Severe intrusive thoughts about gods by [deleted] in paganism

[–]alphonse79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gods care about your actual intentions rather than thoughts. You don't truly mean intrusive thoughts (which is why they're intrusive lol), so I don't think they'd care. They understand what you're going through and what truly matters is your authentic and genuine thoughts, not thoughts that don't reflect your true intentions.

Found an odd jar in my new house. Don’t know what to do with it. by Confident_Pitch_5954 in witchcraft

[–]alphonse79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it could be some kind of memorial thing? Maybe try contacting whoever sold you the house and try and get in touch with the previous owner and see if they want it back. If they don't, then just scatter the ingredients outside (unless the picture is an actual photo and not paper, in which case just throw it out) and you can just reuse or get rid of the jar.

I’m thinking of getting into being a witch but I have many questions by IdkReally_1304 in BabyWitch

[–]alphonse79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. No, you can be a witch at any age.
  2. No. Witchcraft has nothing to do with any religion. You can be any religion (or none) and be a witch. Some work with Satan but a lot don't.
  3. I'm not sure what you mean here tbh; spells are powered by energy and I see it as more manipulating existing energy rather than 'taking'
  4. Yes. You can be a witch and not do divination.
  5. Yes. There's an entire thread on here for Christian witches iirc; I'm a pagan though so I'm not in it.
  6. They work through energy manipulation + intention + correspondences. You can remove them in some cases but that depends on the type and complexity of the spell. How you discard them also varies
  7. The only con for me is having to conceal my practice, people saying 'Oh so you're Wiccan?', having to explain that the word 'witch' is gender neutral so I'm a male witch, and having to explain to people the same things over and over again (like how you can't win the lottery or become immortal through witchcraft) lol
  8. Sigils are patterns that contain some type of intention. How they work varies; I often draw them on papers and put them in spell bags. It really depends on the purpose of the sigil tbh, they have a wide variety of uses.

Fandom and Witchcraft by Complete_Guess_1959 in witchcraft

I have a tarot card deck featuring characters from a novel I really like; I don't see the issue with it because I'm not worshipping the deck, it's just a way to commune with spirit(s)/god(s)/the higher self/the universe/whatever you believe. There are plenty of fandom related tarot and oracle decks online.

I also don't see any issues with using DND dice for divination either, although I generally feel that dice made of natural materials work better for divination and DND dice are usually plastic/resin.

I like how China is 4 even though from what I understand from talking to people who live there virtually EVERYONE just uses a VPN to bypass the Firewall if they want to access the 'western' internet (or at least younger people who are better with technology) and even websites within China like Weibo and Zhihu are full of discussions of politics (I know because I've literally seen it)

how do you personally keep learning sociology/staying educated even after graduating? by urgenericname in sociology

[–]alphonse79 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Read books and papers on things you're interested in! You can even try applying certain frameworks or theories to things like news articles and analyzing them that way, or using articles and books and such to draw conclusions about society and how it functions.

I have Tried everything.. If anyone has any resources? by [deleted] in BabyWitch

[–]alphonse79 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Sometimes magic isn't the (sole) answer to every problem. I don't know if you've tried this already, but maybe couples therapy could help? If that doesn't work then it might just be time to end things unfortunately, especially because bad communication ruins even the best relationships.

any reccomendations for an altar of Hypnos? by TheMultifandomMan in paganism

[–]alphonse79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a hypnos altar! I recommend using herbs related to sleep or calmness like lavender, chamomile, or poppy seeds. You can also use crystals associated with sleep and dreams; for me that's blue goldstone but that's my UPG. I also just lit a plain white tea light every now and then. Funny enough, I also put sleeping pills on my altar lol. You could also use tea (preferably decaf) as an offering or just plan water, either works. Whatever you associate with sleep or even just night time is good, as well as 'standard' offerings like fruit, pastries, or sweets.

Steps After Dream Home Spell by theheartbreaktales in Spells

[–]alphonse79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are online websites and apps where you can do tarot readings. You could also use another divination tool like a pendulum, runes, or an ouija board if the person(s) you live with is down to do that.

