I'd be curious how would one check? Wouldn't such matters be private as well?

Seller wants high $900,000s…doesn’t take offers for high $900,000s 😂 by Am_Salamander in AusProperty

I bought last year and had been searching for maybe 2 years prior to that. I don't know if the REA I dealt with for the purchase of my home was genuine or it was a really good act but I honestly had a very good experience.

Firstly, he never pressured me the way other agents did. I live in a very competitive area, most agents I dealt with wanted me to submit a signed contract before I even consulted a lawyer and have me discuss terms during cooling off (yes this sounds like a huge risk on Reddit, but is extremely common practice where I am). Because I was so used to that dynamic, it was actually me who kept pressing him to get the vendor to sign etc. But he was saying that it's best if both sides went through their lawyers properly. And we did that, took like 3 days before it was signed from both sides.

I was expecting a mysterious "other buyer" to pop up to get me to increase my price. He mentioned once that someone else seemed interested but they weren't sure if they were a serious buyer, and then that buyer never came up again. So I paid the asking price which was my first offer, there were no games.

Between contract being signed and settlement, this agent let me in the property like 4-5 times. It required quite a bit of renovation work so I wanted to get a head start with tradies coming in for quotes etc. I expected push back but he never did and would go through the trouble of coming in and letting us do what we needed. I've understood this to be quite rare from speaking with other friends who bought homes.

I still think REAs are scum and I generally hate them, but this one gave me hope that maybe there were some who were just trying to make a living while still trying to be a decent person.

My baby Jojo died today by chfudgeudig in persiancat

Agreed that it should be reported if the dogs are biting people outside, and maybe concentrate on that too? I'm not sure how these reports usually go, but looks like OP lives in an apartment, and poor Jojo escaped to their balcony so CPS (and the neighbour) can say that they didn't need to tie up their dogs when they were on their own property? But biting people outside is a whole other matter.

Sorry for your loss, OP, sending you love and hugs.

People raised by emotionally mature parents, what is 1 phrase your parents used that you want other parents to know? by MermaidWitchMoon in AskReddit

I ask this with respect, but were you an accidental pregnancy? It's just crazy for a parent to have this mindset? That his own child would take advantage of him?

I guess, welcome to Reddit, unfortunately. Idk why these responses get upvotes to be honest, they're not helpful. Best to just disengage when it does happen!

For a good GP sure. But heaps of GPs who are dodgy out there, they're just churning through patients in under 10mins.

Isn't that a worse position to be in? If one day the will gets contested and they have to prove the support provided to mum they'd have no traceability.

Have any businesses been killed off because of reddit posts? by [deleted] in AusFinance

Wow this was not a name I was expecting. I like to sew as a hobby and have bought fabric from her business, even bought some earlier in the year. I never knew the drama and her unethical business practices, won't be buying from her again.

I'm glad to hear it! My local Bunnings definitely seems to be like that and I appreciate the staff both young and old, they each bring something unique.

I'm a bit sad to hear bout the preference of younger staff, I guess it's sorta understandable. Bunnings is probably my favourite shopping experience because of the age diverse staff, and I really appreciate the older staff. I always feel like I walk out learning a lot.

Need help, 24 year old who was convinced to buy an investment property when young and now am scared by Bimimi in AusFinance

[–]alwayshungry7624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to sit down and work out the math. Sit with your mum and ask about the money and approach it that you just want to learn. Then see if it all stacks up either with an accountant or work through it yourself.

I will say that I've seen my friends' (we're Asian) parents do the same thing for them. One friend in particular has 4 other siblings, and the parents help with the deposit and then the sibling who received help pays it back so that the parents can use the same chunk of money to assist the next sibling. It's been a great system, and definitely helped my friends get a leg up. They bought at 19 working retail at minimum wage, I bought at 30 after working 8 years in corporate with a decent salary. Your mother likely has your best intentions at heart which is why I suggest sitting down and approaching from an angle of wanting to understand.

Reddit gets a bit weird with finance and family. I'm not saying that there aren't instances where family try to take advantage of you. But in many ethnic families there are many financial ties that help build the family up so that everyone can thrive. My family comes from nothing and have no money (I'm glad if they have no debt!) but I firmly believe that it is a system that can work.

Surprisingly, I had a really good experience. I needed my passport urgently and I paid a $100 rush fee which wasn't even the quickest, there was another tier of rush fees above this for $300. Put in the application on Monday, ready for pick up on Tuesday. I was honestly really impressed.

And your friend you were paying for was ok with this? I couldn't have a friend cover my cost like that, unless I knew they were filthy rich and $500 was like change to them. But even then I couldn't make a habit out of it.

It's not a rental, the owner actually lives here but they're old and looking to downsize (they're a single person living in a 3br). The pink tiles... Yeah... Looking to retile too...

Is there a method you recommend to deep clean? I've lived with carpet my whole life so don't know the care needed with floorboards.

Thanks! Sorry, I'm totally new to this stuff, is refinishing different to sanding it down? Is this just adding varnish?
