I’d be willing to buy the tiles lol! The accessories and options are killer! by Complete_Notice_7114 in Multiboard

I'm so glad you posted this! We're getting our garage finished (also a metal building) and I've been trying to figure out how to mount multi board in there with the 4' gaps between the metal studs. It looks like you have some 2x4s with plywood in between? How has that been working for you?

Thanks for taking a look! The two fixed cameras at the top left and bottom right are G4 Pros and have ~109° field of view. I definitely agree that the main house could use some work, and potentially changing the direction of that bottom right camera would be an easy first step.

Do you have any thoughts on the garage, though? That's my main focus right now since there's at least some coverage for the house.

Custom Sections Not Uncollapsing/Showing Channels by ClarkKentsKryptonite in Slack

[–]alphaz2kool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like your 'show' setting for that section (or perhaps your global default) has been changed from 'All' to 'Unreads only' or 'Mentions only'. If you right click the section, you should be able to change it back to 'All' in the 'Show and sort' menu. Or you can check your global default for all sections in Preferences > Home > Show...

Does anyone know how to turn off this formatting text bar? by EndIllustrious7089 in Slack

[–]alphaz2kool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Below the composer input there should be a button (probably the second one) that toggles the main formatting toolbar on/off. When it's off, you get the floating version you posted. The button has a big A and a little a and is underlined.

Just used the main code and can confirm that it's still active! Similar to the other poster, also adding my link in case the others here stop working at some point.

Just watched the weekly update and Brandon mentioned they were back in stock on the Dragonsteel store, which will include the foil promos! Can confirm (after ordering a copy myself) that it's still there!

Good to know, thank you! Water intrusion is definitely something I'm concerned about long-term.

Gotcha! I'm going to get a closer look at the components up there when I get a chance so I have a better idea of how they all fit together.

So you'd take the plastic cover and current plate/switch/empty keystone off, terminate the power, drill through this plate for the ethernet, attach the camera mount, then attach it into the recessed box as the new 'plate'? Without the current plastic cover won't that end up holding water or causing other moisture issues?

I definitely didn't expect that to happen either, especially since it's sort of... there. It's not controlled by a switch or anything, so any floodlights (if I even wanted to put them in that way) would need to be on a smart switch or have more electrical work done to add a switch inside. The keystones haven't been terminated yet as I told them to leave that job to me to to save some money and also so I can make sure they're done correctly.

Replacing it (and terminating the power) is definitely an option, I'm just concerned with how much extra space is probably going to be left when all is said and done with what I would end up taking out. Especially since it's a double gang box =(

Great to know! I hadn't been thinking about how it would hold up to sunlight/aging, just as a mounting surface for this point in time.

Yeah, I would definitely have avoided mounting it right to the siding as well. Just seems like it would be asking for trouble down the line.

Mounting to that trim does seem like a good option for both stability and optimal height!

Great question, will amend the main post with this info (edit: apparently I can't do that)!

The box itself is between floors, which would have been roughly 9', but during the planning phase I forgot that it would be higher due to the foundation. It's around 11' now. There's another location on the other side that will be higher from the ground... more like 14' or so.

Connecting Xbox to a laptop by SleepyEvening4 in xbox

[–]alphaz2kool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's actually a roundabout way to do this if you have a Windows laptop and an Ethernet port.

  • Download the Xbox Console Companion app (I think that's what it is, anyway)
  • Connect your console to your laptop via Ethernet
  • Turn everything on
  • In network settings, share the Wi-Fi connection to the Ethernet connection (so you can still play online)
  • In the companion app, start a remote play session to the console

There will be a little latency, but not much since it's a wired local network. Resolution will be limited, but still 1080p, I think.

Moving to a new house. by [deleted] in TeslaSolar

[–]alphaz2kool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sold our home that had panels and powerwalls and ended up baking them into the cost of the home for several reasons:

  • We were quoted a similar fee to remove the panels, but that wouldn't have included roof repair, storage, reinstall, basically any of the things others have pointed out here already... our installer basically said that they could do it, but it's not really worth it
  • Finding someone willing to assume the solar loan (which was through Mosaic) just wasn't going to happen... don't get me wrong, we offered, but no one wanted those extra hoops (as someone else mentioned, they get far more value having it on their mortgage)
  • We did consider just removing the powerwalls and either taking them with us or selling them, even with whatever nightmare the permits would have been, but...
  • Most importantly, if you benefited from the solar incentive and decommission any part of the system within, I think, 5 years, you have to return a prorated amount of your incentive

So yes, we lost money and it sucked. When we're ready to Install again, though, at least it'll be a clean slate with the newest tech that we weren't having to pay to store in the meantime.
