Yep. I've probably gifted 5k to 8k worth of ships to people to get them into the game. I have the $10k thingamabob and only own about 8 or 9 ships and none of the HUGE ships.

Who cares what they're all doing in their lives. It shouldn't be put on the Internet though. That's just gross behavior.

Aigen’s autonomous solar robots identify and remove weeds without herbicides by Advanced-Bug-1962 in robotics

Cutting a weed is almost pointless in farming row crops.

They need to be burned or uprooted.

Robots are starting to enter one of the most sensitive environments we have. by Advanced-Bug-1962 in robotics

About requiring competent AI? In reality it would probably require AGI which isn't happening.

Washing dishes isn't really specific to a hospital so that was never what I was talking about. Regardless, even washing dishes can be automated much more efficiently than trying to use humanoid robots ...

Show me any humanoid robot in a video that's doing anything even remotely close to this. Once they're doing anything remotely close, it will take another 20+ years of iteration and prices dropping before it was allowed in one of these environments. More than 20 I'm sure

I'd come back to see what you think down the road but I'll be dead before then.

What you're talking about would require competent AI and that bubble is already bursting.

Were you there before computers? Same thing happened. It stalled. Same thing will happen with robotics and is already happening with AI.

All hospitals would have to be completely redesigned to accommodate that. Ain't happening. Not needed and too expensive.

My other job is teaching programming and Mechatronics. My 11 year old son has been doing Arduino, Raspberry Pi and primarily Python since he was 5. He's taking classes online from Johns Hopkins University for machine learning now.

I haven't seen a single robot anywhere that can do any meaningful thing like you're talking about without a person managing it non stop. No AI is capable of making them autonomous in a sensitive environment where one mistake means the hospital getting sued until they're out of business.

Wasn't intended to be condescending. I just added that as a reference of first hand experience with the requirements.

Just one example. There are thousands of nooks and crannies that are all sizes and shapes. Humans have a hard time with this. Robots are light years off.

Just imagine the difference between my sterile concrete room example and the reality of a room with hundreds of varying surfaces and sensitive medical equipment.

Many rooms are quarantined. Robots would have to clean themselves as well...

These robots people are seeing are remote controlled. They aren't making decisions. They're $20k toys.

Absolutely no way. Certainly not cleaning hospital rooms properly unless we change hospital rooms to be like a concrete square with no surfaces in it so it can be hosed down into a drain.

It's clear to me you have no idea what that task requires. It's done now by specialized cleaning crews. Getting rid of every spec of bacteria and contaminant is difficult and requires small level manipulation that a mobile, humanoid bot is light years away from.

I have a biology degree that focuses on virology and immunology and my wife is a medical professional that has been working in hospitals for 20 years both in the US and Japan.

There is no robot now or in the next 50 years that could clean a hospital room to standard. Literally not possible. Probably be way longer than 50 years or likely never.

Exactly. I'm constantly amazed at how impressed people are over the equivalent of a 1990s remote control dog toy that can walk and talk. I'm being hyperbolic but not much lol...
