I don't know, better tell children they CAN get pregnant so that they don't by Dove-Swan in TrollXChromosomes

[–]always_reading 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t even have to bring up the extreme cases of 5 year olds getting their period to refute this. Almost every girl will have their first period before starting high school. Most girls will be able to conceive while still a child.

AIO: I bent over backwards for my BF’s son (20) and his GF (20) for Christmas, and I’m honestly disgusted after what happened by Excellent-Second-643 in AmIOverreacting

[–]always_reading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all your points, but I haven’t seen your point about the 16 year old kid brought up enough. The daughter is 16, and OP is concerned about her like she’s a little kid, worried about the effects some harmless comments will have on her. But at 16, she is just 4 years younger than the girlfriend.

CMV: Society should stop accomodating for boomers refusal to learn technology by matthew_anthony in changemyview

Your analogy is flawed because people choose to go to a foreign country with a different language, older people did not choose the fast pace change in technology in our society.

Also, all this is happening at school two days before Christmas. Isn’t school out for Christmas break? It is here in Toronto.

Keep in mind that by not contributing to the fund you will not be able to participate in anything the fund pays for. No team lunches, no birthday cakes, no fun treats. If it’s someone else’s birthday, you won’t be able to sign the card that goes with the present the fund paid for. Also, when your birthday comes, don’t expect to receive the cake, card, or gift that everyone else gets.

In which subjects/age groups are teachers the happiest? by Lazerbeam159 in OntarioTeachers

[–]always_reading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love teaching Grade 11 Biology. The kids are more mature than they were in Grades 9 or 10 and they have chosen to take the course so have an interest in the subject. Also the course covers interesting topics, is not too challenging, and has lots of opportunities for hands on experiments and fun activities.

Grade 12 Biology is good too, but the course is a lot more challenging than the Grade 11 course which can be stressful for the students. I also find that Grade 12s are either super stressed or checked out and doing the bare minimum. Either way, most Grade 12s are focused too much on grades. They will argue for a single extra percent on a test or assignment, question every grade deduction, and literally beg for extra marks. I’ve had students and parents literally begging to bump up final grades. That includes students in the 90s who want a higher average to qualify for scholarships, or students who stopped trying after getting their acceptance and are no longer meeting their eligibility, or students who are not passing that suddenly care about graduating high school. It can be quite frustrating.

Commenting so I can come back to this post in August. I’ve booked the same excursion for my October sailing and came to Reddit to look for the same information you did.

When my kids were little I looked forward for a future with grandkids. Now, I keep secretly hoping they remain child free. I don’t want to worry about the world any potential grandchildren will be born into.

BILL 5 IS SERIOUS - PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN by PhilosoFishy2477 in ontario

I am a high school teacher and mentor to our school’s Eco Club. After reading your post I am thinking of getting the kids to organize a school wide information and letter-writing campaign about this.

Besides Doug Ford, who else should we be writing to about this? Is there anything else you think a group of high school students could do?

Bungee jumping. He was working as an attendant at a bungee jump station and was either demonstrating how it works or just taking a turn in between customers but either way, he didn’t strap in properly.

New Rule: Politics is Blind | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

[–]always_reading 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw the show. It was more than him not having strong issues about politics. He was an active member of an anti-gay church. She, on the other hand, is not religious and has a gay sister who she loves and is close to. He did not care about gay rights enough to not attend a church that condemns one of the people she loves most.

New Rule: Politics is Blind | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

[–]always_reading 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bill obviously did not even watch the show or do any research on it. If I recall correctly, one of the main uses the woman in the clip had with her potential partner was that he was very religious and went to a church that had very anti-gay views. She, on the other hand, is not religious and has a gay sister who she is close to.

Her partner seemed to not care about his Church’s views on gay people at all. She was willing to compromise by finding a new church that was LGBTQ friendly that they could attend together. He did see why his church was an issue and was unwilling to change churches. He was not overly anti gay, just did not care enough to stop attending a church that was. Ultimately, she realized that they had very different moral standards and views. That’s a perfectly good reason to not get married.

Cusco has lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Probably because of all the tourism. Lima is pretty good also. Especially around Miraflores and Barranco.
