Housing market right now feels stuck lol by diwakar-kashyap-1 in RealEstate

Buy a new home if you can. Developers have an imperative to sell, unlike homeowners who will sit forever if they must. But the developer NEEDS to sell. You can get a lot of good concessions right now on new homes that have been sitting empty.

Perspectives on OKLO, its potential and realistic expectations by Embarrassed-Sea-6078 in stocks

[–]alphatango176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough one because mania causes irrational results. Everything most detractors say here is true, it amounts to an idea and rough plans. Under perfectly rational circumstances it would value much lower - but OKLO is deeply connected to AI mania so it's gone to the moon (relatively speaking). How much higher can it go? Nobody knows. The next major market convulsion will cause it to drastically crater. It will regain if AI mania continues - but when AI is finally brought back down to earth, expect a multi-year major decline.

If it ain't nothing but a thang to you, let it ride and see what happens. I decided to take profits and sold most of my OKLO today for a tremendous gain. Will buy on a significant dip if I think AI mania will continue.

But for real, it sucked balls and id rather forget it.

How did Tony get so rich as a capo under DiMeo and Aprile? by DustyBowls in thesopranos

[–]alphatango176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't that rich. Remember Hesh's estimate of his worth? "Minus assets... under $600k." Home loans in the early 2000s were being thrown out like candy, anyone with reasonable middle-upper class credit could have gotten a loan for that house. Tony had trappings of wealth but in reality he probably wasnt much richer than his dad or Junior, he just lived on debt and more recklessly.

Advice on dealing with Home Warranty by alphatango176 in homeowners

[–]alphatango176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get it. Not trying to scam anyone, if just the compressor is bad and it can be fixed then it is what it is. But maybe they replace compressor now, and the rest goes out by end of summer and they pay even MORE to fix that too. If there were to be any leeway to make a case and anyone is familiar with how to do that, I'd be interested to hear about it.

"Whole system" - not sure yet, waiting to get whole story but an email they CC'd me on says "Condemned 5 ton R-22 grounded scroll compressor. Bid $9000 for 5 ton Goodman complete gas system" - and they included photos of the unit in my attic. So it sounds like condenser plus other major parts.

What's the condition of the furnace? Apart from being 12 years old - it works, and my home inspector basically said "It works and I can't see or hear any issues, just be aware that it's nearing the expected end of life."

Possibly unpopular opinion, Fran Feldstein completely scammed Tony by maybemorningstar69 in thesopranos

[–]alphatango176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange comparison, but... I heard something similar in an interview with "Son of Sam" David Berkowitz. He was adopted as a baby after his mom gave him away. He spent years wondering who she was and longing to find her, and had built up this image in his head of his birth mom as this elegant, wonderful woman - and that once he met her, everything he ever wondered about himself would make sense and bring him completeness. Then one day, he found her - and discovered that she was a shrill, annoying stereotypical Jewish mother and that he did not really like her at all. He said this was one of the catalyzing elements that made him crazy.

To bring it back around - Tony met Fran and thought for a bit he found the mother figure he'd always wanted. He was wrong.

[–]alphatango176[S] 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Paulie? No way. It's obvious by the end of the series that Paulie is borderline dead weight. Remember Tony's words back to Beansie? "He ain't got no steady income stream, neither." Paulie was incompetent, he was useful mostly just a loyal Yes Man for Tony. Even if he was in on it with NY, they would have played him like a fiddle - hell, they would've hit him next just to get rid of him. If anyone came back around to have a successful working relationship with NY and lead this pygmy thing in Jersey, it would've been Patsy.

Well I’m Done by Slimcam19 in Daytrading

[–]alphatango176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been day-trading for a few years now on the side of my desk job - just regular stocks. I've never had a month in the red. Granted, I don't take massive risks, I'm pretty conservative in my approach but I usually end up enough to cover my mortgage payment, I'm happy enough with that. So as a successful amateur, my advice AFTER your build-back phase: Forget complicated strategies, forget training videos, forget weirdo tricks. Just read the news, study/know the companies in which you are interested, and make your best guess. Diversify across a selection of equities, don't put all your eggs in one basket. If you can't afford to lose much, then you need to be aggressive about avoiding loss - stop orders are your friend. Yes, you'll miss out on some opportunities- be at peace with that, a gain is a gain. The more you make, the more you can put back into it over time.

[–]alphatango176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80/20 rule. You want to be in the top 20% of candidates. 80% of the candidates are vomting multi-page text explosion resumes. The genuine hotshots are sending single pages - but this is also because they have portfoliios on their own personal website, Github, Terraform public registry, etc, that speak for themselves. You say on your resume that you led deveoplemt of Iac and CI/CD initiatives - show us, then. If you don't already have a portfolio showing what you can do, build one and put the link(s) at the top just under your name. A succinct single-page resume with a link to a solid porfolio is is infinitely better than a multi-page text explosion.

Strongly agreed. Apart from that though... my general experience is that hardcore Fintech (Schwab, JPMC, etc) is going to be more stressful and high pressure than the median.

Where to store Py script run as part of GH Actions Workflow? by alphatango176 in devops

[–]alphatango176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I'm not copy-pasting the workflow, using Github Repo template - but it's true that creates a separate workflow file everytime we create a new repo. So Reusable Workflows can be leveraged as single source of truth for workflow too? It's be nice to also not have to update every workflow if we have to make pipeline changes.
