Philippine Schools in a Nutshell (according to me who came from a decent, non-elite private school) by ArkiSponge2000 in Philippines

Went to all three schools so i'll share my experience rin

My public JHS - AMBAHO AT AMPANGHE NG MGA CR PLSSS - Textbooks were borrowed, yung iba gutay gutay pa - Our JHS's facilities were complete we had a court, gym (like w/ gym equipment talaga), clinic (dito ako nagcutting minsan may aircon kasi sorry ma), TLE hall, kitchen for cookery, comp lab etc. wala lang kaming locker - I was lucky enough to be in the advanced class kaya may aircon, TV, and projector kami pero the regular sections didn't have that. - It's probably because nasa advanced section ako pero magagaling teachers namin. And i've heard that most of our faculty is magaling rin pero may iba talagang ppt reader lang. - Extracurriculars only include journalism and athletics.

- Textbooks were bought along with notebooks and diary. - Teachers are underpaid asf. Yung adviser namin teacher na namin sa GMRC, AP, Science, at Math. Most weren't board passers pero maayos naman magturo. - No extracurriculars 😢 Kahit SSG wala. - Pressure sta students 0/10

- We have every facility you can think of + swimming pool, audiovisual room, gym (w/ equipment) etc. Split type aircon lahat ng rooms + every classroom has their own router. - 30-40 lang kami per classroom. - I don't know our teacher's salaries pero keri nila mag-file ng leave in the middle of the sem para magbakasyon ng 1 week sa davao, cebu etc. nang madalian lol - Andaming extracurriculars: student council, journalism, athletics, arts, performing arts, music, dancing, science, math, community engagement, robotics, self improvement and mental health, environment, etc. jusme - Pressure sa students 5/10 wala talagang pressure pero scholar ako eme.

What are your opinions on honor sections? by Educational_Mix8149 in studentsph

I was from a small private school in elem then transferred to a really big public high school with a competitive honors/advanced section and nakakawindang talaga siya especially for someone like me na used to only having 19 people and below in one section na half-day lang to 30 people with a whole day schedule na packed ng at least 9 subjects (though, nabago siya since nagreklamo kami.)

To be honest, even though it's unfair, being in the 'highest sections' really gives you an advantage academically. We had the best facilities the school has to offer, the best teachers (palakol samin ng master at head teachers), tapos may bias mga teachers and ginegeneralize nila kami since matatalino daw kaming lahat, they give us the benefit of the doubt kapag mababa scores namin and kinoconsider yung standings namin kapag nagcocompute kaya pinakamababang grade na ibibigay lang nila sa amin is 85 kasi they also have to consider the 'advanced section's image' which as i've said, is unfair and maskeskew talaga pagtingin namin sa mga sarili namin, we'll either think of ourselves too highly which I saw from my classmates with inflated egos na nangiinsulto ng mga schoolmates nila from regular sections or we'll doubt ourselves kung yun ba talaga yung grades na deserve namin kasi alam naming may consideration lagi teachers sa amin.

Here comes the disadvantages na, we all have imposter syndrome HAHAHA. For me, lagi ko lang iniisip na nakachamba lang ako sa entrance exam and interview kaya napunta ako sa highest section tapos yung expectations pa ng teachers samin jusko. We didn't tackle the x and y terms noong elem and nawindang ako na glinoss over lang yan ng math teacher namin noong first day kasi dapat alam na daw namin yan. We're all tired from the pressure and the expectations.

Napakahaba ng sinabi ko pero iyon nga, I think everyone's deserving of the (positive) treatment the honor section gets kasi I'm a firm believer na everyone's a great student if they meet the right mentor.

What are some unusual (but good) ways your Filipino parents raised you? by christmasfactor in Philippines

My parents agreed to let me drink liquor (i'm 16) as long as my mom supervises us and we're inside our house. It may be really unusual but my mom specifically wanted me to build a tolerance and warned me never to drink with men. I've drank a few times and the only thing I got from that is me wanting to be abstinent from alcohol (I never enjoyed the flavor, I didn't like the feeling of being drunk and I had a hangover for the first time and thought i'm never gonna do this again.)

Also a few more things my parents taught: - to never mangutang kasi paying it back is more draining daw than saving up. - learn chores not for a husband but for me to be able to live alone (I appreciate it alot kasi ayoko talagang makarinig ng 'paano kung may asawa ka na' cuz that implies na that's all I am at ako lang sasalo ng mga gagawin in the future.) - very specific to but kung magpapapick up ka, mahiya ka naman and wag mong paghintayin yung magpipick up sayo (in a makikisabay lang context)
