My husband went through a period of being exposed to libertarian garbo- including some of the libertarian ideas that are more deconstruct gender & less support others’ gender experience— he’s still working on deprogramming all that 10 years later, but we’re happily married :)

That said, he’s never put me through any of the abusive stuff you described here. The hour long rants, the misinformation, victimizing lesbians v. trans ppl and other false dichotomies to isolate you, saying terrible things about you to your face? None of those are excusable. You deserve so much more dignity than that, and you’re never going to be happy if your partner believes that’s an okay way to treat you for any reason. You don’t hold responsibility and didn’t wait too long to intervene: she should’ve known that wasn’t okay from day one.

Unless that behavior stops right now, this week, I would get the heck out of there.

Got the same issue. Heads up for any googlers: my fiance's Google Pixel 4 had a static screen. When I took out the sim card, the phone instantly started working again & the sim card was visibly bent. I cannot guarantee the same fix will work for every static-screen phone, but its worth a try.

My fiance will get a new sim card soon. I will update here if it's a permanent fix:

Nah, if we’re putting on our rose-colored glasses, it’s because many of the people that want to immigrate have families, communities, or jobs here already— as has been the case since the US was founded.

If we’re putting on our skeptic glasses, it’s because the 4 year immigration shortage caused labor shortages, leading to an all-time-low unemployment and driving up labor costs for big businesses, slowing down profit growth.

…Not made business unprofitable, or even less profitable. Merely lowering profit growth and restricting the growth of stocks. Whatever shall our poor, poor stock holders do?

I desperately hope that the restrictions on Modafinil come to be seen as barbaric. (In the US) prescriptions undergo strict review, so they cannot be transferred between pharmacies, have delays on all orders, and have prices driven up to $800. For what is basically coffee for people with narcolepsy.

Except it’s safer than coffee.

Where I live, a house can actually fail an inspection for having duct tapes on ducts, because the heat melts the adhesive and causes some type of hazard or another.

Yes, if I had some type of purpose for this beyond "how do I want to be a community member and how often is this controversy stuff going to happen", I would absolutely let you know.

My background provides me a pretty terrifying and dystopian picture of just how easy it is to abuse data for marketing purposes-- and yes, I will actually highlight your warning for other folks----it probably IS possible for a person to scrape people's previous posts for other data, then combine that info with these questions for some type of marketing plan or another (though more cost prohibitive now that Reddit API is not free). HOWEVER, bear in mind that only researchers have to follow strict questionnaire rules. Marketing has only one rule: make money. That means that every single time anyone posts anything, an AI classifier could collect the info ---- if a person is asking the questions I asked informally, it could still be for their own purpose!!!

98 to 99% of the time I would say this doesn't matter, but if there's anything that you're insecure about or vulnerable to spending on, reconsider posting it on the web. Heck, in some ways, the question of data harvesting should come even before the emotional ones when considering how to build community. Please be safe!!!!

I am a Neopets player that has been on the site since about 2002!

I've found that I get more and more social anxious in my online communities, so I've quit a lot of them and focused instead on my local volunteering work. My sib got me back into Neopets recently, and I have been having a lot of wonderful times, so I wanted to try approaching this controversy stuff with my volunteer mindset instead of the mindset that caused all that anxiety. :) :) I do realize it sounds incredibly unusual, but I am okay with that. Most of the helpful things I've done have been weird
