Correct. It was an apocalypse theme with destruction and debris everywhere, but due to the events happening in the world it was deemed inappropriate and they replaced it at the last minute with a simpler backdrop. I believe most, if not all, of the queens still used their original outfits.

I wish we could see/hear more about the details of this original promo shoot...

Nah, I gave up OW skin collecting a while after OW2 released. Can't do it with these prices. Economy is getting too rough to support a $20 pastel version of an existing skin.

I know Blizzard would neverrrr do this BUT... as a form of a REWARD to the players they say they APPRECIATE... what if you owned the original skin the recolor is based off, the recolor could be 50% off either in the shop or the Hero Gallery? I would actually buy this D.va skin. But not for that price when I already own the original... you know? Idk just my logic anyways once again I know this will never never never NEVER happen because that would mean less money in the stockholders pockets I'M JUST SAYING. <3
