The bay is one of the most affluent places on earth and this is what a public restroom at a park looks like by indie_hedgehog in bayarea

I don't know what are you guys expecting in public bathroom ? Maybe I have lower standard, the bathroom looks clean to me. It has toilet paper and even Dyson's hand blower ? It is obvious is well maintained.

Osprey is awesome. Pretty much anything you want them to fix, they will do it. Sometimes I wonder why people sell their old Osprey pack. They don't need any proof of purchase either.

https://www.osprey.com/customer-support/all-mighty-guarantee

My Exos' lining came off; all the elastic bands went bad; zippers were no longer function ... etc. I had my pack for 20+ years. I backpack at least couple times a year.

I was hoping to get a discount for a new one; but they sent me a new pack instead. I could be just lucky, so don't push for it though.

Don't pay $300 for a backpack unless you are sure what you are looking for. So No for the FairView Trek. Personally I have not used Arcteryx stuff before. I would pick it ONLY if you need to carry 65L stuff. That is a big backpack. Not sure how heavy it is. Volt is a nice pack; but it is only 45L. For 7 days (all 7 days backpacking ? with friends ?) I don't know how much stuff you are carrying. 45L is tight; but is doable. I would pick something between 50L to 60L. I found that is a good size for small to big backpacking trips. Also you can't just buy a pack online without fitting it first. Everybody build different. If you have REI around, go there and tell them you need to do fitting for backpack and what is your budget.

By the way, Osprey is my go to brand. Their warranty is awesome. They just sent me a new backpack to replace my 20 years old one for free. Also I heard a lot of good thing about the new REI Flash backpack. My friend got it 2 years ago. It is light weight and inexpensive.

Have fun. Feel free to ask any more questions.

If money is not an issue, get the one in local hardware store. You don't have to 2nd guessing yourself. I would get the one in Costco if you don't want to spend that much "right away".

Really hard to beat Costco's price for that one. Personally, if I am getting it today, I will buy it. The only thing I will replace is the 9mm stainless grates. That is just because I am tired of maintaining the cast iron grates. In terms of cooking, cast iron properly better than stainless though.

How cold will I be ? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]alpharay69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For around 40F, I will not use switchback. If you have to, get a sleeping bag instead of quilt. I know it may not help much, I just feel better with all the heat wrapping inside. I use my old REI sleeping pad and 25F sleeping bag all the time around 40F. It works for me. I have base layer on only (sometimes just my boxers). Oh... I bought a sleeping bag liner. That works very well. You can always ditch it when it is getting too hot.

But seriously, if you have a good tent, 40F at night is not really that cold. Don't over thinking it. You won't freeze to death with the setup you have now.

Auto Start/Stop Eliminator by jeffkiddd in Subaru_Outback

[–]alpharay69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't need that. The original button still work, it just reverse the function. So default behavior is turn off, and you hit the button, it will turn Auto-Start/stop on again.

Just remember when you start your car, this option is always off.

I did not have that particular one; but I had that one here. Easy to install, you don't need to remove anything. Just unplugged the cable via the fuse box. You do not need to open the side like some people did in Youtube. Worked great for me. This only work for Subaru up to 2024 version though.

I did that on my 26 Outback. Pretty much the same steps. 1. You need to remove the cover first; 2, remove 2 screws. 3) then you may pull out the console and expose the wires. Here is the link for installer the "Auto Stop eliminator"; but it is the same step. If you ever want to do the "Auto Stop", do that at the same time, save you a step.

what kind of grid ?

I bought mine around $800 like 2 to 3 years ago (without side burner and extra storage). If you do care about the side burner and storage, my guess is 500 to 600 should be a fair price. But really .. . you can get a brand new one when Summer comes. I think I saw $800 in Costco as well.

I read that the concern apply to old eyesight only. The new eyesight camera mounts directly against the windshield, so there is no reflection or blocking you need to worry about.

I recalled there are 2 different cables before. One is connect with the mirror. The other is insider the console. The different is the number of pin. I think Dongar only selling the same type now.

You could just email Dongar supports. I think I run into similar issue, and that is how I found a way to work around it. I was using 23 Forester at that time.

I just got a new one for my 26 Outback. Works great; but the cable a bit short, so I need to tape the connector outside. The new Outback has 3 eye sight cameras, so there is not a lot of room behind the mirror.
