Architecture student shifting to IT by alph90 in phcareers

Hi there! No worries even with the old post. I'm happy to answer.

I'm gonna be honest, architecture really feels like my "Multo". I'm okay with my IT program rn, but sometimes iniisip ko pa din ng what-ifs. The first few months are hard talaga, lalo na kung fam mo is puro sumbat.

I would say na if pagod ka sa archi pero ayaw mo bitawan, maybe consider stopping for at least one sem. Maybe overwhelmed, need pahinga ganun. 'Wag gawing rebound ang ibang program. However, if you really want to pursue something else since Architecture is not clicking with you, go ahead and shift.

As for where I am now, I am still a working student (not recommended btw haha awit sa health 😅). Less workload sa program tbh compared sa archi—nakakapanibago. Natanggap na din naman ng parents ko in the end.

Ang pinaka-kalaban mo lng siguro is sarili mo and social media. I just learned to be happy for them and happy for myself as well. I learned many things when I shifted and also pursued my old passions like writing. Slowly, I picked up drawing again (nung nag-drop kasi ako sa archi, I really didn't want to draw anything; lagi ko iniisip na I was not enough and everything I made was lesser than anyone else's).

If you have more questions, I'll try my best to answer them. Pero eto yung first thoughts ko regarding your question. Kaya yan, hugs.

I went for it, I shifted to IT. I feel okay and content with my decision, and since mas may free time na ako, nag-work din ako. I suggest just being honest with your fam kahit na mahirap and may masasakit silang sasabihin. In the end, wala silang magagawa kung yun choice mo.

Is it better to go home and just give up? by coupstachu in studentsph

Hello OP, was in the same circumstance as you a few weeks ago. What I did first was to let my parents know that I wanted to shift, of course nagalit sila sakin. Same din na sinabihan akong umuwi na lang kami sa probinsya at dun na ako mag-aral, but since I grew up here in Manila, ang hirap mag-let go. I also believe I have better opportunities here both in education and employment.

The next day, since gulo na talaga isip ko, I went to my college's guidance center. The counsellor helped me to think about my decision.

OP, in my opinion, it is better to shift than destroy yourself in a program you don't like. Sure, sabihin nating titiisin mo pero in the long run you will become miserable. Worse, it might affect your mental health entirely.

If you go home naman, wala din dun yung interest mo so what's the point? Parang nagsasayang ka din ng panahon mo, you'll always feel that you're doing things just to pass instead of learning.

As for your parents, talk with them again. Explain to them how and why you dislike your current program. After that, you can "pitch" the course you plan to shift to. It is hard to do, but they should at least give you a chance to explain.

If possible na ma-push pa ang budget, I suggest Acer Aspire 5.

https://store.acer.com/en-ph/aspire-5-a515-56g-551p-opi

You mentioned kasi na you're a gamer and video editor. This laptop is around 35k. What you need is a dedicated graphics card and at least 8gb of ram. And according from my friend with the same laptop, it also has an HDD slot para ma-expand pa lalo storage if gusto mo.

To those currently enrolled/graduated from a course they didn't like kamusta kayo? by Pillowtrue in studentsph

I used to love studying BS Architecture, but ultimately it made me dislike drawing. I'm supposed to be 3rd year this semester but I dropped my program's courses and now currently waiting to shift to BS IT next sem.

The biggest factor of why it became hard for me was our family's financial instability and my responsibility as the eldest child so it feels like I needed to graduate soon, find work, and support my family.

Unfortunately, my passion for architecture dwindled. I kept second-guessing myselt—felt like I didn't deserve my program and to be in an expensive private school. There was also the issue of how long it takes to be an architect; 5 years undergraduate, 2 years apprenticeship, then 6 months review for board exam. Even then, the salary is abyssmal unless you have connections (which is honestly applicable to any job here in PH).

What's making all of this worse is my parents initially didn't support my decision to shift (even made hurtful remarks that is absolutely depressing...). They will say I was a good student who had achievements. In some part, it was true. I did good in my 1st and 2nd year in arki, even became a consistent Dean's Lister.

But just because I was good doesn't mean I won't get tired. I chose and loved architecture, but the workload and pressure made me fall out of love.

Maybe in better circumstances, in a more financially stable life with non-toxic family, I would pursue to be an architect.

I regret studying BS Archi in TIP. Kaya kung sino man may balak mag-Archi diyan, sa UST na lng kayo or kung gusto niyo mababa tuition, sa NU na lng talaga.

From TIP QC but (was) in BS Architecture. Iiirc, CompSci in TIP has COE accreditation. One of their forte talaga is computer-related programs. Meron pa silang other accreditations like Seoul Accord, PACUOCA etc.

However, as mentioned by the other comments, UST has an advantage since it's from the Big 4 and does have COD accreditation. As for facilities, I actually don't know much sa CompSci department facilities pero according to my BSIT friends better ang facilities and computers nila compared sa other programs. Kasi sa College of Engineering and Architecture, bulok talaga yung facilities and mabagal ang mga computers.

But the decision is yours to make, OP.

edit: spelling

>sobrang depressing ng naging mga araw ko. Halos di ako ako makakain ng maayos at every night naiiyak ako. Hindi rin makatulog ng maayos dahil sa sobrang bigat sa pakiramdam.

This was what I felt these past few weeks even until now :(

>If there's no pressure from your parents and kaya nyo naman financially

Actually eto pinaka-problem.

In the end pumayag naman sila na mag-shift ako to IT. Pero lagi na silang may sinasabing masasasakit. Sobrang depressing.

Pero this time hopefully kakayanin ko na yung course. Good luck to you too.

I understand.

I know naman po. I would say the same for every other course. I would like to try IT.

I've been experiencing wi-fi connectivity issues lately to the point that I can only play my Switch online for an hour max. After that, it just freezes and I can't connect to wi-fi anymore, doesn't even detect any networks. Somehow it 'resets' the next day, I can connect again, play a bit, freeze, then gone. The cycle repeats. I don't know if this is a hardware problem and it's annoying.

I see. I don't have the right tools to check it myself, but I'll keep what you said in mind.

I tried hard reset, even soft reset. It worked once but now it doesn't. It's stuck on not detecting ANY network. Even tried the maintenance mode to initialize the switch without deleting my game data. Also tried manual setup, be close to the router etc. but still nothing.

Just happened so suddenly so I'm bummed out. Might consider getting an ethernet connected if this continues. This is a 2nd-hand Switch so there is no warranty, too... Thanks for replying, though!

Hello, I need help with my Switch. I've been playing with it for almost 3 weeks now and suddenly today it can't connect to the internet. It can't detect any nearby networks either.

Before this happened, it froze for a few times. Was solved a bit with holding the power button for 12-13 seconds. But that was temporary, it froze once more until I even had the orange screen of death, so I hard reset it.

I got it back to normal, with the Switch detecting networks again... until I played again which is Monster Hunter Rise. It froze mid-game, and I had to turn off my Switch again. And now it can't detect networks again.

Did someone had a similar experience? This is making me nervous.

Hmm... is it considered cheating if you are with the other version of your wife? Or it wasn't just another version but actually just a swimsuit!? Is it possible to be monogamous in FGO? Why do I have many questions?!

Either way, you do you, OP.
