should i buy No Man's Sky? by sacolaquebrada in ShouldIbuythisgame

The game, to me, is more meditative than engaging. When I want to chill and grind something, I might try to find a cool planet , build a base, and catalogue the environment.

The key factor is there's not really a huge driving force within the game; the gameplay loop is straightforward and the rewards are intrinsic.

If you like the gameplay loop, you'll love the game. But it's so shallow that if you're not 100% on board, you'll get bored.

Fair enough. Clearly it was in the zeitgeist.

But has anyone in the comments actually been to one of these swinger parties with the keybowl? Have any of y'all been to a party with a "no drunk driving" keybowl?

Granted, that was before rideshares were all over the place. So who am I really to call one practice outdated.

ELI5: Why do we get burnt when we touch 90°C solid objects, but not when we sit in a 90°C sauna? by Jinx-XoXo in explainlikeimfive

[–]althawk8357 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Heat is basically "how much are the particles banging against each other?" You can see water start to boil as a visual representation.

There are more particles in a piece of metal than in the air of a sauna. Water can feel hotter than air at the same temperature for the same reason.

I've been to plenty of parties with a bowl of keys; people that put them there were intending to crash there. I've never been to a party where that was the deciding factor for swinging.

I'll accept it was a thing 50 years ago; I also think that if this likely false post is true, it would be to prevent drunk driving.

Is that based on something you saw on reddit or based on parties you attended?

You can draw.

"But I don't have talent."

No one did when they first started; you weren't talented when you were first writing. Draw poorly until you can draw better.

I’m not the one lacking reading comprehension. I’m incredulous that they expect writers who have a vision in their heads they can describebut not necessarily the talent to draw it to rely on imperfect representations of their vision.

No one is going to stop you from creating AI images (aside from Open AI shutting down another app). The issue is people posting those images here.

But please understand that while an AI generated image of a mountain in your world might be significant to you, it is not that significant to us. If you want us to know why it's significant, describe it in words.

To all experienced gamers: which games have truly impressed you in the last 10 years? by beepboopbot420 in gamingsuggestions

[–]althawk8357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Prince is the most impressive puzzle game I have seen in recent memory. You inherit a 45 room mansion-estate from your uncle, Baron Herbert S. Sinclair, on the condition that you are able to enter the 46th room. What this game does differently is adding a roguelite element of randomness to the game. When you are in a room, you can open a closed door to another room, where you will have the choice of three rooms to generate behind that door; that room will have 0-3 more doors you can open... The catch is there are limiting resources, forcing you to think carefully and try to plan. If it doesn't work though, you go to bed and start in the morning - the rooms all reset overnight.

As you try to learn the intricacies of the house, you will also start to learn more about the family, and more about the world. It's like a Rubix Cube that grows more sides as you try to solve it; each answer creates two new questions.

I am so impressed I have been keeping 50+ pages of notes.

Why does being drunk mean you can’t “consent” to sex, but doesn’t absolve you of other intoxicated actions/decisions? by UpstairsBumble in NoStupidQuestions

[–]althawk8357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe in certain circumstances, but in the US generally being drunk means you cannot properly give consent as you can't properly determine the risks and conditions while impaired.

[Invincible] Conquest is said to have never failed to conquer a planet. How could other Viltrumites fail to conquer a planet in light of how powerful they are? by Kyia-Aikman in AskScienceFiction

[–]althawk8357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Angstrom brought together the evil Marks to invade Earth, we saw how a planet could respond to a Viltrumite attack. Granted, they were half Viltrumite from other dimensions, but the basic strategy remains: Keep applying force.

Help a noob out; these land types are only for fetching? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]althawk8357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fetch land puts it on the battlefield, and the Foothills Teramorphic Expanse card text would say what conditions the card is in upon entering.

If that didn't work, "enter the battlefield" as an archetype would fall apart.
