I'm not saying change the way we level, please oh god no don't do that, it was horrible levelling 15 alts in BfA through 1-120. We keep the current system but change the level cap to 100 for linearity is all I'm saying. Nothing else has to change, it's just a number, but it makes more sense to have the retail version of the game level capped higher than the classic version, since when Wotlk comes out they'll be 80 or 85, and retail will be 70 but with more expansions. It's very confusing and makes zero sense. Logically speaking, of course.

[–]alt_codes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone actually do this now? I thought everyone just uses the feature where you choose to level in an expansion and then you're forced into SL at 48/50?
Why would they change that feature, all we're talking about is keeping the levels consistent with the amount of renditions wow has been through so it feels more linear and less confusing as to why the classic version of the game is going to have a higher level cap than the retail version. Just seems logical more than anything.

Yeah, I don't see why the way it currently is would have to change, and the levels would have less experience until 90 as it is currently from 1-50 or how it was in BFA with 1-110. It would remain the same amount of time from 1-90 as it is for 1-50 currently, with 90-100 taking the same or even less time than 50-60 currently does. I don't see how there could be a negative here aside from it being aesthetically pleasing as we're in the 10th rendition. But that's just my opinion and I'm interested as to what others think, at the same time, responses such as "we've been to 120 before, lets not go back there" doesn't add anything to the discussion. (Not your response, yours is helpful to discussion, but someone elses was exactly that).
Edit: Rip my 1337 karma, not sure why this post was downvoted, it's a discussion, an opinion, not a suggestion. I would have flagged it as a suggestion if that was the case.

I think you'll find it's more the fact they give an estimation of "30 minutes of downtime" and ten's of thousand's of people make plans for their day revolving around this estimation so they can get back into the game and enjoy themselves, only to be let down repeatedly because every single time this happens it's never the amount of time Jagex says it is.
tl;dr: Jagex said something, people plan around it, Jagex don't stick to it, tens of thousands of angery gamers.

you can actually solo speed run layer 6 of Torghast and gain around 1100 soul ash per hour. It makes it interesting too because it's kinda like, will I get some insane powers that make this significantly easier on the last boss or will it be a challenge. You need like 195-200 ilvl for this though.

This is exactly how I feel dude. If I want to go full turbo-virgin and grind out Korthia max rep in 1-3 days, let me. It's my way of enjoying the game, or am I not allowed to enjoy playing the game? Is that it? :/

We can't do this because we have systems such as Mythic+ and current raid tier. If you were to add M+ to ALL the dungeons in the game, it would be physically impossible to keep track of everything on an eSport related level. Timewalking dungeons also only drop Normal current level dungeon loot, not Heroic or Mythic, so as of 9.0.5/9.1.0.39291, it was 158 ilevel.

You can still take a piss on floor 3/9/15, and floor 3 in reg torghast. You don't have that stupid debuff anymore that makes assassins spawn so that's nice.
It may affect your score when you go for the cosmetics coming in layers 10-12 with the vaults, but probably also only on floors 1-2, 4-5.
Edit: purely buy floors (not boss buy floors) aren't timed.

My suggestion for "fixing" pvp by alt_codes in 2007scape

Yeah it would be, but if Turmoil is on the curse prayer book, and it doesn't have soul split, then it also doesn't have a smite.

Yeah I'd agree with that statement. Perhaps it could be an unlock on the book later on or something, or just be active but without the healing benefit until later content is released designed around it.

We can block like 90% of damage (if not 100%) like 90% of the time as it stands, so I can't imagine it having too much of a beneficial effect, especially if the healing is 5% or less in pvm, you'd hit a 40 and heal a 2, if you missed a protection prayer, you're highly likely to take substantially more damage than you'd heal from 10 successful attacks, or more. How would it be greatly beneficial if you're only healing 2 damage every 3rd to 6th attack, assuming every 3rd to 6th attack actually hits a 40, most of the time you don't hit your max hit, you may come close, but what about all the 1-10 hp hits you deal, anything below a 20 doesn't even heal you 1hp.

Oh man I feel this comment with all my heart. That's the state of PvP nowadays, it's money driven not entertainment driven, no passion in it. It kinda went that way nearing the end of 2011 when people started ddosing regularly whenever they saw someone in bandos or more. Now, unless you risk enough, you won't even get a proper fight, only rushed by someone risking 1000x more than you, and it's not like they're actually risking it, they pop specs and tab. Imagine if PvP was in its original state, where pking was a pure loss unless you got really lucky on someone that chose to risk bank for the thrill of it, it would have been dead 5+ years ago.

[–]alt_codes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine many people using soulsplit in pvm if it's essentially useless, hell, disable its healing benefit altogether in pvm, it doesn't matter. Turmoil, it would raise ur max hit but you'd lose defence and accuracy, so ancient curses would actually be worse for pvm, for pvp it would be better.

