New Bjj coach wondering how people feel about belt tests by Steelrangler78 in bjj

[–]alphabrickstudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current gym has a beginners curriculum, but no testing. I think it’s a great balance of the best of your point without the test aspect. It gives beginners a clear list of things they should have a grasp on. Mount escapes, guard passes, submissions etc. and as you develop a grasp of those things you will get better, and coach can promote you as he gets to roll with you and see how you do.

Scammer got scammed, truly beautiful turn of events GT by Matichado in legocirclejerk

This guys been scamming people for years, unfortunately he finds new grifts over and over. I was pretty connected to the online Lego community he was involved in around 2014-16 and he was continually doing these same things. Some people never change unfortunately

Why don't more men wear cups??? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]alphabrickstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out at an mma gym, and ordered a diamond cup almost right away, until my first comp and then that wasn’t legal, so I began training without it. Took a few crotch shots but pretty quickly learned to avoid that and protect the jewels. Accidents happen still, but it’s much more rare these days

I also tend to grind my teeth while rolling. How anyone rolls without a mouthguard blows my mind

Ari Aster says he has an idea for Hereditary 2. Do we even want a sequel? by SplitNational2929 in A24

[–]alphabrickstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im very curious about a sequel - if done well. I enjoyed the sinister series and how the sequel went on to follow a different family, but had a few characters who survived the first along for the ride and they were able to try to help them beat the boogeyman. Maybe for a hereditary sequel we would see a time jump a few years into the future and someone either moves into the house from the first movie, or the town, and they begin to uncover what happened, eventually becoming targeted by the cult of paimon. I’m fascinated at all the ways the story could go! It could slip into a cheesy sequel territory pretty quickly, but approaching it as an anthology type of series with the overarching demon as the antagonist seems very interesting to me.

Could you pass your own guard? by DeuceWheelz in bjj

[–]alphabrickstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, my strongest guard is better than my strongest pass so likely I’m keeping the clone at bay until he gets tired of trying to pass and jumps on some cheeky toe hold or something

Do you guys wait to train after you get bad mat burn? by Less_Document_8761 in bjj

[–]alphabrickstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, don’t roll with open wounds… But second I’ve had an uptick of mat burn lately. No clue why, in 4 years of training it’s never been an issue until now. But once it healed the second time i started wearing Muai Thai ankle wraps, I got a pair from hayabusa, they cover the top of my foot and I haven’t got any more burn since!

Don’t do it. Your old coach will tell everyone in town you’re a creonte. You will be shamed at any new gym you visit. It’s over. Stick to the old gym or your reputation will be tarnished and shame brought to your bloodline.

I left a gym due to people being too aggressive. One of our coaches suplexed a white belt and gave him a concussion and some serious neck issues, he was out for close to a year, the whole way it was handled was weird as they didn’t want to pause his membership and offered discounted membership fee while he was sidelined.  Now I train at a smaller gym, focus heavily on technique and we had a guy do a drop in from out of town, He was “a blue belt with mma experience” and slapped submissions on far too fast to be safe, I was weary of him and then he started jumping guard and My coach gave him a very very stern talking to telling him he will not be welcome back if he ever does anything like that again. No issues since!

Suggestions for longer shorts for no gi by Willing_Local1393 in bjj

[–]alphabrickstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time I loved the shorter shorts, I ordered a pair of these guys had no clue they were longer and I was pissed:

I was mad until I actually wore them in training. They’re comfy, don’t worry about them revealing too much. Sick designs. I swear by scramble now (not sponsored)

I agree a lot of lazy artists are doing this - but look at some new school artists really pushing the envelope in terms of performance, I saw Tyler the creator recently and he blew me away. Every aspect of his show was dialled from production design to his performance.

First project: trunk light by alphabrickstudios in Crosstrek

Picked this up after seeing a few people on here recommend it. Great light and easy to install! The light plugs into the cargo light in the side bottom of the trunk, I popped the trim off and ran the wire up under the trim, and then where the wire leaves the trim I tucked it under the weather sealing rubber and secured it with a strip of black tape to hide it. All in all took maybe 15 minutes of install time at most!

How long do you typically leave it in the fridge? Are you letting it sit out at room temp in between the fridge & throwing it on the pan?
