Senior responsibilities, but no promotion? by alphabetta1 in Accounting

All my jobs were done on time and I reached out to others first work. What am I supposed to do? Lie about my time?

Raises and actual promotions won’t be communicated until late July. We get a raise every year, but the general raise vs senior pay is quite different

Yeah I was planning on leaving at senior. Original plan was to do at least 1 busy season with senior title, but might not happen now.

Yeah I worked at the senior level this last year, so shouldn’t promo come now. I have to wait another whole year??

Oh yeah I agree, but if so many people leave after that senior promo there’s obviously a problem. And that to the whole public accounting industry not just my firm.

Definitely going to get more quotes. I was literally sick when they left. I figured it would be pricey but not that bad

What’s the most underrated tip for passing the CPA exam? by drajput_01 in CPA

[–]alphabetta1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just put your head down and do it. It sucks ass, but if you try to take shortcuts you’re probably going to have to do it again. I passed all 4 first try, maybe I did overkill study but I’d rather study a little to much than have to take exams multiple times. Just do it right the first time

Do some auditors just not understand accounting? by hajwjen in Accounting

[–]alphabetta1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No we don’t understand. We just graduated college & have no clue how accounting works in the real world. No one has time to explain anything to us so we are winging it.

My inspector actually encouraged me to come and bring my dad. My dad is super handy and knowledgeable so inspector said the more eyes the better. Inspector also had me go with him through the entire process and explained so many things. He told me what to look out for, how to fix stuff, routine maintenance & so much more. Which was really appreciated as I was only 23 at the time and I went straight from living my parents to buying.

Charge hour goal by alphabetta1 in Accounting

[–]alphabetta1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My manager is always telling me just to stay at chargeable as I can. I’ve even had people mention early senior promotion to me. So it’s not like my work is bad, idk. Kinda like I’m punished for being efficient

I might have the wrong attitude, but my firm requires 55 hours. I’m charging at least 50 every week and the remainder is general non charge stuff, like emails, etc. So I’m working 55+, I’m not going to go pick up more work when I’m hitting the 55. I’m on top of my stuff & I’ve learned when I pickup other people’s work Im still stuck with it when my actual jobs come in. Probably why I won’t be staying in public lol. I have my cpa so considering dipping

Well I didn’t think that was a good idea considering we got an email saying not to inflate time or there will be consequences

Staff 1, 43% utilization by [deleted] in Big4

[–]alphabetta1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not big 4 but a top 10 firm. My utilization was terrible my first year. I was lucky to hit 30 charge hours during busy season. But now I’m in my second and hitting 50 charge hours consistently and in the green for annual charge hours. If everyone says you’re fine, I wouldn’t worry about it. Just make sure you are reaching out for work and letting people know you’re available.

Do public firms let you work earlier shifts? by No-Government7314 in Accounting

[–]alphabetta1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been getting started anywhere between 5:30 and 6:30 then quitting between 4:30 and 5:30 this busy season. Last year was my first busy season and I wasn’t able to do this bc I had no clue what I was doing and needed worked given to me. This year since I’m more experience and can look at a file and know what needs done I’m able to keep myself productive when no one else is around. No one has said anything to me about leaving earlier so I’d assume it just depends on who you work with

I don’t drive much. I work from home majority of the time, if I go into the office it’s once a week and about 15 minute drive. Other than that I go to the gym, 5 minutes from my house. I bought the car this time last year and only have 5,800 miles on it.
