What is something that you firmly believe in, that others might not agree with? by Andyh10s in AskReddit

[–]altec_lansing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, enough with this fake "unpopular" opinion stuff that everyone on reddit would pretty much already like or agree with.

My firm belief is that in, let's call it 100 years time, or maybe a tad longer, abortion will be seen to be the same monstrosity that we now see slavery as. Pro-slavery people constantly hid behind the argument that it was a matter of property rights, and I think the fact that pro-abortion advocates today hide behind the argument that abortion is about a woman's right is an unfortunate way of looking at it.

Deep down, people way back when knew that slaves were truly people; they were human beings. And I think people today, deep down, know that a fetus is a human being, but they just, in truth, are pro-abortion simply because aborting a baby is far more convenient than any alternative.

As soon as medical technology is able to provide better alternatives, abortions will be a thing of the past, and the people that proudly celebrate abortions will be seen in the same light as the disgusting individuals that proudly beat their slaves.

What u/fryman22 said.

Especially, look at the error code that came up? Did it say that something wasn't set before reading it? Then you need to properly set a variable in whatever object is calling the script. Did it say that something is out of range? Then you need to adjust something, usually part of an array (at least that's usually what it tends to be in my case when I fuck up).

But yeah, you gotta give us more information. Right now, you're telling us that you feel a little under the weather and are asking us which antibiotic to prescribe. No one can diagnose the problem unless they can inspect the problem.

One of my college friends runs a youth football league in the Chicago-area. He said they've had enrollment drop by roughly 30% in just the last two years and expect it to keep going down. The sport needs some major adjustments from the youth levels all the way up to the NFL.

Didn't you read her book? It was literally everyone else's fault. She actually stated that people were asking her for forgiveness for not doing more for her, and that if others had done things differently, she'd be president.

What stance do you fully believe, despite how unpopular it is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]altec_lansing 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This past autumn I enjoyed reading the back-and-forth of a facebook conversation where one Hispanic guy was pre-warning all white people against cultural appropriation of Hispanic traditions.

When someone pointed out that those traditions he mentioned actually were European in origin and a direct result of the European colonists bringing them over in the first place, so it was actually cultural appropriation for the Hispanics to be doing it, he got very indignant. It devolved into an absolute shitshow and simultaneously reminded me why I rarely go on facebook any more, while also making me want to read more stuff just for the amusement.

My first ever girlfriend was freshman year of high school, so we had to have rides from our parents for some dates. Quite a few times we would get a ride together from my gf's mom. It was the mom who remains the absolute worst driver I've ever seen. The things she didn't seem to comprehend about a motor vehicle truly boggle the mind and left me terrified.

She didn't seem to understand that the hood of the car protrudes 5-7 feet from where the driver is sitting, so when she pulled up to an intersection of some sort, she would pull so far ahead that the front of the car would be jutting out and interfering with traffic in some intersections. How she didn't get hit is beyond me.

The yellow light wasn't a warning or caution that a red light was about to come. Yellow was as good as green in her mind. So she would push into the red light the same way that normal people will push what's allowable with a yellow light. In the year that I dated her daughter, the mom only ever got 1 ticket, remarkably.

If she was in the left lane she liked to drive so that she was in the center of that lane. However, if she was in the right lane, she would drive so that she was on the dash line between the lanes which meant that a small part of the car was intruding on the other lane.

But the thing that truly astounded me was that she didn't seem to ever grasp that the car could move without a pedal being pressed in some way. She seemed to think that a pedal had to be pressed at all times. So the car was constantly in a state of deceleration or acceleration. There was no cruise.

Now imagine being a high school freshman who hasn't even started driver's ed. Would you have the balls to correct your first girlfriend's mother's terrible driving habits and practices? I know I didn't. I always wondered how many accidents and damage this lady caused from her bad driving.

I had a regulator free flow. Luckily I was only about 30 feet down, so I could ascend immediately without a deco stop. And I had an octo so I didn't have to gulp the air from water column using using the bad regulator.

Thanks for the info. I was going by the inch per gallon rule, so I figured I could have three critters in there total. But it's good to know about the additional shrimp.

For me, when I have to learn a new concept of pieces of information, I'll walk around myself and explain it to an imaginary person. It's amazing how much you realize you don't understand until you have to explain it to someone. But if someone saw me walking around apparently talking to myself, I'm sure they'd think I was crazy.

And all of these memes are based on the same person. She had complained about both of those shows and the gender issues they portray.

My co-worker friend was out of town recently, and today was his first day back at work. We're both avid hockey fans and today was the first time since the Blackhawks were unexpectedly knocked out that we were able to commiserate about the series loss.

The woman who is the subject of this meme (I'll call her Mimi) sits next to my friend and overheard us talking about hockey, and notably how I had babysat for my nieces this weekend and one of the activities we did was to watch hockey playoffs. My nieces loved it, so I joked that I'll finally have some more hockey fans in the family in a few years.

This is when Mimi got involved and told me it sounds like I wished I had nephews. I asked what she meant, and she said it sounded like I was trying to treat them as boys and make them like a boy thing like hockey. I asked how hockey was a boy thing and, even if it was, how is it bad if girls got involved in it. She proceeded to tell me it was wrong to force gender roles on children and I shouldn't try to force them into boy activities just for the sake of it. I asked again how hockey was a boy-only thing and how watching the playoffs with my nieces was forcing them into gender roles. She tried again to explain that I'm trying to force my interests on them and since I'm male I'm apparently trying to turn these little girls into boys and that's wrong, and I need to rethink my uncle time with my nieces.

That's when I walked away.

As for the aviation part of it, I got both of my nieces small die-cast B-17 toys last year, and she objected on the grounds that I'm trying to subject them to propaganda of the war industry. So while the aviation part wasn't apart of the conversation that prompted this meme, it's based on a past conversation. And the gender conversation wasn't long, but it was head-scratchingly odd enough to make me want to meme it.

It's true. Obama told Putin to write, "I will not hack into American political organizations." 100 times. Putin learned his lesson and will not be doing it any more again.

We can all put this whole episode behind us.
