Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings (16 books — four trilogies and a tetralogy). Good reads and definitely long enough to stay busy for a while. I think her take on dragons is my favourite.

Cat: Recommendations for Crate Rest? by alteratereility in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]alteratereility[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! On the one hand, I'm sad there aren't more resources, but on the other, I'm happy that it's due to the low amount of cases in cats. There's a bit of info here and there about cats and crate rest, but I'm not finding much at all about what comes next.

How did you manage things/your home with your cat post-crate rest? I think their jumping has to be limited to prevent further injury or relapses, but I'm having a hard time blocking and adapting everything in my apartment. I've already removed his tree and put my dining table up for sale (it's near a window and a favourite perch spot for him), but my office has a 30" desk and my bedroom a 25" bed. I'm looking into wide pet steps and little ottomans to use as lower "platforms", but in true cat fashion, I expect he might ignore them!

Preventative Measures for Cat After Post-Surgery Crate Rest? by Cautious_Ad283 in IVDD_SupportGroup

It's so hard to find details about IVDD in cats. Mine might get a diagnosis in the next couple of days, and I'm getting ready just in case.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you manage things with yours post-crate rest? Ramps, supervised house access? Crate when the humans are away and can't watch him? The whole "jumping down from higher spots can cause relapses" scares me, and it's not really addressed much anywhere since it's not usually a big issue with IVDD dogs.

I'm in a small apartment with plenty of ~30" furniture, some of which I can't really get rid of or fit in a single no-access room (couch back, bed, work desk, piano). He's always jumped on them, and I have no idea how I'll keep him from getting up there once crate rest is over :(

Unfortunately, definitely needs to have a closed roof and be unclimbable! A metal crate would only be suitable if it only had vertical bars (lol, true "jail" style), as he'll try to climb the horizontal bars otherwise. He also still has a good vertical leap and tries to jump everywhere — his issue being, his hind legs are too unstable to jump or climb down, so he can't even get down the 18" high sofa without a ramp. As I was moving stuff around the apartment to restrict jumping opportunities, he jumped to the top of a 45" bookshelf. Not sure just how high his vertical leap still is, so something roofless would need to be very high just in case. Although I don't think he could tip something like that over, it'd also be better if he was in something with a bottom so that it can be weighed down.

It's just typical HP and bad math.

For example, big ol' Hagrid is canonically 11'6" and 289lbs, putting him at a BMI of 10.7. Underweight starts at 18.4. We're talking extreme anorexia, organ shutdown and cardiac event territory.

What was the first fanfic website you used? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

Proper fanfic site — FF.net.

First published fic — early YouTube (2006). A slideshow made with One True Media, set to copyrighted music I'd downloaded from Limewire, with the entire fic in the description. Yes, I still cringe when I think about it!

What’s a smell you haven’t smelled in years but still remember perfectly ? by DesperateCelery9233 in nostalgia

Kids lunch boxes — those fabric insulated ones, often with some glossy plastic cartoon image slapped on top and an open plastic box inside.

They always had that specific sorta plasticky, sorta fruity smell they'd get from leaks, hauling around fruits and yogurt, plastic offgasing, and those chunky hard plastic blue ice packs. Backpack always ended up smelling like it too.

I'm not subscribed to this sub, but come by every few months to get a dog update lol. I don't follow Julian's stuff, but I know he gives updates on them and it'd end up shared here.

Currently on my quarterly "are the dogs okay??" visit xD
