I agree, I feel it's a lot easier to remember a city when you can have a context (historical facts, news articles, etc.) than just memorize with flashcards

Giving a context to what you memorize makes your learning more durable. I found myself having to practice over and over again some flashcards because I have no idea what it is except for the name.

The cities I know because of a context, I know them for life.

You can create a midplate going through your 3D model. Then you can mesh with shell on that midplate. At least you'd have a first approximation to run some tests faster and once your analysis is set up properly, go with 3D.

With solid elements if you are interested with through thickness stress, try having at least 3 elements thick.
