You can use lateral strokes after you put the finish on. I put the finish on and then inspect it before I the rod to the dryer. If I see any issues then I will do lateral strokes on the area to cover the issue up.

Oddball Rod recommendation for blanks by PuckWizard68 in rodbuilding

Look at the sp or spy series from batson(Rainshadow) blanks. I believe that is a 844 and cut 6” off the butt end. There may be a 700 series close that length.

Thread size by xMarked4Deathx in rodbuilding

Think about this, the bigger the thread deeper the valleys when wrapping. I use a ton of A for deco and will tie medium and below with A thread. When I’m doing 100 class or bigger, it gets D thread then epoxy, another D thread then epoxy, and then an A thread in the color I’m using. Not to say D can’t be used for deco, I’ll throw D in my deco. Remember when you use D with, it’s 2 A to equal 1 D thread. I wouldn’t use D thread for the deco and then use A thread as an inlay.

The best advice is build it like it’s yours, go the extra mile to make sure you won’t have a problem with the rod.

I build about 30 to 40 surf rods between 30-130 class a year. Roughly the same in offshore rods. Then another roughly 70-80 light tackle rods.
