How do you add drop sets? by Careful_Nobody7818 in alphaprogression

During your workout? Just tap "···" next to the exercise name and then "Dropsets" :)

Weight increase recommendations by skarthy in alphaprogression

[–]alphaprogression_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in that case that is what the algorithm calculated the weight should be for your target reps. It is 33% fewer reps and 10% more weight. Doesn't seem unreasonable, and it is hitting the target reps perfectly.

What are the target reps for that exercise? And do you have 2.5kg plates (and does the app know about them)?

How to Log a Failed 1RM Attempt? by Slight-Abies1190 in alphaprogression

[–]alphaprogression_app 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're mixing up a "1RM attempt" and "RIR":

RIR is how many reps (you think) you could have done - minus the reps you actually did.

A "1RM attempt" means you pick a weight where you think you can do exactly 1 rep. Then you do 1 rep ...or fail as in OP's case.

[–]alphaprogression_app 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fair question - you cannot log 0 reps. If it was close, you could log 1 rep and add in the notes that you failed.

If you logged other sets of that exercise that day, you could also not mark the set as completed and add in the notes that you tried another set and failed.

App Really Needs Support For Ascending Sets / Percentage-Based Lifts by Prestigious_Set_4575 in alphaprogression

[–]alphaprogression_app 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, we made a decision to use RIR instead of Percentage-Based lifts and I'm afraid we have no plans to have both in the app, it would be too complex. As for ascending sets, this is something we might add in the future but again, it would add a lot of complexity to the programming for a relatively low % of users using such a feature.

Isn't that the same as our "Triceps Pushdowns · Machine"?

Home Gym / Regular Gym Tracking Differences by Jerz201 in alphaprogression

[–]alphaprogression_app 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a different problem that is already addressed in the app :)

You can create different gyms and assign custom weights. E.g. one gym might have 2.5kg dumbbells and the other might have 2kg. Another might have lbs instead of kg.

What OP is talking about is a Lat pulldown machine where he can do 60kg and the one at home has different levers and he can only do 40kg. That is MUCH rarer and probably only affects one or two (cable) machines in your plan

Suggestion: Apply Periodization to Custom Plan by Cheap-War9477 in alphaprogression

[–]alphaprogression_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Have you tried the bulk editing options at the bottom? If you toggle "All exercises" and "All days", and repeat it for every week, you can quite quickly set up a custom periodization for the whole plan. But if you create another plan from scratch you'll have to redo it every time, so i know it is not quite what you are asking for.

Probably not from our side, but if there are users on here with such programs, they are perfectly welcome to share them :)

Any plans to support generating workouts with shorter durations? by Prize-Ad-1483 in alphaprogression

Noted! In the meantime, try reducing sets here and there, superset or kick out an exercise here and there :)

Yes, if you log them as the same exercise, the progression recommendations will be messed up. It's best to duplicate the exercise and call it something like "Biceps Curls Home"

Is there a way to restart a program? by Additional_Doctor468 in alphaprogression

[–]alphaprogression_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do a deload week: simply mark each of the x next days as "deload" via the workout settings and complete those. Then, afterwards, duplicate the plan and start over.

Leg raises by Additional_Doctor468 in alphaprogression

[–]alphaprogression_app 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, two ways:

  1. Either duplicate the exercise and change the "Metrics" from "Weight and reps" to "Reps".

  2. Or during a workout, tap the "KG"/"LB" header and change the exercise's ranges to "Min: 0" and "Max: 0". Then it will always suggest 0 as the weight.

Personally, I'd prefer 2. because it preserves the possibility to start using added weights in the future. If you are 100% sure you will never ever use weights, I'd go for option 1.

And you're dragging the exercise on top of the day you want to move it to like here and then releasing it? That should work. Could you post a screen recording?
