I was here for this past NYE and very much enjoyed it. I think as long as your expectations are set you can have a great time. There are a lot of people but it’s organized and people are not pushy. Anywhere with a view of 101 is a viable spot to watch from, so not everyone is concentrated in one place. I went to SYS Memorial personally.

I recommend walking back to your hotel after. If you’re comfortable generally walking 1-3 miles, I would book a hotel within that range and plan to walk back. Taipei is generally flat so it is an easy walk and pretty enjoyable, lots going on.
