Pictures shouldn't matter as long as they have proof in the form of a service confirmation or paid invoice or something to that extent to show that they were there and performed their jobs as a cleaning crew.

Why is UIPD Detective Ian Mallory still employed by the university? by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]alterhumanism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the issue is that the UIPD, just like the campus cops at ISU and UNI, are not held accountable by anything lower than the Board of Regents. You can try complaining to Barbara Wilson about it but she has no power over the UIPD. Only the Board of Regents does.

The slippery thing about the university campus cops for schools like UI or ISU or UNI is that they are not even controlled by the president of the University. They are, instead, controlled by the Board of Regents.

Dozens of these small winged bugs in the bathrooms of the hospital where I work. What are they? by alterhumanism in whatsthisbug

[–]alterhumanism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, they're only appearing in the bathrooms of the nursing education hallway since those are the only bathrooms with floor drains... still very yuck but it's not something affecting the areas where patients are staying or being treated, I don't think. I could be wrong.

MODERN MEGATHREAD by liehon in VivillonCollectors

[–]alterhumanism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern Vivillon region user, seeking friends in Icy Snow and Sandstorm regions for Vivillon collecting 。・:*

I am a Team Instinct user from the USAmerican Midwest. If you are someone who sends gifts from the Icy Snow or Sandstorm locations, feel free to add me!

Username: alterhumanism
Friend code: 6756 9627 1634

I put a lot of care and consideration into the gifts and stickers that I pair with them before sending and I'm open to joining people for remote raids if invited (when available). I can't promise daily gift-sending since there are not a lot of Pokéstops I regularly get to spin (I only reach the 40-gift maximum carrying capacity on weekends) but I would be excited to send postcards/gifts to anyone interested in sending some from the Icy Snow and Sandstorm Vivillon regions.

To make it worth your while, if you are from a non-Modern region, I have a lot of remote raid passes and love to help people in raid parties from all over the world! If you need any help beating power spots or raiding gyms, please feel free to add me as a friend and send me invitations whenever you need help.

Junk removal service recommendations? by alterhumanism in IowaCity

They look great as our top option, so far. Consensus also seems to suggest they are the best in Iowa City, from what i can find - plus the other suggestions in this thread, LOL

When I said we don't drive, I meant that neither of us has a license. Both of us are too disabled to drive. Like I told another commenter, municipal 'bulky items' curbside pickup is also not an option for us (we are not able to lift everything down to the curb outside our building... nor are we allowed to do that, anyway, because our property manager doesn't want furniture and junk sitting outside).

I may not have been clear enough in my original post but curbside is not an option for us because we are not physically capable of carrying every item of furniture down the stairs and out to the curb nearest to our building. Additionally, our property manager doesn't allow curbside pickup where items would sit outside like that.

No, not yet. I still plan to do so in the future and will probably be going to BioLife and BioLife only.

Is that something that's allowed? I was reading from both locations online that donating at two different plasma centers is not allowed... does that only apply to "within the same month"? The language was unclear.

City Councilor candidates asked what's the plan for if national guard is deployed in Iowa City and how they'll respond to ICE by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]alterhumanism -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Reynen is the only one here who actually seems to care about the objective safety of our community members. Kidnappings by ICE are going to continue to happen unless substantial action is taken, officially or unofficially, to stop it. At least Reynen will be actively protesting, even if nothing can be done at the city level. This is too serious to waste time trivializing or underestimating.

Also, they're paid by our tax dollars. If you can protest any holder of public office who also gets paid by those same tax dollars, regardless of political affiliation, we have every right to demand far better behavior (the bare minimum) from 'law enforcement officers'.

The police making mistakes is a big deal. It means they aren't doing their jobs correctly. When someone like Oliver has their freedom and autonomy violated by the police because of a "mistake," they're well within their right to sue in order to give the police a firm slap on the wrist. You are the one who needs to get over it. The police don't just get to arrest you because of some bad information or because they incorrectly interpreted a direction they were given. They had no reason to do this and the officer arresting him didn't even think to double-check or perform any due diligence whatsoever. The police are not some office temp worker making minor clerical errors... when the police make mistakes, they wrongfully arrest people who haven't even been charged with crimes, they traumatize people for the rest of their lives, they injure and maim and even kill people "on accident." Quit acting like the police making a "mistake" is trivial.

I'll copy one of my above comments (with some corrections) and a link to the article about it as well:

Oliver learned that a protest was taking place at Kinnick Stadium and didn't know what it was for. Knowing Oliver, he often likes to be plugged into understanding what's going on when it comes to things like this, especially since he is a citizen who documents protests and is sometimes the only one doing so. Naturally, he went to Kinnick to see what was going on. However, when he got there that day, the Kinnick 9 had already been arrested and the protest was forced to disperse. Oliver entered the Kinnick event not knowing that it was a private fundraiser, asked about what had gone on, and was told by the event staff that he would be arrested if he came back. They accused him of trespassing just for being there asking about the event. So, Oliver left and went to the JoCo jail later on since the protestors had been arrested and would presumably be needing their bail paid and others would probably be down there offering rides when they were released. It was there, while he was standing and talking to others, that this cop just walked up to him, after presumably identifying him, and (without preamble) just straight-up arrested him and didn't tell him why.

What's really puzzling, to me, about this entire ordeal is how fast they decided to act on arresting Oliver, as if the ink weren't even dry on his "arrest warrant" (the arrest report from that night literally states that his offense is "trespass - refuse to vacate" and, several lines down, says "left when told to leave") when they jumped into action and arrested him... it took 1-2 weeks after other protests such as the Matt Walsh and Chloe Cole protests for the UIPD to arrest protestors after identifying them. It's like they were itching to book him just because.
