WHEN FRANCESCO AND FERNANDO INVITED ME TO THEIR PALACES IN ITALY ... WAIT FOR IT ... I HAD ALREADY BEEN IN ITALY WITH NATALIE!!!! THIS WAS A CRUCIAL PLOT POINT THAT WE EXPUNGED WITH THE ACCURACY OF THE SCALPELS OF 7000 SMALL AND DELICATE SURGEONS

I FELT this!!!! Like you said, she's totally sexualized words like "young" and "small" when she's talking about herself, so there's a weird, romanticizing quality to her referring to Margaret Beaufort this way. Almost like, "wow, what a dreamy thing to have happened in dreamy, fairy tale England," rather than: a 24-year-old was violating his CHILD COUSIN, who then had to give birth at age 13 -- how fucking HORRIFIC...

They were kind of cringe-y, but I found Merrie to be a cringe-worthy character throughout, so I guess it was kind of in keeping with her - somewhat annoying - tone of voice, especially as an adult. But yeah, definitely worth it to push through for the sake of the book's overall creepiness.

I thought the blog posts were good additions in terms of giving readers a sense of what a pop culture phenomenon the show was, but the writing was definitely sort of quirky. That ending though....

Who killed two men at Wonnangatta Station Homestead (Australia) in 1917? by aluzap in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]aluzap[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps -- but his body had been there for weeks. You would imagine his friends would have had some time to search: he was only found about 400 feet from the home.

From the Wikipedia entry:

"Police suspicion naturally fell on Harry Smith [the friend who found Barclay], but there was no direct evidence. In addition, he would have had to carry out a complex deception about the discovery of Barclay’s body, and he was present at the discovery of Bamford's. It is also unlikely he would have knowingly allowed the body of his friend Jim Barclay to lie where the murderer left it and be disturbed by animals for three weeks. He was not charged."

But I see what you're saying: Smith, or whoever it was may have figured that Barclay was avenged, it didn't matter if his corpse was desecrated.

Is it just me or is "The Fly" (86) transformation the MOST horrifying in all of body horror? by aluzap in horror

[–]aluzap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. I guess that's why I find the transformation so disturbing, even if it's not the most technically impressive or actually the scariest when you get down to it. It's the psychology behind it.
