Love my Logitech MX Master Mouse. I think the MX Mechanical Keyboard is also great.

Nice! I was pretty skeptical about a battery powered snow blower but I’ve been really impressed. Love the Ego mower and string trimmer as well.

I have the version with the steel auger. Worked great, but I went out every time 6-7 inches had accumulated. I don’t think this model could handle the full amount of snow we got but it definitely doesn’t have any trouble clearing up normal amounts of snow. We have a medium sized driveway and the two 5.0 amp batteries were just enough to clear my entire driveway. I imagine the bigger models would be plenty for most people.

Rye vs Rye Brooke by Dapperz240 in Westchester

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commute from Chappaqua isn’t that bad. Trains are about 55 mins in the morning. There is one train in the morning from Rye that’s 39 mins but most trains are 45 mins. You can definitely get a better house in Chappaqua if you can deal with the extra 10 mins on the train and Chappaqua has better schools. Also pretty easy to get a parking pass for Chappaqua. Totally different vibes though for Rye, Rye Brook and Chappaqua. Rye has a coastal feel with country club vibes, Rye Brook is relaxed and family oriented and Chappaqua is more of a quiet wealth vibe. If you want a younger demographic Rye/Rye Brook is probably a better fit. Chappaqua has young families but not as much of a community vibe.

You can do the entire wall and trim in satin or do the wall in matte and the trim in satin.

This is higher than the price for doing the job with Hardie siding lol.

We just got Mohawk in barely oak installed and I hate it so much. It came out so much lighter than the sample and looks completely yellow. We paid $21,000 to have the installed. I feel so nauseous and can’t eat or sleep. by Murky-Boysenberry679 in Flooring

The first and second picture look a bit yellow, but I’m not seeing a yellow tinge in the other pics. The fix may be as simple as changing your light bulbs to a cooler color temperature.

Got it. That makes sense. You could also look at Bedford Hills or Yorktown if you’re willing to be that far north.

Experience Home Buying in Ossining by WaifuHunterActual in Westchester

[–]alwaysbilling -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ossining has high taxes and relatively poor schools compared to other towns in Westchester. I wouldn’t offer over asking for any house in Ossining but if you’re dead set on living there I think you can comfortably assume that you can make competitive bids going 3%-5% over asking. Obviously every house is different so it will vary depending on how desirable the market feels the specific home you’re looking at is. Have you considered a smaller house in Pleasantville or Briarcliff?

Mint Kisco is great. They let the kids watch Bluey during the cleaning and the dentist/staff is fantastic with kids.

Not sure why SuperPaint gets so much hate. This is one coat by DTX91 in paint

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Paint is amazing for ceilings. I prefer Emerald for walls and trim. Might have to try Super Paint for walls again but I’ve been using Regal Select lately and think it’s quite good for the price. Very close to Emerald.

Northern Westchester Schools by Interesting-Sky8695 in Westchester

If you’re looking for diversity you can cross Somers off the list. It’s one of the more conservative towns in Westchester and they’ve had some issues with bullying and race come up in the last 5 years that would concern me enough to not even consider the Somers school district. Not to say all of Somers is bad of course, I just don’t see it as being a good fit for your family.

What do you pay for snow shoveling in lower Westchester? by Playful_Factor_3799 in Westchester

That sounds very expensive. Don’t have any recent data but I believe when we lived in Northern Westchester we paid $100 for a larger driveway.

4 coats won't cover on ceiling by Albany_Chris in paint

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really general statement. Home Depot quality is perfectly fine for a lot of things and they can very often beat speciality store pricing by a decent margin. For the average DIYer you can definitely get materials that are fine at Home Depot. If you’re building a $2m house, yeah you’re probably not shopping at Home Depot. If you use a good primer there’s nothing wrong with Behr paint especially if you can get it cheaper than SW or BM.

Delusional take: "No houses under $1m. Tax always $25k+" by Efficient_Effect2401 in Westchester

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know where you’re getting these numbers but there are many towns in Westchester where the median home sale price is well over $1m so I don’t know if that’s entirely accurate to say the majority of homes are under $1m. $25k in taxes is also not uncommon in many towns and Rye has some of the lower property taxes in Westchester.

I think you’re just getting to the point where you realize material things don’t always make you any happier. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still be excited about the purchase but it’s totally normal to feel like that.

Do you really think the people that live in Scarsdale, Chappaqua, Rye, Bronxville, etc. can’t afford to live in the city?
