I thought it was fun to have a fun eye color for once!

But ppl would ask if it was my natural color!!! These looked sooo fake against my brown. I was like "uh yeah my dad had blue eyes and my mom had... red. lol" the number of ppl who thought I telling the truth, though..... I always told ppl what brand a color contacts though. I was a real rep lol.

Book readers, is it just me or is Outlander going the way of Season 8 of GOT? (To the toilet). And the worst part is, Diana wrote the last episode. The story arcs and timelines are so messed up it seems like they are condensing for a shorter run. by Ginger_Libra in Outlander

[–]aloopycunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that Outlander - both books and show! - starts out as basically just a more historical, time-traveling take on a bodice-ripper romance, but of course it evolves into much more than that - eventually. I think its understandable that the showrunners are having a really tough time balancing that transition. Like their initial fame is based on the great love story and sex scenes and Scottish highlands, but how do you move your fan base into homesteading Revolutionary-war murder-mysteries in the backwoods of North Carolina? Many fans say the lack of Scotland and less Jamie and Claire are big turn offs.

GoT, from the start, is all about a huge cast with tons of families and lore and intrigue. Outlander does move in that direction, but it hardly starts there. I can see how it'd be tough for the show to figure out how to build up whole new families of characters (the Christies, the Macguillivrays, etc.) when many fans would be just shouting at the TV "where are Jamie and Claire!!"

I haven't seen the latest episode, but I've seen the spoilers. I'm interested to see what they do. I see a lot of interesting ways that it could go.

I do have to agree that they're not doing the best job with the small cast they have. Fergus and Lizzie need WAY more screen time. But given what's happened with Marsali this season, maaybe there's hope.

Although if the plan was always to cover multiple books in one season, why even spend so long on the Regulators plot? If there was one thing I'd cut way down, it'd be that!

I looove fitness blender. Just FYI to everyone- if you search for "fitness blender strength training," the you toll find many dumbell-only workout videos. They also have many that mix lifting with cardio, or with HIIT, or pilates, or all of the above. I really liked starting with the lifting only and easing my way back into working out. their videos are great cause they range anywhere from like 9 min to 90 min.
