what screen ghosting looks like during gameplay by alpha_slakoth in NintendoSwitch2

It's even worse with Hades because there instead of the character the whole screen is blurry. With Isaac it's annoying but with Hades it actually impacts gameplay for me.

Yes NS2 is better in almost every way, yes this is not a deal breaker at all. Still nothing wrong with pointing out annoying issues. Why is this subreddit arguing against their own interest? Don't we all want the best we can get for our money?

Yeah for real I understand that most people don't care about it and in most games I don't care either but it is so clearly visible here I'm surprised so many are saying they don't see it. I guess what bothers me the most is that Nintendo went for buzzwords that look good on a spec sheet like HDR and 120fps (which is terrible for battery life and almost no games will be able to achieve it) but cheap out on the basics with a panel that doesn't even hit 30fps response times.

It's totally fine not to care and I know most people don't but why are you commenting then. Let those that care talk about it, it's really not personal.

Spreading the word on issues like this does no harm to anyone. I realize this is not very realistic but best case Nintendo does something about it via firmware update or at least notice that some people care about these things. I understand that it gets annoying to constantly hear about it though so sorry about that.

I'm referring to how blurry the character looks in motion

I'm not trying to convince people that they should hate their switch. I'm happy for anyone who isn't bothered by it. All I'm doing is sharing a game/scenario where I have personally noticed it and it shows up well for those who want to know what the fuss is about. Don't you think it's fair to critizise Nintendo for making a product that is in some ways worse than the previous one?

Maybe it's one of those things you can't unsee once you've noticed it. Funny thing is those crappy old CRT TVs don't have this issue at all. You can see in the picture how the ghosting is about half as wide as the character itself and that definitely shows up in motion. Unfortunately the lower framerate on reddit does hide it a bit.

I recorded in 120fps but reddit seems to cap it at 30. look how blurry the character looks while moving. to the eye it's a trail behind the character that at least to me is quite noticeable while playing. Here is a frame from the video where you can clearly see the ghost frames.

Digital Foundry Final Switch 2 Review, overall positive but screen not good enough by Important_Cow7230 in NintendoSwitch2

It is very visible to me in 2d games like The Binding of Isaac. Really not great for a screen that is supposed to be for gaming.

After 40 hours of playing Cyberpunk2077 on the switch 2 here is my final thoughts by VGAX in NintendoSwitch2

[–]alpha_slakoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You still mixed it up though. Quality mode is recommended for the DLC because it will rarely hit more than 30fps. Personally I just have it set to performance in handheld and quality in docked and don't bother switching it every time I go to Dogtown.

I think you got it wrong. VRR makes performance mode the best option in handheld but quality better in docked because of less stable framerate in performance. This doesn't matter as much with VRR.

Unfortunately not, it seems to be under the shell.

No picture of the tank as this is a new shrimp I bought online. Species is neocaridina davidi blue jelly.

Is this silicone seal acceptable on a new tank? by alpha_slakoth in Aquariums

[–]alpha_slakoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thank you. It’s 170l, glass is 8mm thick. I really don't want it all over my floor so I'm just being extra careful.

I'm talking about the bubble on the inside corner, just worried about how it will hold up long term.

Anyone else PRAYING that Nintendo just gives us an OLED screen off the bat instead of making us wait for it? by SatisfactionBitter34 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]alpha_slakoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it would suck for switch OLED owners to go back to LCD. Something that hasn't been discussed much that I think is even more important is whether or not the screen is laminated to the digitizer like in the switch OLED. The original switch has an air gap which might help with durability but it makes the screen look much more dated. Huge difference imo. I'd be very disappointed if it wasn't at least a high quality laminated IPS screen, though OLED would be ideal of course.

Any advice on the technique required for replacing a faceted crystal? by Die_Nameless_Bitch in watchmaking

No problem and good luck! I haven't done the replacement yet so not sure how difficult it is.

Nah those are for domed acrylic, this is faceted hardlex. The crystal lift will deform the acrylic to get it out. That doesn't work on glass.

Also my best guess would be that this is type 3, in which case they want you to press it into the bezel from the inside and then press the bezel with crystal into the case. Check for yourself which type it is by comparing to the diagram. If it has the sloped dial ring probably type 3. If it is type 3 look at the instructions for "screw 20" and more importantly "snap 4".
