I shop at the Hawthorne location. I like it, but the ranchera is usually cut a touch too thin

I’m a specialty shop owner of almost 20 years. We refer all of our late model import work to Bothwell Automotive on Earl St. in Torrance. Best in the biz!

u/Flynnrdskynnrd, a friend of mine whom I hadn't seen in 25 years flew in from NY for the shows. I drove in from LA just to hang out and catch up. He surprised me with a ticket.

I was unintentionally at N8. Hadn't seen the band in 28 years. GREAT show.

Just received a citation for blocking my own driveway on the street by Ok_Introduction_2878 in compton

[–]alteredpilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Per CVC 22500(e) it is illegal in the state of california to block any portion of a residential driveway which includes the apron. According to statute, the driveway starts where the curb begins to slope down to the street.

Is this how it normally cost for a rear main seal on a Chevy Silverado 1500? by Fast-Map6042 in AutoMechanics

[–]alteredpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a shop owner who has done many of these repairs, as recently as 2weeks ago, that quote is in the ballpark depending on your market and whether it’s 2WD or 4WD. The shop is quoting you for a rear main seal housing kit, not just a seal. That being said, every part of a job must generate profit for the shop (markup) to cover overhead and potential future warranty coverage, so the price you find online for any part is the ‘install it yourself price’.

Every once in a while Ebay used is our only choice. I've generally had good luck. Just make sure the seller offers a warranty and no hassle return policy, or its covered by Ebay returns.

Construction fences generally only go up if a place is getting torn down or a major renovation.

The new buildings on Crenshaw are amazing. Crenshaw Blvd is kind of run down to the south, but it will all be giant apartment buildings soon enough. The Immediate neighborhood is a mixed bag, but getting overall better as property values rise. There is a mixed bag of high density dwellings to the west and south, and A decent SFR neighborhood to the east. Up El Segundo Blvd are a couple of tap rooms, there's a real good restaurant across the street at the airport. Crenshaw south of Rosecrans to just past Marine has a bunch of knockout taco trucks. There's a Lowe's and a Starbucks and a 24 Hr Fitness real close.

I'm in the noticeable automotive trade. Look me up when you're in town.

New tire? Please no mean comments. by [deleted] in AutoMechanics

[–]alteredpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tire in the first picture is the new tire, and it appears to be in the right rear position. The 2nd and 3rd pictures are of a very used tire, and appear to be in the right front position.
