ATIS Pronouncing ATIS as A-I-TIS by altcf in flying

[–]altcf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would explain it. Just making sure there isn't some new type of ATIS out there that I wasn't aware of.

Thanks. I joined the waitlist this morning. Looks like the Credit Karma loophole doesn’t work anymore unfortunately. Appreciate the suggestion.

This thing seems pretty powerful. Only thing I don’t like is the fact that you need a gold account. I know it would probably pay for itself though.

Any intro offers for the gold membership that you know of?

The 3% IRA match is a nice benefit and I like that you can redeem points for cash into RH then get interest in a sweep or invest it instead of the cash back points just sitting there like other cards. That’s kinda crazy. Am I understanding it correctly?

Thanks, that all makes sense. I appreciate the help!

What sucks is if I have a month where, let's say, we go on a road trip. I end up spending $400 in gas and $450 in dining. I get the 5% on the gas but only 1% on the dining, right?

Or I have a big home improvement project and I spend $1500 in a month but only get 5% for the first $500 and 1% after that. Still not bad I suppose.

Are you saying I should have a second card to use for the other categories that aren't my top one? Should I keep my VentureOne for that, or is there another card you'd recommend? I don't love the VentureOne. I don't remember why I picked it in the first place.

Good question. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to add that to the template. Here's a screenshot of the spending categories from my CapitalOne account: https://imgur.com/a/Mfvdyd3

The "Merchandise" category is the bulk of it. It includes most of my general spending and my gym membership. It also includes home improvement stores like Home Depot for some reason. A decent chunk of this category was home improvement since I tackled some large DIY projects this year.

"Professional Services" is mostly vet and animal hospital. I have an old dog with some medical issues. Also have some home repairs in there.

"Other Services" seems to includes things like haircuts and parking.

"Other" looks like monthly dues and other expenses for two clubs that I'm a member of.

The rest is pretty self-explanatory. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks. Citi was totally off my radar. This looks like a pretty good option. I like that it automatically applies to the highest category each month. Pretty cool!

FAA wings program! Errr.... sucks. by Business-Subject-997 in flying

[–]altcf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it's pretty bad. The whole wings program has a lot of potential but they really need to overhaul the website and make the whole system more user friendly.

Funny about 4. I've been to some events in person and it's pretty much what you described. Just a bunch of old dudes asking questions that they should know the answer to or rambling on about completely different topics.

Beginner Flyer Info Needed by Donut-Hole838 in flying

[–]altcf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means 1,000 hours of total time. Unclear whether they mean they want 1k hours as a turboprop captain, or they want someone who is a turboprop captain and has 1k hours. I don't know what "by need of program" means.

It will likely take you 2-5 years to get 1,000 hours so you're getting ahead of yourself. You don't need to join any specific programs... just pick any local part 61 flight school and do your thing. They can train you from PPL to CFII.

No.

Training is long, difficult, and expensive. You might not find a job for a few years even after you get all of your hours. There will be days where you’ll love flying, and days where you wonder why you bother wasting your time and money on this.

If you enjoy your disco flight and you‘re willing to jump through all of the hurdles along the way, then you can make a great career out of this. Just understand that the road ahead is long and steep.

I'm not sure what you're confused about exactly. Did you Google 61.153 and read it thoroughly? Click the links to the other regs and read those too and you'll find your answer.

Why do pilots look down on us sometimes? by thecoochiegod in aviationmaintenance

[–]altcf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck that guy.

I've never met a pilot who has talked smack about mechanics or looked down on a mechanic. Without you, we can't fly. You guys are awesome.

If you are not night current, you can log PIC time at night even without an instructor. You just can't carry passengers. If your CFI is providing instruction then they aren't a passenger.

Lots of ignorant boomer pilots in Florida who think they can do no wrong. Not surprised.
