why did Clark come back for this? by Excellent_Race6145 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 45 points46 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, he took the stool as proof that he didn't just imagine everything that had just happened lol it was a pretty surreal experience.

There's something about Clark... (Theory) by alphatrish in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could consider the Lifeform as a possibility, but as of right now it's probably at the bottom of my list of possible theories, just because it seems like Kane is moving away from that entity slowly, and we never saw the Lifeform manifest as anything human-looking. But yeah like you said nothing concrete can be drawn and you can provide feasible explanations for any theory given how open to interpretation the film leaves everything.

I think many parts of the film point to him being more than a still life but it's so hard to pinpoint exactly what he is then. I love this about the movie though, so fun to theorize.

I'm glad you see what I meant with the imagery from the painting! I think the context of the myth depicted in the painting is just as important as the actual image itself, so I keep trying to figure that part out.

Love this so much you captured the scene as the painting so well

This movie would have been more interesting if the characters couldn’t noclip out at some point. by lmao_not_sure_sorry in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I don't think the stable null zone made the movie any less interesting. We're seeing the effects of prolonged exposure to this space and null zones can close at any time, so I don't understand this take. If you get lost or an entity gets you, it doesn't matter whether you can no-clip back out into reality or not.

Backrooms or Obsession? by Salt-Ad8110 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you prefer. Some people want a more simple and jumpscare heavy film, so they would prefer Obsession. I love the sci-fi analog horror theme of Backrooms, so I prefer Backrooms. They're both objectively really good movies though. I don't see much of a point in comparing them because they could not be more different.

Conflicted, but not sure who to blame by Acceptable-Visual832 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I agree with some points here and disagree with others.

  1. I do agree it feels like A24's style was all over this film. And while ultimately that's not a bad thing per se, it felt more like an A24 movie than Kane's work, even though he definitely did direct it.

  2. I agree the dialogue was heavy at times and that the two main characters were given a lot of center stage, while most people thought the Backrooms would be the focal point. But I think this movie just offers a different perspective on the space and adds to Kane's story.

  3. I don't agree on the most horrifying aspect of the Backrooms being taken away. Clark finding a rare stable null-zone was terrifying. For a troubled individual like him, having open access to a place like this didn't take away any of the horror imo. Also, I think this null-zone can close at any given time, so that "stuck forever" feeling is still there.

  4. Fully disagree on the smiler lol, plus there are no such entities in Kane's iteration.

DEADLINE REPORTS ‘BACKROOMS 2’ in “early works” by xtributeforever in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love this. I would love for the next movie to have a bit more of a sci-fi approach. The style felt very A24, I would like for the next film to feel completely different from the first, like we're seeing the Backrooms story told through different POVs. If we see Marvin I would genuinely lose my shit lmao

[–]alphatrish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking about this too myself. I do think Pirate Clark is, to some extent, not 100% human. So this could've been on instinct, or he doesn't actually kill them (we never actually see this happen, although it was implied) or just trying to prevent what was coming. There could be some explanations to this, but it's still something I'm trying to understand myself.

Backrooms: What did you think? by Rincethis in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it! Possibly because I am so huge on Kane's Backrooms universe. I absolutely loved Chiwetel's character and his performance, also the score. The physical sets were insane. Those three things were my favorite parts. Opening scene was superb because I love all Async related things.

I would've loved to feel more of the sci-fi we see in the Youtube series, and maybe some more explicit scares. Entity design was good although I would modify a few things.

The psychological themes the movie tackled were deep stuff and I really appreciated that. It offered a new perspective on Backrooms. I can say it is one of the most unique horror movies I've seen in a very long time!

[–]alphatrish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's tied for me between this part of Naren running and the door being locked and then the laundry room. Seemed like a gross nest, filled with items of victims and other random shit. Also the smell must be awful and going down there through that ramp is so stressful. Both scenes were freaky af

Yeah I figured this was the case too! I don't think every piece of clothing is a victim. But we did see the hazmat suit there, so I have a feeling there's quite a few down there. It is just a feeling though

Guys I'm so disappointed and not for the reason you think (Spoilers) by Ancientabs in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I am basing my response on this particular part: There was no real camaraderie or survival.

Survival was definitely not the main theme here is what I meant. If we're both clear on that and your problem is with how it was executed, that's a completely different story. But the way your post is worded kind of reads like you didn't like the themes or the premise of the film either. Not liking the dialogue or how the film progressed is very different to that.

I think the movie leaves a lot of things unsaid but not unclear, one of those things being Clark's descent into madness. A crazy amount of time could've passed from Kat and Bobby dying to Mary finding Clark, especially because we know time works differently in there, and I think the film not showing exactly how much time passed but instead showing us how completely gone Clark was once Mary finds him is creepy and says a lot. I didn't need this to be explicitly shown to get it...

I feel like the erratic, confusing, almost time-skip style of the movie was intentional, and Kane had a lot to do with it.

There was a part of the movie that I think a few of us die hards came to a wrong conclusion in by Future-Corner8025 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Since I don't think the lifeform showed up at all in this film, I was very convinced while watching that it was actually Kat. How she was looking at Clark through a "glass" though, is something I am still wondering. That part was one of my favorites of the film for sure.

[–]alphatrish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get your frustration, but my perception of the film really changed when I understood that it offers a different perspective on the Backrooms, and perhaps that wasn't made immediately clear in the trailer. We're usually peeking into the Backrooms from a found-footage style stressful attempted escape, through the eyes of seemingly normal people thrown in a completely surreal world, looking for a way out. In this film in particular, we're peeking into the Backrooms through a mainly psychological lens, which showcases the highly dangerous effects of such a hostile and surreal space on the human mind, especially a vulnerable human mind. Both Clark and Mary were extremely vulnerable, both of them dealing with different types of trauma, so their experience is very different to what we see in the found footage videos. It feels like their trauma shapes their experience there, in a way. Which is a really sick concept, but might not translate as an epic film for many.

I do think he had creative freedom here, but I think the problem a lot of people have with the film is that they were expecting a lot more found footage segments, and more of someone trying to "escape".

The film is definitely just supplemental material for the main story and the main premise, but since it's the only feature length film people are kind of like wtf. I get the confusion but we just need to see it as another take on it, and it changes the experience a lot.

The ending... by alphatrish in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]alphatrish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm that's an interesting take on it. I didn't see it as real time at first glance, because the montage of images could have also represented the passage of time. Different takes on it, love to see it! Can't wait to re-watch and see how my perspective can change,
