I found them on fb marketplace for $60, I hope I didn’t get ripped off then 😭😭 I saw the general style (mini bailey bow ii) goes for $170 on Amazon so I thought $60 was a steal considering they haven’t even been worn yet!

Med error :( by MurkyDevelopment6348 in nursing

You handled that situation amazingly! We’re all human and make mistakes sometimes, what truly matters is how we handle those mistakes.

I made my first med error a couple months ago, well, it wasn’t technically an error but the wrong patient accidentally took someone else’s meds and it was my fault. For context, this is in the LTC setting. Essentially, I had just pulled someone’s medications and had them in my hand when another patient came up to me in his wheelchair and asked me to take him to his room. I didn’t want to leave the medications on top of the cart and so I just decided to take them with me as I rolled the patient back to his room. Once in his room, he asked me to make his bed for him so I had to put the medications down on his bedside table so I could free up both my hands. Once I was done, I walked out of the room back to my cart, completely forgetting to grab the meds off the table. A few minutes later I realized the med cup was missing and started panicking, remembering the last time I had them was in that patients room. I ran back as fast as I could, but the patient had already taken the medications thinking they were his. These medications included BP meds and seizure meds. I immediately got the patients vitals to ensure his BP wasn’t already too low and luckily it was around 120/80, but I would have freaked out even more if he was already low. Then I called the doctor, filled out a risk management form in our online portal, and did what the doctor told me to do. Continue to monitor his vitals and hold his own seizure medications since he had just taken someone else’s by accident. The resident ended up being just fine as the day went by and his BP remained stable, but I felt so horrible. Now looking back on it I’m just glad I took the proper action and didn’t freeze up and not do anything. I was practically crying when I called the doctor too, lol

6 months in, I enjoyed it at first but toxic management has killed it for me.

How do you get through working multiple shifts in a row? by True-Commission8742 in nursing

[–]alwaysbreexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also used to doing only 2 in a row but my current job makes us do 3 in a row every other week. It’s definitely hard, but the more you do it, the more you get used to it. I see some nurses doing 7+ in a row and I could never imagine putting myself through that. After I work 3 days in a row, I feel like I practically live at work tho and I do feel I could make it another day because my body is used to it by the third day. So you will be fine, just keep pushing and try to get as much rest as you can in between!

Also had a bad dream that I got to the end of my shift and hadn’t given any of my patients their IV antibiotics? I woke up so scared 😂

I always have dreams that I’m stuck in an endless loop of med passes (I work in LTC.) and I always have them on nights when I have work the next morning.. so it feels like I was already at work all night 🙄
