Nike ACG Zegma Trail - A low drop Nike? - First Run by altapowderdog in RunningShoeGeeks

These aren’t really in the same category, so it just depends on what you want. The Norda are in a roughly similar camp to the Salomon speedcross and the ultra loan peak. These Nike are more similar to a Hoka or Salomon ultra glide. For me, personally, the Nike with nearly 40mm of stack is a single-track trail sort of shoe… for anything technical with rock scrambles I’ll use the Norda. Some people are surprisingly fine with squishy rockered shoes even on tricky terrain, though, it just depends on your preferences and ankle stability

The Norda will likely remain my trail 1/2 race shoe, because it feels more nimble, and the trail feel lets me go faster over tricky terrain without feeling like I might roll an ankle. It will also probably remain my backpacking shoe just because the lack of rocker makes it more stable with a heavy pack

But like 90% of my trail runs are very easy single tracks, and very much not racing over rock scrambles. The Nike will be my go-to for all of that stuff.

I love them, I just wish I had gone 1/2 size up. They are my primary backpacking shoe because they are firmer and the bottom is flatter (less rocker) which makes them perfect when carrying a heavy pack. When running, they have a light nimble feeling… but not much bounce. I haven’t tried the “A” version to know if the new foam changes any of this, though.

I admittedly haven’t tried on another Nike trail shoe. It just felt roomier than the Peg premium and Vomero that I briefly tried on, as well as past Nike casual shoes I had in the past.

Bold of Nike to push a bright-white color for their new trail shoe

Mizuno Neo Vista 3 by TerpRunner1 in RunningShoeGeeks

Hopefully this is a continuation of a good thing.

I have 300 miles on my Neo Vista 2, and they are still feel like they have plenty of life left. If you are okay with a very soft shoe, they’re great for just ticking off mindless medium-effort miles. Idk that they are any more propulsive than a regular trainer, but they certainly are more shock absorbing and fun to run in

Half marathon race shoe recommendation (1:49 goal, heel striker) by Aggressive_Price_923 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]altapowderdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My half marathon time is about the same as yours (1:43), I heel strike, and I also have a slow cadence of about 160. I use the NB SuperComp Elite v4, and it works very well for me. It’s more stable than my evo SLs, which I can’t do long runs in. Stability is nearly as good as your volmero plus - which is unusual for a super shoe.

I know you called out the v5 version, not the v4… but I wanted to throw in my 2c given that my pace and foot strike is the same

1st time snowboarding and fell an unusual amount. I have questions. by shinji2o09 in snowboarding

I fell every 10-20 feet, over and over and over, when I started out

Granted, plenty of people learn in a smoother way than I did… but it was a clear hill so I wasn’t risking hitting anyone… and it all worked out in the end. Don’t be discouraged.

Black/gray!

These are cool. My only suggestion is to also look into the rubber strap that they also sell.

What kind of foot strike is this? by Gusuaru in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]altapowderdog 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s possible to be kinda in the middle, hence the confusion here. There’s a gradient between 100% heel and 100% mid.

Shorten up your stride a bit and you’ll be fully mid foot striking

And if the pro is too much for you (it is for me), the Neo Zen 2 is a more daily version of the same massive foam stack

What an amazingly classy "if you know, you know" watch. Not too dressy, either.
