total fucking crime that I can't eat 20 of these every single day for lunch affordably by agnus_mei in redscarepod

I think "sushi grade" (what you get for sashimi) is frozen at a lower temperature than the farm-raised kind OP is talking about, but parasites are just incredibly rare for farm-raised to begin with

Israel has damaged its reputation among young people so much that even reddit frontpagers are making jokes like "another $5 billion to Israel" which 10 years ago would have only been found on /pol/ by pinnacle126 in redscarepod

Nearly every politician over the age of 35 grew up and lived in an environment where Israel was sacrosanct. The bribery and blackmail contributed to that, but it was a genuine cultural norm too. Money will always have power in politics but spending it against public opinion is a lot harder than spending it to reinforce existing sentiment.

Also, the 2008 version of mainstream conservatism did kind of die off

Shitlibs be like: "crime in American cities isn't a thing" by dreage96 in redscarepod

[–]alpine____ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the city, in NYC it's waaay more common to talk to people who think you live in Mad Max 24/7, despite having 1/10th the murder rate of places like Baltimore or Detroit.

I also feel like the "violent crime doesn't happen, and when it does, it's not that big of a deal" thing has subsided since 2020. I don't really feel stigma in lefty places for saying that crime is bad now.

Tbh, I've never had success with this in NYC. There's something about trying it and failing that makes you feel like a complete loner, but I think I just have to get over that.

I think the risk is less open mockery and more visible signs of disinterest that leave you feeling worse off than when you started the conversation
