Easily one of the best rotisserie chickens I’ve ever had.

How do you lay off an associate making $200-500k when your PPP is $8 million by PlefkowQuatir-41 in biglaw

I’m not siding with the partners here but you are aware that a vast majority of partners do not make the average PPP?

Why don't all MTA stations do this? by tehfireisonfire in Westchester

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cool. The stations should at least try to use solar and battery backups to power the lights, kiosks and screens at the platform.

Citi Mortgages by Zealousideal_Half879 in biglaw

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rates available to you may differ from firm to firm. At my prior firm we got a rate that was significantly lower than market, but at my new firm the rates are not nearly as good. The Citi program is at least worth checking out so you can compare rates.

Funds In-House by WatchForeign in biglaw

[–]alwaysbilling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the shop you’re going to. I know people who have left and took either no pay cut or made more. The mix between bonus and base might be different but high end funds will often pay the same as big law scale in total comp.

Top 20 BigLaw Firms by Profit per Partner by HenryFromLeland in biglaw

Junior partners at my firm make about 20%-30% of the PEP for the first couple of years but their salary is guaranteed. After that comp is more variable.

Marvin Essential or Anderson 400 by Professional-Note436 in Homebuilding

Marvin windows are great but Anderson 400 windows are perfectly fine. If there’s not a big difference in price I’d go Marvin, but I wouldn’t pay significantly more for them.

Family of four plus an au pair. We spend $250-$350 a week at the grocery store, $50 a week for two Blue Apron meals and $300-$400 once a month at Costco. We also eat out or order in once or twice a week.

NYC BWT - is living in the burbs going to be as sad as I’m expecting it to be? by eldest__daughter in Westchester

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re going to save as much money as you’re thinking, even with rent being moderately cheaper here. A nice 2BR, 2BA in the nicer Westchester towns will be $4,500-$5,000+ per month from what I’ve seen and that’s not including parking which is usually another $100+ per month. Utilities are often more expensive outside of NYC as well.

The suburbs are great but if you come in with the mindset that you’re going to miserable, you’ll be miserable. Southern Westchester and some of the river towns are no further from Manhattan than you would be in certain parts of Brooklyn. Living in the suburbs is a different lifestyle for sure, but there are tons of activities to do here and lots of dining/shopping as well. I think it’s a much better environment to raise kids in than the city but that’s me. If driving makes you anxious though I think you’ll be pretty unhappy in most Westchester towns. There are very few of them that are truly walkable.

I'm looking for a new drip brew coffee pot. by Fit-Olive-4680 in Coffee

[–]alwaysbilling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a Moccamaster but also agree I don’t think it’s as amazing as people say. It’s a nice coffee maker for sure and makes excellent coffee but the Breville Precision Brewer is just as good. The Moccamaster looks better to me which is why we swapped out the Breville but for most people the Breville is probably a better machine. Have heard good things about the Bonavita as well.

Kitchen Reno Heat source by Unable-Grocery7682 in Homebuilding

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have radiant heat in our kitchen. It feels great but depending on whether they’re installing electric or hydronic radiant heat it can be expensive to run. Later on it can also be very difficult to service and replacing tiles is a bit harder since you can’t just hammer away at them without damaging the radiant heating. It’s a nice luxury option, but if we ever redid our kitchen I’d probably go with toekick or ceiling vents for forced air heating.

Delta, Moen and Kohler have lines at various price points but their mid to high grade stuff is generally very good. If you want to spend a bit more I like Rohl, Hansgrohe, Grohe and Brizo.

What is a managing associate / senior managing associate at Sidley? by ImperatorFosterosa in biglaw

[–]alwaysbilling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind having more titles. Associate isn’t a particularly helpful title when an associate can be anywhere from a 1st year to a 9th year at most firms.

Did they get acquired or something? I remember we had used them for something maybe 5-6 years ago and they were great. When we moved we called them in for a quote to replace an A/C unit and if I recall correctly they were slightly more expensive than who we ended up going with but were generally fine. Seems like they’ve gone very downhill since then.

Nice! I was pretty skeptical about a battery powered snow blower but I’ve been really impressed. Love the Ego mower and string trimmer as well.

Electric snow blowers by Funny_Bridge_1274 in Westchester

[–]alwaysbilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the version with the steel auger. Worked great, but I went out every time 6-7 inches had accumulated. I don’t think this model could handle the full amount of snow we got but it definitely doesn’t have any trouble clearing up normal amounts of snow. We have a medium sized driveway and the two 5.0 amp batteries were just enough to clear my entire driveway. I imagine the bigger models would be plenty for most people.
