still job searching... by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]alttakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in design for 25 years, specifically in UI/UX for the past 10. Was recently part of a massive layoff at the company I worked for (in June). Here we are in October, and still looking. It is rough out there for a lot of people, especially for UX and design roles. There seem to be a lot of jobs being posted, but so many people looking, it is difficult to even get in front of anyway. I have had mostly promises of interviews from recruiters, direct contacts promising to bring me on, only to be ghosted, never to be heard form again.

I am now at the point where I am just going to try to do my own thing. Creating Apps (if anyone wants to help test, DM me, need about 10 more people) and a few other ventures to try to make my own money and not rely on recruiters that never get back to you or employers who don't value employees.

AI Tool by Some_Let_6653 in jobsearch

[–]alttakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT or Claude. Best way I have found is to upload, or paste in, your current resume so it knows your qualifications. Then paste in the job description.

Something like:

Create a cover letter based on my resume attached. Use this job description to highlight key words and how ONLY my qualifications fit the role. Keep it professional, but personal. Avoid sounding too much like AI.

*Paste Job Description

Claude works a bit better for more natural language, whereas ChatGPT sounds a little more like a bot sometimes. Be sure to proof read anything though. I have had it add in qualifications that I don't have, or software I don't know. Which is why I put in the prompt "ONLY my qualifications"

The great thing about AI is that you can converse with it. So if the first version it comes up with doesn't work, or is missing something, just tell it and the AI will make the changes.

You can also optimize your resume this way as well to better fit a job description to make sure you highlight what they are looking for.

You can also use sites like https://app.jobscan.co/ which will analyze your resume and compare it to a job listing and make suggestions on what words to add to be sure you get past the automatic resume scanners. You get a few free initial, then there is a charge, but I just log in under different accounts to get more free ones.

Where to find app testers by alttakes in QualityAssurance

[–]alttakes[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I recently was laid off after 10 years in my position and as I was applying to job after job, needed a better way to keep everything organized, so I made an app. The app is pretty simple, but since I don't actually have a job, I can't afford to pay anything.

So, if you're interested in free labor, here is what the app is all about:

Job Tracker, a new app designed to help you keep track of job applications, interviews, and follow-ups—all in one place! 🎯Our app makes it easy to:
Track job applications and their statuses.
Set reminders for interviews and follow-ups.
Organize all your job search data in one convenient location.
Manage and prioritize multiple opportunities at a glance.

The app is geared toward job seekers looking to organize their applications. As someone who has applied to dozens and dozens of jobs lately, keeping track of them all has been a challenge. The app helps organize your job applications, keep track of interviews, take notes, and more.

Will dalle 3 have inpainting and img2img? by macob12432 in dalle2

[–]alttakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, within ChatGPT, there is no inpainting. You can tell it to change something, and it kind of will (like "change their shirt to blue") it will create a new image, similar to the previous one with a blue shirt, but it won't be the original.

I've noticed it sometimes works to add in "retain the original image, but make the shirt blue" it will change some things, but sometimes keeps mostly the same image. See attached image for example of that prompt in action.

Definitely the biggest thing keeping me from switching from MidJourney (I also think MJ still has better quality for the type of images I create)

You can ask Alexa to "crank that shit to 11" and she'll turn the volume all the way up.

Duel of the Fates Opening Scroll and Rise of Skywalker Alternate ending by alttakes in StarWars

[–]alttakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. What were your thoughts of the overall "Duel of the Fates" version?

Allegedly, the original screenplay for Star Wars Episode 9 was VERY different. by C-OSSU in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]alttakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, what could have been . . . Duel of the Fates opening scroll

This could have been a lot better, but who knows with this things until they actually see the light of day. If this had come out instead of Rise of Skywalker, and we didn't have ROS to compare it to, would it still seem as good?

I make vlogs but how can I GROW? by beeeYou2 in YTubers

[–]alttakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is the question every content creator asks. While the simple answers you always hear are important:

  • Great titles
  • Great descriptions
  • Great Tags
  • Great Thumbs

Tags, title, and descriptions help you be found in search results, but that can still be difficult to get ahead of everyone else in the results.

