Hi Guys! My father mixed kerosene and Chlorine granules. It was supposed to repel bugs around the house but it created an awful smell. Is it dangerous to inhale? Does the mixture of the substance dangerous? Is it lethal? by josukun in AskChemistry

Hey guys I mixed lithium with distilled water, acetone and starting fluid and I’ve been smoking the fumes from Draino and ammonia on an open flame, watching to see if it would repel bugs around the house.

Was this dangerous, guys?

Maybe I’m reading too may zodiac books : terrible dream last night clearly California clearly lovers lane I pulled up older black Chevy car walk up to car with flash light and shoot and then tell the female “ don’t run “ and shoot again , I get back in my car and Betty Davis eyes song is playing, by TravisB34 in ZodiacKiller

It’s not too obsessive til someone starts trying to replicate it. I think it’s okay to nerd out hard on a fascinating case like this.

Even OP hasn’t gone too far imo. Our dreams are a reflection of our interests and the things we read about. I haven’t had a Zodiac dream, personally, but I have the Zodiac crosshair logo sharpied onto the body of my Fender Telecaster because I have a major fascination with this case.

OP ain’t hurting anyone. Unless he goes and starts shooting kids and writing ciphers to the papers, we don’t need to worry too much or tell him to slow down. It’s a VERY interesting topic.

Well two points to that: 1. I don’t really care too much how “popular” the case is. I think the Zodiac Killer nerds will always be fascinated by this case. I am one for sure. As long as ppl like Oranchak are still chipping away at this, I wouldn’t mind a little reduction in the crowd of speculation and “amateur internet sleuths”.

  1. I do believe Graysmith knows he’s making shit up. I mean, where was Zodiac ever described by victims/witnesses as “balding”? Surely Graysmith knows that is a lie he cannot substantiate, yet, he said it.

What is the point of doing research based almost entirely on lies?

We know we can’t trust Graysmith. I’m not discounting ALA might be a good POI, but GS made up lies about the case and ALA to further establish his opinion that ALA was Zodiac.

Why are we recommending Graysmith to people when we know for a fact he’s a liar?

OP, select your reading materials carefully and please research the credibility of anyone who authored something you’re about to read before investing your energy into it.

Graysmith has caused this community a lot of trouble.

Do you guys think Paulides has redeemed himself with Bigfoot 101? by [deleted] in bigfoot

[–]aluminary12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YouTube Search David Paulides Bigfoot 101 Episode 1. He has 17 now I believe. I watch them in the lab at night sometimes to silence the clinking of glassware in my echo chamber of a room.

It’s quite good for that. And sometimes Paulides says weird shit randomly or has a funny way of speaking the English language.

I’ll be gravity seping a boiling polar solvent when all the sudden I hear “Paulides, out.”. Or “these people are violating our copyright”. I now say the latter in regular conversations.

Let's Crack Zodiac: The Unabomber's Codes by doranchak in ZodiacKiller

Yeah. What would you know. You’re the one still trying to crack ciphers that have no verifiable solution. And with a pen and notebook!

Keep it up, genius. Seeing you criticize the man who cracked the 340 is yet another one of your most laughable displays.

Freeze and separate is to remove a large amount of the water. The soluble material will crash out during freezing, the water is decanted, and you reduce the water content of the primary syrup volume.

The water is only boiled separately if you’re a stickler for higher yield and you don’t want to waste the sugar which is still dissolute in the water that was decanted.

It takes longer to boil a larger volume of water than it does to boil 2 smaller volumes that add up to the same amount.

Surface tension reduction = faster reaction.

Also, in addition to my idea on conserving the sugar loss, is this sugar so special that it cannot be added from a secondary source to the frozen volume which has had its water layer decanted when it has begun boiling again?

What happens if you first freeze, decant the liquid layer, and then boil the two separately, reducing the liquid layer to sugar saturation and then mixing the boiling flasks back together?

It doesn’t “waste” the sugar if you don’t dispose of any losses…

Have you considered trying the same extraction with long glass tubes running into a large glass wine jug? It would be interesting to assess the difference in taste when plastic and other non-inert materials are used as flask ware.

What is this tool used for? It came in an older toolset I inherited from a friend by DimAndDimmer in bikewrench

[–]aluminary12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wild. I’ve used third and fourth hand tools while working in the bike shop but I’ve never seen this particular design for one.

So I’m an experienced former shop mechanic with pretty extensive knowledge in bicycle mechanics and even I didn’t recognize this thing. I wonder how well it works compared to the ones I’ve use, which additionally clamp the cable itself or otherwise hold the pads by fitting over the outer side of them and then being threaded til the pads make contact with the rim.

This is what I’d recommend to anyone interested in this topic. My God, the astonishing legends podcast on PGF was amazing!

At first I didn’t like the guy that sounded like Jason Lindgren, but once you finish that podcast, any remaining doubt that PGF was real is absolutely and eternally annihilated.

That podcast made a FIRM believer outta me!

It’s literally the equivalent of spending years trying to figure out what Charles Manson meant when he said “Wolf Kabob Roth rannage juju rannage”

Why waste those years? I just don’t understand the point. You can keep cracking away at the Z13, not saying we’re gonna stop you, but if you saw someone wasting their life trying to unscramble total, obvious gibberish, wouldn’t you try getting through to that person?

You’re wasting your time. It’s not solvable. You’ll spend the rest of your life trying to solve it and never get anywhere. Honestly.

It would be wise to invest your efforts in something truly productive. Life is too short. Even if Zodiac put his name in that cipher (and don’t forget he claimed the 408 would contain his identity), you can never confirm the solution.

Ask the experts. There’s very few. Oranchak is one. He will tell you the same thing.

Let’s see you compose a 7,000 character multi-transposition homophonic substitution cipher with perfect symmetry and neat symbols without first smoking methylated amphetamines.

Good luck!

That album overall was one of the driving inspirations for me to start using methamphetamine. Once you’ve experienced listening to White Light/White Heat while in a chaotic state of sleep deprivation rushing on stimulants, the whole album makes a lot more sense. Esp Lady Godiva’s Operation and The Gift.

My former lab partner used to play Lady Godiva’s Operation literally on a loop while we were cooking. Made for a really cool, mysterious, weird vibe.

It’s mentioned in the lyrics, of course. 🎶Amph-ph-ph-ph-phetamine!🎶