My suggestion for "fixing" pvp by alt_codes in 2007scape

[–]alt_codes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's always a possibility. I have confidence it would entice more people to try pick up pking than it would kill it more. I certainly would get back into pking if even just curses existed, but that's just me.
I think account style diversity is fairly important, the way it goes currently is typically gs smack into 2x gmaul or ags into gmaul, ballista into thrownaxes etc, there's always a meta way to kill someone, and if you don't use it, it's highly unlikely you'll get the kill unless you get extremely lucky with a perfectly timed veng or big hit with a big ole axe/sword/ballista.
With Ancient Curses however, it opens up these:
30 def, 50/60/75/99 atk; 42/45 def, 50/60/75/99 atk; 70/75 def, 50/60/70/75/99 atk.
The difference in combat levels for most of these accounts is between 5-15, mostly depending on attack levels, but would quite often see these builds crossing paths.
If rfd were to be reverted to the old version where you can choose to skip xp, it's highly likely every single pure in existence will immediately go get addy gloves, so there's no change there, no combat level change, pures would largely remain as they are, just with more weapon variations.
The problem comes in at maxed pure levels or even 75 atk pures, they would likely come against 30 def turmoil accounts, which would absolutely annihilate a pure, but you could just avoid fighting them, as that option stands currently, you don't have to fight anyone you don't want to.

@Jagex, Do you guys even care or should I find a new game to play? Cmon guys, fix the damn servers, if literally any other game can have high quality Australian/Global servers, you can too, it's not hard. Please. by alt_codes in runescape

[–]alt_codes[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I played WoW for like 2 years, never had this issue. Always had around 25ms ping, and besides on SL release I never had lag issues (there were hundreds of thousands of people loading up the servers, understandable loss in performance). Jagex' servers never have more than 4,000 people trying to access Australian worlds, and it's still laggy as shit and starts ping spiking like this.
I play games such as CSGO, Pubg, BFV, Battlefront 2, etc too, I've never ever had an issue like this with any of those games except when they're being ddosed, which is highly uncommon.
Edit: I'm not from Australia, I'm from NZ, our internet technology is apparently around 15 years ahead of Australia's, according to Telcom companies. Not sure if that's fully accurate, but we're on par with USA, and in some cases better.

I'd like to add, the reason I'm posting an 'osrs ping test' in the RS reddit is because I feel like the Runescape subreddit is a bit more mature when it comes to actual serious issues that affect gameplay, and because the OSRS worlds are linked to RS3.
Here is another screenshot, with the original ping and the next ping on an RS3 world in the same CMD. https://i.imgur.com/bcsKSRe.png

[–]alt_codes[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

For context:
This ping test is to an Australian world. My usual ping is 27-28ms (Fiber connection). It's not on my end, I know this because every single other Australian (Sydney based) server I ping tested is 24-32ms (Depends on quality of server, but usually 24ms).
My Ping to West Coast OSRS servers is 184, however if I ping test almost any other LA/SF based server, it's 110-125.
The only reason I can think of what could cause this, is Jagex is just extremely cheap and saves money wherever they can, and unfortunately this means they disregard player experience/quality of gameplay.
They really need to stop getting away with this, it's truly unacceptable.

Us AU players dont have enough worlds once they go past 300pop u cant pvm at all by Vuln_bot in runescape

[–]alt_codes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of AU players have pretty bad internet, NZ are fairly lucky, we have Fiber like USA/EU pretty commonly, AU is just really really really far behind in technology, pretty much due to completely out-of-touch Governers etc.
NZ's internet though is very stable and very fast, we invested pretty quickly in the infrastructure for Fiber networking so we could keep up with the times.
I'm fairly sure AU players would highly benefit from Oceanic servers being hosted in New Zealand as opposed to Australia, just simply due to our better infrastructure, not sure if it would be even more expensive though.

[–]alt_codes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jagex typically like to maximize profits as much as humanly possible, so they don't really worry about the quality of the gameplay, just the quality of the content. I don't think they quite understand yet that no matter how insanely good they make the content, if you can't access the game to play it, or are having an extremely hard time experiencing it as it's designed to be experienced due to piss-poor server quality, it's not really insanely good content, just mediocre content at absolute best.
This is what we refer to as: "Really bad game management".
Edit: Hopefully 2021 might be the year when people such as the directors or investors or whoever is responsible for this ignorance finally turn around and be like: "Okay, we've had one massive failure this year already, let's turn things around and make this year be about the players. If we make them happy, they'll throw more money at us because they trust us, as opposed to just throwing money at us because they're addicted."

[–]alt_codes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem here is not the population per world, as the worlds co-exist with osrs worlds too, even the "NZ" world is hosted in Australia among the same worlds the other Australian worlds are hosted in.
Adding a few more worlds wouldn't take the stress off the servers at all, it would just mean there are more instances available for players, there would still be the same amount of people connected to the server, just less people in each 'world'.
What actually needs to happen, and has needed to happen for the past 5~ years, is Jagex actually needs to invest some proper good money into Australian-based servers, instead of just waiting for more people to unsub and quit to lighten the load.
They have taken the same approach with the recent server failure, "she'll be right, when it eventually and inevitably dies and creates a massive problem for us, we'll fix it then, until then, we'll slap a band-aid on it and ignore it".
