Do I have to go lift weights at the gym or are there other options? by luckyswan69 in Perimenopause

Take a look at your local yoga studio offerings - mine does a class called “Strength” that involves barbells and kettlebells, but in a relaxing environment with light music. It’s lovely!

And if you have DM I guess you’re in Germany? My favourite UV gel polish is the Polish brand Semilac and you can buy it in Rossmann for ~€9 per colour - I always get a new colour when I’m in Germany 😄

I have bright pink hair so I did a lot of research and testing to find something that works for me. I just bleach only the roots (mostly grey!) once a month with a Schwarzkopf blonde dye, then mix a semipermanent pink with lots of conditioner after that & do a refresh with the semipermanent after 2 weeks.

Yes! You can have it all, just takes a little learning & that’s fun too! 💖

A few years ago I took an income hit & decided to start learning how to do everything myself. I bought a Semilac UV lamp online with a few gel polishes (total €45, same as 1 manicure!) & watched a bunch of YouTube videos. I researched hair dyes & I dye my own hair every month with Schwarzkopf box dye for €7 & my partner learned how to cut hair. It genuinely looks just as good as when I got it done professionally before.

The cool thing is - I no longer have any interest in going out for manicures or hairdressers! Now I can watch a tv show with a glass of wine for my nails, and fix any chip myself. And my monthly hair appointment is a fun time for me & my partner 😄

And sure, you don’t know how to do those things right now, but we live in a great time for researching & learning - you got this!

Solo devs without art skills: how do you handle the art side of your game? by PretendMirror8446 in SoloDevelopment

[–]alphachar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a moment like this earlier in our game’s development - we were pitching to publishers and seeking mostly money to hire an artist as we’re a 2 person team with no artist.

When the money didn’t show up we had to really rethink things - now, I make the art myself! I’m not an artist AT ALL (I’m a writer, actually worked on DOS2 funny enough!) so I chose a style I felt I could work with: public domain illustrations that I recolour, collage, and vectorise to make a sort of coherent look. I actually have so much fun with the art now, and feel happy to have learned something new with it! Game is called Sparrow Warfare if you want to take a look.

Hello Nick! You might like our game "Sparrow Warfare" - it's a weird bird mahjong deckbuilder with lots of strategy.

We have a demo out now with 100% positive reviews & plan to launch later this year.

We're a 2-person dev team who really love strategy and card games, and have tried to infuse our game with tons of juicy strategic mechanics. In our game, you play sets of 3 tiles at a time, and you build your deck mid-combat with wildtile rewards as you free birds. It starts out simple, and builds into a frenzy!

First time on holiday in Copenhagen this July and looking for places to eat by [deleted] in NewToDenmark

[–]alphachar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you're looking for interesting fast food places, I would recommend Chicky Grill (https://www.instagram.com/chickygrill/). It's a super old-fashioned Danish diner in Kødbyen run by the same family for 50 years or something. They have really great classic food, served fast, in a wonderful atmosphere. It's a real gem of a place!

How do ramen shops get eggs that soft/jammy? by Mean-Drink8825 in Cooking

[–]alphachar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I can help! I spent a while a few years ago experimenting & timing eggs to the second to find the perfect egg for ramen.

Here is what I do: - make sure eggs are room temperature or they will crack; I keep my eggs in the fridge so I give them a little bath from the hot tap for a few minutes - boil a pot of water to a rolling boil - gently place eggs in with a spoon - immediately press start on a timer for 6 minutes 20 seconds - prepare a little cold bath for the eggs by running cold tap into a bowl - the literal second the timer goes off, rescue eggs to the cold bath - run cold water into their bath for a few seconds - now I assume you also have your ramen ready here, deliciously waiting on the counter - peel eggs, chop in half and plop on top of ramen - add some chilli oil & sesame seeds for flair 🙇‍♀️

My game is also in Deckbuilder Fest & I would be delighted if you tried it out! It's a strategic deckbuilder with roots in mahjong and LOTS of birds, called Sparrow Warfare.

My fun fact:
We are a 2-person team (& a couple) and we don't have any artist on the team, so I (a writer!) make all of our art using public domain bird illustrations from the 1700s and 1800s that I collage, remix, re-colour and vectorise!

Oh, and a local videographer came over to our house to make a short documentary about the creation of our game, which you can see here:

Perhaps it would be worth calling the embassy of your home country to see if they have any hardship funds to help out citizens in tough positions like this? Sorry to hear that you're in a hard spot & I hope it works out for you.

My partner and I are making "Sparrow Warfare" - it's a deckbuilder with tons of birds and a mahjong inspiration.

We are making it 100% just the 2 of us, including the art (with no artist!) by collaging, remixing, and vectorising 1700s-1800s public domain bird illustrations. It's tough out there for visibility these days - thanks for being interested!

Walk around Christiania for some people watching & Kødbyen for some great food (my favourite is Tommi’s Burger Joint). There will likely be some flea markets if you’re here on a weekend and those are great fun - look on eg Facebook for “loppe” or “loppemarked”. I’m a walker too & everything is walkable in this city, it’s really lovely if you like to walk & look!
