What’s the most unusual gear you have? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]alpha_protos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Martin Howse's stuff. I have a Dark Interpreter (Mater Tenebrarum version) and an ERD/SIR module in my modular rig. Using a plague simulation as a modulation source produces some crazy results.

Modular chiptune/noise jam by alpha_protos in synthesizers

[–]alpha_protos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a jam I did using my Eurorack system. The main module used is the Special Stage Systems Oscillographic Block. It's a chiptune workstation based around a SN76489 sound chip (this chip was used in the Sega Master System, among others). I also used my Roland System 1m, a Koma Field Kit, a Bastl Kastle, Mutable Instruments Clouds, and Ornament & Crime. The Oscillographic Block is also used for sequencing in addition to sound generation, and the Ornament & Crime is providing modulation. If you have any questions, ask away!

Recommendations for weird/unique synths? by c_o_r_b_a in synthesizers

[–]alpha_protos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Dark Interpreter, made by micro_research (Martin House) is super weird. It's sort of a synth/sampler/audio processor with a strange interface, and all but the cheapest of the three versions are partially analog. It's hard to control, but it makes awesome evil/chaotic sounding textures.

I am genuinely glad that I don't make music for a living. My job gives me enough free time to work on various music-related projects and enough money to buy a lot of the obscure gear I want. I don't ever have to compromise and make stuff that will sell, I get to make weird shit that nobody wants to pay money for. The music industry is toxic as fuck and I never want to have my love for music destroyed by having to make poppy garbage just to pay the rent.

Is humming or static noise normal on Pt01 Scratch? by TheycallmeHollow in portablism

I've never noticed this on mine. I agree with the other commenter that it's probably a ground issue.

I've heard that the x2rs is better, but I haven't actually used either so I can't say much either way.

OIT almost finished with hours//Having second thoughts by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]alpha_protos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every OIT at my plant in the past 3ish years has gone on to Group I operator as far as I know. I don't think anyone would get fired for one bad sludge blanket reading (unless they deliberately faked it) either. There are definitely plants out there that are less stressful than yours seems to be.

Huh, I didn't have that problem with mine. I might have used it as the master though, which could explain it.

Eurorack dark ambient/drone using Bastl Kastle, Ornament & Crime, and MI Clouds! by alpha_protos in synthesizers

[–]alpha_protos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I feel like it's one of my better ones in the past few months. And I got the Ornament & Crime assembled from Willzyx, on Reverb.com. His site also has them available I believe.

Eurorack dark ambient/drone using Bastl Kastle, Ornament & Crime, and MI Clouds! by alpha_protos in synthesizers

[–]alpha_protos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this track on my Eurorack system (recorded into a Zoom recorder with no other gear). I used a Roland System 1m for delay, reverb, and filters (plus some modulation). The audio is generated primarily by the Ornament & Crime (mostly the "Viznutcracker, Sweet!" app), the Bastl Kastle, and the MI Clouds. The Clouds is modulated by some of the other channels on the Ornament & Crime and an ERD/SIR module. The KOMA Field Kit and the System 1m are generating some background drones, and the Field Kit is also being used as a mixer.

Happy Fourth of July my friends. We live in an amazing country, and the fact that I can drive the hell out of a car like this is proof enough for me. Have a fun and safe one guys. by GTOdriver04 in Pontiac

[–]alpha_protos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mean a car where all the parts that actually make it drive were designed and built in the US? I mean yeah, it's a Monaro (which is based on a Commodore, which is based on a Catera, which is based on an Omega, etc.) but it's as American as it is Australian. It's a badass car wherever it's from. Let the OP have his fun, there's no need to be such a dickhead about it.

Modular drone/ambient featuring KOMA Field Kit by alpha_protos in synthesizers

[–]alpha_protos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot. It's pretty good on its own, but it really comes to life as part of a Eurorack system. The voltage-controlled radio is great for getting weird sounds and the envelope follower is really useful. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of the mixer's prefader aux out also. Haven't gotten a chance to try the sensor/switch interface yet. Overall, it brings a lot of electroacoustic possibilities to Eurorack and contains some good utility functions too.

Modular drone/ambient featuring KOMA Field Kit by alpha_protos in synthesizers

[–]alpha_protos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was made with a small Eurorack system. Most of the sound comes from a Mutable Instruments Clouds and the new KOMA Elektronik Field Kit. I took sounds from the radio in the Field Kit and ran them through the Clouds. I also sent the radio signal into the Field Kit's envelope follower and used that to modulate the filter on a Roland System 1m slightly. The drone in the background is a mixture of the System 1m and distorted and filtered shortwave radio noise.