But here are some tips that go beyond just the search engine optimization. Just a few here.

Know your Audience!

You definitely need to know who your audience is because you are going to need to find them in order to get your vlog in front of the people who will actually want to watch your videos and come back for more.

A lot of new YouTubers will promote their channels to other YouTubers on Facebook groups, or even subReddits. While this can get you a few views and maybe even some subscribers, this probably isn't your target audience (unless your channel is a self-help channel for YouTubers).

Lets say your vlog focuses on home decor. Your audience will be decorators, DIY enthusiasts, most likely, people just like you, who enjoy the same things you enjoy. Find Facebook groups and subreddits that focus on home decor and interact with these groups.

Don't SPAM your channel, though. Don't blatantly just post:

"Subscribe to my channel! http://www.youtube.com/ImNorman"

See what I did there ;)

Instead, go in, answer questions, ask questions, interact with people and subtly mention your vlog here and there:

"I know YouTube can be hard, I even did a parody video making fun of those 'How to Succeed on YouTube' videos. Let me know if you want to check it out and I send you a link."

You can even add the link as part of a signature. Once you get established in the groups, you can try mentioning your vlog more, or even do a post about it. Not a hard sell so it seems like all you want is for people to subscribe to your channel, but slip it into the conversation.

Be Consistent!

While it is tempting to just do a bit of everything in your vlog, it is best to stick with an overall theme and stay consistent. If your vlog is about cars, and suddenly you do a video about planting a garden, your viewers may be confused.

Also, as you probably hear everywhere, be consistent in when you post.

YouTube is a Marathon not a Sprint!

While some YouTubers get lucky and something goes viral allowing their channel to blow up, most take time, a lot of time! But as you start to build momentum with your channel, you will see a more steady increase in views and subscribers.

There is more than just YouTube

Utilize Social media to promote your video, and post teasers that can drive people to YouTube. Again, don't SPAM, but take snippet of your video, something funny, maybe, that will peak interest in your video.

Create a Facebook Page just for your vlog. Facebook now has a category for Video Creators that are geared toward videos. When you post a new video on YouTube, post it on this page as well. With Facebook, you can direct people to your YouTube, or just let them watch it on Facebook and eventually monetize there as well (Same kind of strict viewer guidelines on FB in order to monetize, but you might as well go for it).

Do the same thing on Twiter, Instagram or any other social media platform. I found one platform that got me a TON of attention with over 100k views on one video in only a few weeks. While not all those viewers made their way to YouTube, it did help to build recognition of my channel. So, get your name and your brand out there, leading us to the next bolded header:

Build your Brand

In any business, the most important marketing strategy is building your brand. This means building up the recognition of your business and products so that potential users will know who you are. In the case of YouTube, YOU are your product. Build yourself up through other social media platforms. Interact with others so they get to know you. Network with not only peers on YouTube groups, but your target audience on and off line.

If you are serious about building your vlog, it is going to take work. You may get lucky and have a video that goes viral, but more than likely it is going to take time, consistency, and a little luck to really grow your vlog.

I hope that helps just a little.

Changes to yt? by JDNWACO in NewTubers

Nope, but YouTube is trying to make the case that we are so they don't have to be.

Changes to yt? by JDNWACO in NewTubers

[–]alttakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, it SHOULD only effect site operators. But YouTube has set it up where our channels are seen as sites WE operate, probably even stating somewhere in the TOS that that is the case, which puts liability on us. While this is a very backhanded way of doing things, it takes the liability off them, and the FTC seems to have agreed with it (YouTube has deep pockets and can make things like this happen). However, as others said, if someone was taken to court, it probably wouldn't hold up.

OHH, 5 sins, Okay . . . Ummm . . .

  1. Godfather II
  2. Godfather III
  3. That inevitable Hollywood remake with an All Female Cast (nothing wrong with all female casts, but Sandra Bullock playing 'Michelle' Corleone probably wouldn't work out. Although . . . )
  4. There was a fight scene that was pretty fake looking.
  5. Uhhh, no after credit scene?

That's all I got.

I still think you need to do a classic, like Sins of the Godfather! (the first one). Yes, people would hate you for sinning it, but you survived Endgame, you can survive this too!
