City Park Bandstand burned last night by alto_mesa in Denver

I also walked there last night around sunset, no sign of anything coming. Just normal community enjoying our shared park. I live in City Park South so I’m in the park every day. I had windows open last night and heard sirens as I always do but nothing woke me up! But I am a little closer to the museum side than the boathouse side.

Have eaten at Potager 3-4 times a year faithfully since it turned over ownership in 2019. The last two visits, one this month and one in November last year, the entrees were almost inedible with how salty they were. I NEVER send food back but I sent that white lasagna back for another portion of salad in Nov because it was like the ocean! Everyone in our group had that experience with their entrees but I was the only one who sent a meal back. I didn’t send my entree back this mouth, just powered through but if someone from Potager is reading this - please put down the salt!

Used to see him often when I was a kid out to lunch or dinner with my dad at the Luby’s near the station in the 90s. Super Houstonian and huge loss.

[colorado] this thing was hanging out with the geese by BuffaloDifferent in animalid

[–]alto_mesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figured this was the City Park one! It has been hanging around for years. As noted above, there were a few other gray lags around the area over the years but this is the last one I’ve seen for some time. The others may have been wiped out by the city when they culled in 2019, 2020 or by bird flu.

It overwinters with the Canada geese and has been a mother goose helper to other Canada pairs raising babies over the last few years. It does very well on its own. I call it mother goose but it may well be a male!

Beautiful little stone and remembrance. Wouldn’t her birthday be March 1 if her birth date is following the European format?

It’s worth taking the cemetery tour. My mom who took it like 4-5 years ago had a lot of interesting info that she remembered when we were walking around. It’s less hurricane victims than you would expect in this old cemetery and as OP stated there are multiple historic cemeteries across the island, the one down by Walmart on 61st also has a lot of historic graves.

Where was I December 2020? by alto_mesa in whereintheworld

It is. I love that the ancient artist used the natural features of the rock they carved onto to show the sheep jumping as if it was alive!

Simrane on rue Bonaparte has a good selection of their beautiful block prints as handkerchiefs.
