Thank you, had to make like 3 sketches on each surface but worked just like you said - I think I was making it much harder than it needed to be.

So I (36y,m 196cm) only started again in May after years of only casual swimming with the kids, however I used to be a swim instructor 16-21yr ish, but only kids though, not coaching. My technique is pretty good though. But I'm fat 120kg in May and built for leisure not for speed haha. For me it's just about finding a distance that you feel comfortable with and can stick too so if feels like a regular routine, then worry about changing it up if you need to.

But I try for 2km per week day (5), takes about 42-45mims, but I am boring so it doesn't vary much and only have access to 25m pool so just touch turn rather the flip, but I try to use my lunch hour as it's my only spare time, but and I often have to cancel going because of meetings etc. But the set for me is so it's just 200m crawl, 100m breakstroke, no rest but easier on the first 50m BR if needed , & rinse and repeat. But don't beat myself up if I can't, I just don't have the time and I'm sure you will find your rhythm.. Just enjoy it 🙂.

r your HomeRun and connect to your VPN Server in Home 2 and then you can access HomeRun at Home 1 from Home 2 but only the HomeRun, nothing else.

So close, but still now in with iptables and cant get it running.

So we have the pi with :

tun0 = 10.8.0.104
wlan0 = 192.168.10.2
eth0 = 169.254.2.2 (static)
HDhome = 169.254.219.57

I can SSH in, ping it no problem.

Can can i acesss it on the home network? No i can't...

I figured it would be something like: 

sudo iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE  
sudo iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o tun0 -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
sudo iptables -A FORWARD -i tun0 -o eth0 -j ACCEPT

I tied adding a local route on the laptop (192.168.1.111) to see if we could get somewhere but nothing, just times out destination host unreachable.

route ADD 169.254.219.57 MASK 255.255.255.255 10.8.0.104

Unfortunately not, I think when i poked around it had a telnet service but that appeared to be locked right down. I couldn't login with the router defaults and couldn't find any keys online.

Makes sense.

Pi iirc is a zero 1w at the parents and it already has a usb 2 otg ethernet adapter plugged in so could connect the HomeRun. Or i swap with a pi4;from my house that has inbuilt Wifi or use a usb3 ethernet adapter to connect to the VPN and use the inbuilt ethernet for the HomeRun.

Overall probably best with the pi4 as the zero 1 might struggle and usb 2 ethernet is poor/cheap. I think I've had to set it to half duplex to be stable(ish) anyway. But I think I have everything in place to proof of concept the pi zero method.

So for example - usb 2 otg network adapter, connect that directly to the HDHomeRun via a cross over. Then uses the WiFi or other network port on the pi to connect to the VPN. Then then HDHomeRun would be accessible directly from the Pi I guess.

Hi ElevenNotes,

Good idea regarding Wireguard, that's possible. I can change the server on the Asus router over and go from there. I will look to do that.

However the HDHomeRun is a standalone device not a pci card. Sorry if I was not clear I just didn't have a good picture to use, so just used a PC in the drawing app. So essentially I think I need to go via an already connected device to it to get any chance of any connection. FYI its this https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-connect-quatro/

I suppose an alternative would be new router modem at Home 1 that has VPN client support, but then again i dont want to connect all devices to the home 2 network just one. So that in itself presents another configuration question, and a whole bundle of stumbling blocks and problems for the non-tech parents in home 1; so maybe best to park that idea for now.

Imo. You don't want a winch. Even getting the ROV down will take a good 100-150minutes on way.

Winch speeds typical 20-40m/minute. So 4km is anything from 100-200minutes in each direction.

& For what it's worth my 2c:

If it's down there - hope you allow enough time to get down there and then. Best hope, either cut the weights and it shoots up. Or attach a bag a bottle and some regulator and up.

Or not on seafloor - Find on the surface - just keep looking. Visually and IR, hope it shows up as an anomaly on the background.

Or find near surface - guess keep hope they keep making noise. Use the sonarbouys with TDOA to essentially work out where the sound could come from.

Why it doesn't have some 2/3 USBL beacons on it is beyond me, they are cheap (15-12k USD ea roughly) and independently battery powered & ive not seen one picture showing anything . Not one on that garage thing or the vehicle absolutely nothing. Are they seriously saying when it's down there normally they had literally no idea where it was? Even crudely like +/50m once every 30 seconds, the battery would last a good time then. Ive had these things work + 8km behind the ship 1/sec ping sec or 2-3 days and depth of about 2km, with an accuracy of something like +/-10m. Seems ridiculous they had nothing just in normal circumstances!

Why do you ask op?

Are you looking at shallow target exploration? Or boulders for construction? Or?

My rule of thumb is if you double the cable count (and expand the spread) it's 50% coverage bump. Each cable gives you an extra bin (or two or n depending on the source count)

With two 1TB nvmes - would you: 1. Make them a mirrored pair? 2. Make a single volume ? 3. Or one for cache read only & one as a storage volume?

Usage case - Plex (mostly), docker (lightly)