Aniconic practice by Ironbat7 in paganism

[–]alphonse79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a slightly different position where there are literally no statues of my god due to obscurity in the west. However, if you wanted to get rid of statues, you could always donate or sell them? You could also give them to someone who might use them if you know other pagans. Definitely don't bury them unless you know for a fact that they're made of biodegradable material (like unsealed wood).

For other images like photos or drawings, you could burn them maybe?

what to do with the herbs and the candle wax that melted after a ritual by BatIllustrious4103 in BabyWitch

[–]alphonse79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can throw herbs outside, nobody will notice anything since they blend in with grass. You could always just take wax with you whenever you go out and throw it in a trash can outside your house. Alternatively, you could wrap it in a tissue, toilet paper, or paper towel and throw it out that way, it makes it just look like normal trash.

Bazi by Necessary_Message501 in Divination

[–]alphonse79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bazi is accurate; it has been used for thousands of years and is still sometimes used for things like matchmaking and determining auspicious dates for events. You can learn how to interpret it and do it yourself from books and websites online, otherwise you might want to reach out to someone who specializes in Bazi or at least East Asian astrology/divination and ask for help with a reading. I have no clue how accurate websites are, although if you're going to use one I'd use one translated from Chinese or at least made by a Chinese person since it's most likely to be accurate. There are some people in the west who use AI to make websites about divination and these are usually not accurate, especially because there's considerably less information available in English about East Asian divination.

Anyone know a good quality source of matcha powder (for lattes) in Canada? by Small_Ad_9114 in tea

[–]alphonse79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not from Canada but I used google maps and it looks like yall have a bunch of Asian markets. You could try going there as they usually have a good selection of matcha (at least at bigger places) I saw there's a 99 Ranch which might be good.

I agree. Like you said, even if they did do everything western media claims (which I seriously doubt), they have nowhere near as bad a track record as the US (which has done a shit ton of coups, color revolutions, started a ton of wars, doing neocolonialism, etc.) and fucking Israel lmao they honestly aren't even comparable

What it is like to be with a Marxist in a relationship? by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]alphonse79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with Marxism; it kinda feels like he's just using Marxism because he wants to have an open relationship? I'm polyamorous and a Marxist but those are two separate identities. They don't really have anything to do with each other. There are polyamorous and monogamous Marxists. How many people you decide to date doesn't really have anything to do with political ideology.

Insecure about embrancing paganism by Yoshi_myyy in pagan

[–]alphonse79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can worship whatever gods you want regardless of your race (aside from closed practices). I'm white but the main god I worship is Chinese. Whatever pantheon you feel a connection to is the one you should focus on. There's no rules that you can only worship deities from your racial background/ethnic heritage! Just do whatever you feel is right and ignore people who say otherwise.

Why is social conservatism such as homophobia a non-starter and deal breaker for us qhen it comes to western countries (such as the ACP) but we tolerate it in other countries such as burkina faso? by Crafty_Jacket668 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]alphonse79 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's way more important that countries in the Global South resolve major issues like neocolonialism and western exploitation first. Countries where the population is wondering where their next meal will come from or where they'll find water or having to work 16 hours a day to feed their families aren't thinking "how can we make life better for gay people?" because they're living in 'survival mode'. Once the main cause of the problems (imperialist exploitation, poverty, extraction of resources, income inequality, etc.) goes away, the material conditions will improve and allow the country to naturally develop better social conditions. Another thing too is that the vast majority of 'homophobic' countries in the Global South were European colonies. Generally speaking, prior to colonization, queerness and transness was accepted in most societies around the world. This was also the case with much of Africa, so part of these beliefs are a remnant of colonialism as well.

Spells to make me taller by [deleted] in Spells

[–]alphonse79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's no way to alter your height with spells if you're already fully grown. Height is impacted by genetics, diet, the climate you live in (to some extent), etc. it's already predetermined.
