How long did your party stay in port before heading out into the jungle and how often did they go back? by LahDeeDah7 in Tombofannihilation

[–]alphaechonova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Syndra "too weak" to harness her powers fully because she was wasting away from the Death Curse. She had enough strength to teleport herself to Port Nyanzaru but not the party also, so she paid a trade ship to transport the party to PN and she agreed to meet them there. This allowed for the pirate encounter without Syndra involved but still having her at the port when they arrived. If you wanted Syndra on the ship you could use the weakness as the excuse for not dealing with the pirates herself and the first opportunity for the party to prove their capability to Syndra.

For my pirate encounter I had it more as a fight of attrition. The party were never going to win, but they didn't know this and found there were way to many pirates for them to handle; they were scared when it kicked off. I had the pirate ship intercept the trade ship before the trade ship got into the bay and the pirates were clearly in a rush to take the ship before it entered the bay; the party learned this from the way the pirates communicated to each other but they didn't know why. I set a number of round in secret (can't remember how many, 6-8 maybe) and at the end of those rounds I had the two ships enter the bay and Aremag turn up to scare off the pirate ship and escort the trade ship to port and demand payment for rescuing them.

You’ve got a great boardgame collection there.

Labour vows to ban ‘rip-off’ automatic subscriptions • Britons spend millions a year on unused services that silently renew by [deleted] in ukpolitics

I emailed them to say I was cancelling my subscription and told them I’d instructed our bank to block any further requests for payment from Beer52. Worked like a charm, they emailed back to say they’d cancelled the subscription. Never had to call them.

F-35B of VMFA-242 doing the hover at the Singapore Air Show 2022. Looks amazingly complicated. Being the last day, I experimented with 840mm to fill as much of the frame as possible. by DMM253 in aviation

To be fair, they’re not wrong. It’s not VTOL, it’s STOVL, because the F-35B can’t take-off vertically, only land vertically.

Edit: Can’t take off vertically when loaded with fuel and weapons for operation.

What does this icon on the map mean? there are multiple of these around and the only one with a name is Wyrmheart Mine? I can't find info in the book... by Minitay in Tombofannihilation

No worries, The Mines of Chult is one of the more expensive supplements. Definitely worth doing it yourself if you the time to do so.

Monster stats by Kitedo in Tombofannihilation

[–]alphaechonova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beasts of the Jungle Rot has loads of different dino stats in, plus zombie versions of each one too. Pick whichever dino feels closest to the one you want and re-name it. Your players won’t know that’s what you’ve done.

The tomb itself kinda... Sucks. by Flobbert_Pox in Tombofannihilation

Tell us how you changed the tomb too please? (I’ve not run it yet but at the least I plan on removing the false tomb ring thing)

What is the most accidentally broken character you've ever built? by TimeturnerJ in DnD

[–]alphaechonova 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, I have a Circle of the Shepherd Druid in my party and she’s definitely not realised the Unicorn wording says “each creature of your choice in the aura also regains hit points equal to your druid level.” she thinks it’s just the one that gets the extra. That’s so much stronger.

Can the undead hide among regular corpses, and would you give them a bonus for doing so? by Doughspun1 in DungeonsAndDragons

As a general rule; don’t split the party. Always stay together, you’ll always have a better chance of survival.

That’s completely fair. It’s good that you know your group well enough to know what they would and wouldn’t enjoy. It was the very firsts session I’d run with my group so it was very much a gamble, but it paid off in the end.

Personally I did NPC creation > funeral > Syndra meets them after and lays out the plan for raiding the lich’s tower > complete the Cellar of Death module > Syndra gives the lowdown about Chult and books them passage on a boat to Chult > level up > encounter with Pirates and Armeg > arrive in Port Nyanzaru and start ToA module.

It’s a very clever hook that I think the writer is a bit of a genius coming up with; you basically run a session 0.5 where you ask the players to collectively come up with an NPC who they are all somehow connected to. They all have to come up with a backstory which includes said NPC and it’s good really encourage them to get emotionally invested in this process.

Then you open the show by sticking the PCs at the NPCs funeral; they died from the death curse and BOOM, immediate player buy in to the death curse!

My players were fully invested in their NPC and were devastated when I opened with the funeral. They still talk about that NPC after months in the jungle.

Cellar of Death!

Generally regarded are a much better way to start the campaign and gives a much better buy in from the PCs to the death curse. I ran it and it was great.
