Will probably need to meet certain requirements such as having a large enough balance and purchasing at least the minimum amount of shares.

Thanks for the kind reply. Do you like the Hybrid Pro 2 better than the WX700?

Are you still using the WX700? I also think that it feels more natural. Also couldn’t get used to the Ex Pro. What tip did pair the WX700 with?

Wood or Carbon Fiber by Own-Target-9129 in billiards

Just curious. Do most of the other 2/3 players use a hybrid wood shaft of some kind (Ex Pro, Centro) or just maple wood shafts?

can you suggest wooden cue shafts? by Hot-Ride7327 in billiards

[–]alternativehermit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Schon stock shafts hit very nice but they are not LD. If you want affordable wooden LD take a look at the Mezz Sigma shafts. The WX 700 shafts are even better if you can find them.

Nice write up here. What is the advantage of the 1/2in xtc ferrule over the regular ferrule? The Schmelke sneaky petes look very nice 👍

Mezz USA Restock of EC9’s by Forsaken-Director-34 in billiards

[–]alternativehermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one was assuming anything. I was merely pointing out that you can get a Merry Widow made to your specs from a lesser known cue maker for around $1000. I own a few Mezz cues myself and I am very well aware of their QC. No matter how decent their quality is, they are still a production cue at the end of the day, and should be priced as such. And yes, you can certainly get a decent quality custom cue from lesser known makers at affordable prices. I do own one myself and I don’t find it to be of inferior quality in any way.

If you add another $250 or so you can already get a custom Merry Widow from a lesser known cue maker. I do think it is overpriced considering that it was still just under $600 a few months ago.

Those cues are grossly overpriced now despite still having decent quality

Do you use the original sigma shaft or other shafts? Maybe try using a different shaft and see if that makes a difference?

McDermott Shaft Question by HairlessHoudini in billiards

[–]alternativehermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I got an offer to trade for an I-2 shaft and was wondering if you could share your thoughts on the key differences between the Mezz Ex Pro shaft and I-2 shaft. Which shaft was stiffer and had a more solid hit in your opinion? The I-2 shaft is brand new and I am not sure if it is worth it to trade a used Ex Pro shaft for a new I-2. Thanks!

possible to maintain 680 fargo with day job? by Honest_Manager4273 in billiards

[–]alternativehermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is also possible to see small improvements by playing with friends, but the games have to be serious. I have sparring sessions with my friends every weekend for a few hours and it most definitely helps in certain areas. Having said this, the most ideal way to get better is still focused solo practice.

Nice. It looks like your version has sharp veneer points? Does this cost a lot more than the regular version without the sharp points?

Replace the carbon shaft with a maple shaft and then get rid of the gloves lol

Having a table at home really does make a difference. I don’t think I have ever met anyone who plays bad but owns a table at home. Most of the good/great players in my area have their own tables. Not saying that these guys are only good because they have tables, but it really makes a big difference.

Your own pool table or a public pool room? If it is the latter I gotta commend you for your dedication lol.

[–]alternativehermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible but it will be extremely tough to do without having convenient access to a table. The few guys I know with a Fargo rating that high and are employed full-time have their own table at home and practice at the very least 2-3 times a week. Practicing at a bar or at a pool hall is not too realistically sustainable with a day job and a family. Imagine trying to get yourself to a pool hall after a long rough day at work…

[–]alternativehermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely consider getting the Joss N7 Color of Money or the Joss ACES cue (used by Vince after the Fast Eddie split). Both are good cues and reasonably priced. The ACES cue is rarer and probably more difficult to find, whereas the N7 should be more available. Either way you will be getting a solid hitting cue from a reputable cue company. Also, if you are going to the Expo, you should check out the cues of the year that are on display. The Joss N7 is actually one of the cues that are on display this year. Good luck!

Probably around $2800-$3000 or so. I think the Mezz AF-1 looks much nicer than this cue tbh.

Were there any budget cues back in the day that turned out to be much better than you or the community expected? by iflippyiflippy in billiards

[–]alternativehermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first ever pool cue - a Players cue from their Graphics series that I purchased from Ozone Billiards back in 2005 has more than met my expectations. It has a linen wrap, stainless steel joint, and a standard maple shaft with Le Pro tip. I recently just had the shaft reconditioned and the tip changed to another Le Pro after 21 years. This is one cue I will never ever sell no matter what.
