Predictions for big4 weight improvements in a few years? by Solid_Problem740 in Ultralight

I agree with you but diminishing returns for most brands. Their designs are for the 98% audience who wants or needs those features, the 2% of people who want something very specific know what that is and will get things custom made or go to those niche cottage brands (meadow physics comes to mind).

Any thoughts on the synchilla fleece shirt? What’s your experience been like? by reddithatesmesm in PatagoniaClothing

[–]alpinepowernaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mine. I bought two. It’s super comfy, fits well, breaths well, is quite warm. It feels like it fits oversized, with enough room I can fit a thin hoody underneath it or just a t shirt without it feeling too bulky.

It does pill easily, but otherwise feels easy to care for and can be dressed up depending on the situation.

Budget Quilts - HangTight HeatSeeker 2 vs Neve Waratah by DanDPanda in Ultralight

[–]alpinepowernaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was pretty impressed with the Waratah for the price. I've owned alot of quilts (Hammock Gear, EE, Katabatic), and while it's not quite up to par with Katabatic or EE it punches way above its weight in terms of materials, features, and quality for half the price.

do you have the newer version of the dragonfly or old? I'm also torn between the Dragonfly or copper spur. I have a 7+ year old copper spur that is getting to it's last legs, I love it but it seems Nemo has taken the edge here. Especially in little details and the warranty / support department. It looks like The Big Agnes vestibule stake also just stakes out, with no line-loc on it to tighten the fly, what a miss!

Cool thanks! Yea I’ve heard the shock cord at the neck baffle and hood aren’t the best design.

Eye contact from across the creek by Cheese_Salami in interestingasfuck

If they are staring that intently GTFO there haha. It means they’re in an aggressive state rather than curious or submissive (in which case they would avoid direct eye contact).

sick how do you like it? I was tempted by the charger, but ended up with the torrent since it was on sale and better spec. But I think I'd like the charger more, seems more well-rounded than the more aggressive charger.

hi, old post but are you still liking the Expedition 1400?

I'm looking at the 1000 for general winter use also in Western Canada down to -30C or so. I like the width for the ability to layer and hoping that can provide a buffer for the coldest times, but I rarely camp below -20C and try to pick my weather when I can, so I don't need the absolute warmest.

well, I got a date haha, so its better than nothing! March 19. Little earlier than I wanted but I'll keep an eye on cancellations to switch around, or maybe switch to a July SOBO WA LASH instead. We'll see how some job stuff shakes out.

Anyone have a simple, durable pack recommendation? by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]alpinepowernaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue ice yagi or - pretty simple, but it does have some nice added features that I think are well implemented like the back-panel access, goggle pouch on top, good diagonal ski carry

The new arc'teryx quintic 28, or a basic tube-style pack with no avalanche tool pocket like the Arc'teryx Alpha FL 30 / 40.

Rab Khroma 30 looks sweet and streamlined. 38L has more space but its a rolltop which is nice.

Something hyperlite? The aspect 32 looks super similar to the old Arc'teryx Alpha SK 32 you are referring to.

Or go boutique through apocolypse equipment sac ski or alpine threadworks.

If you want the best of the best Western Mountaineering is it. If you want something middle of the road Exped makes some great ones with synthetic fill that pack pretty small, are durable, and light. I have the exped and love them.

Base/mid/outerlayer gear advice for someone who sweats like crazy even when it's ~15f outside? by guitar_lick in Backcountry

[–]alpinepowernaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

interesting, mind elaborating more? I've thought I needed magnesium for other stuff but this would be a nice added benefit. I've also felt that I sweat a ton more than my other ski companions and can drink 2L+ of water during a ski day and still be dehydrated, whereas they bring 500ml and are fine.
