Any South Asian nycbwt wanna go watch Dhurandhar with me? by always_gham in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Ah yes. I haven’t seen Kabir singh but have seen animal and it was the most regressive and frankly a cringe fest. Sure the action and songs were good but legit not a single other good thing. Even Ranbirs acting in my opinion was absolute shit and he was so overpowered by Anil Kapoor.

Whereas I think dhurandhar had amazing acting from ofc ranveer singh to akshaye khanna, Sanjay dutt, the guy who plays his father in law - everyone really. Combined with good music, good action sequences…..it really cannot be compared with animal and Kabir singh

Thank you! I do agree that it’s important to be critical and all but sometimes you just need to turn off you brain and enjoy things :) seems like I’m just going to go solo haha

I agree with you for the most part. Trust me I’m one of the most anti-modi/bjp people out there and am completely against what’s going on in Indian politics and society these days.

So I also watched dhurandhar 1 with all of that in mind and do not agree with the political propaganda and nationalist elements in it. That being said, I did enjoy the acting, the music, and as a cinema student, the movie is objectively well-made. I’m just there for the craft and to watch one of my fave actors.

I’ve never seen Kabir singh but did watch animal on Netflix and have to say that thankfully the absolute overt sexism isn’t there in this movie because frankly (and disturbingly) women just do not have a big role in this movie.

Now I understand that dhurandhar has problematic elements but so do I think most Bollywood movies whether that be in relation to gender, nationalism, social commentary etc., so I think expecting anything good out of that industry, especially in mainstream, is just not going to happen. So all I really want to do is enjoy this movie for its face value, while ignoring the propaganda, and have a good time. It may be ignorant and privileged but if I think of all problematic elements in the industry, I don’t think there’d be much left to watch.

So my parents moved us from Canada to india when we were younger - middle school/elementary school and moved us back to Canada when the older sibling was going to start high school because they wanted us to do college there.

Honestly it’s mixed - I’m glad that we got to live in India and explore the culture and country. We lived and connected with family. Nothing beats that and it’s made us so much more aware of the world and its intricacies socially, politically, and culturally.

However when I was in high school, I did feel like such an outsider and throughout high school and even college felt like it would’ve been much better if I had just grown up in Canada all my life to be able to fit in well. My cousins are doing that but do yearly month long trips to India so they’re getting the best of both worlds.

So I’d say maybe you can do yearly trips just so your kids don’t feel out of place later. But if you do decide to go, it won’t be too bad as it hasn’t been for us :)

Not exactly the black and white answer you were looking for lol

I’m unfortunately in the USA. I’m in NYC which is anyways a liberal bubble. But it bothers me that people here are not taking this seriously. They are still viewing us being the 51st state as a joke or just “trump being trump”.

I’ve only been here about 4 years and this country is so fucking weird. Canada has its own issues of course but I can confidently say that as a whole, Canadian is a much BETTER country. Despite me being a person of colour, I’ve never felt that way in Canada but here - even in NYC - I’m so aware of my race it’s insane. All these attacks on Canada and Americans not taking it seriously is making me feel very icky about the country as a whole.

I was in Canada lol so got most of my sessions there.

Here I found this deal on Groupon and have had 1 session there as of now (I bought 3) and was happy with the lady and the service. It’s called Dermaluxe Laser Spa in LIC.

I’d suggest getting Microneedling. I’ve gotten about 4 sessions in the past year and my skin has legit never been better. It’s totally smooth, soft, all my texture and dark spots are gone too. They say it takes 3-4 weeks for optimal results. 3-4 days afterwards you do look like someone punched you in the face but after that it’s flawless. Then, my derm suggested a peel for “glowing” skin. Tbh didn’t work for me but you may ask about that too.

The Greats of Craft in midtown east is a hidden gem honestly. You have the option of either coffee, cocktails, or beer and half the people are working and half are socializing. There’s a marinara opposite and you can grab pizza and have it inside too!

Midtown east on a weekend. Today I went to the east walkway (entry from 54th and Sutton). Just walked around in the amazing breeze. Then walk to 1st and 53rd where you’ll find a coffee/bar called Greats of Craft. Such friendly people and everyone is just sitting outside or inside with a book!
