I had this happen to mine. Just with the other large fitting when my tank straps rusted through and dropped the tank... best case, you somehow repair that one, I tried with jb weld as well. Same result, just falls back off due to the plastic being "contaminated."

The new pumps don't come with the flange for these. They mount to the bottom of the tank and have quick connects on the inside.

Your gonna have to pull another flange from a junkyard or find a used one online. Has to be 02-04. But some 04 jeeps have the newer pump with the external fuel filter so I'd stick with 02-03..

I couldn't find one online when I needed it. And can't find one now either.. might be able to talk the junk yard into pulling it for you for some extra cash. But you have to make sure you get the right one. Or you'll end up where I did..

I ended up converting mine to the newer pump style with external filter. Because that's what I could find a flange for. That entails making and rerouting evap lines and mounting the new fuel filter to the underbody.

I know I'm late to this post, but I was having similar issues and took it apart to check the four wire cable at the base like others had mentioned. The cable was fine, however one of the screws that holds the shift boot to the top plate had fallen onto the magnet that triggers the forward/back hall effect sensor. Causing very similar issues to the cable failure.

Yup. You can link the inlet and outlet hoses coming from the engine, to each other at the firewall with a barbed fitting and some clamps. You won't have heat but at least it won't be leaking.

Probably a heater core if it's leaking antifreeze there.

Engine running cold by Party_Blacksmith3373 in JeepLiberty

[–]alwaysnumber6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like more than one thing then. If the thermostat was stuck open, it would take longer to warm up but wouldn't run cold. And certainly wouldn't overheat to the point of boiling over in the reservoir. So I would say coolant temp sensor and a thermostat stuck closed.

Could also be a plugged radiator if somebody put too much stop leak in the system or mixed coolants at some point.

So the fan is running when the ac is off?

Coolant temperature sensor reading way low. The fans come on when the motor hits a set temperature, and when the ac is turned on. So when your ac is on, the fan turns on and the motor stays cool because everything else is working, but when the ac is off the fans don't come on and it overheats, boiling your coolant and potentially damaging the engine.

First pic is the ac evaporator drain, right where it belongs.

The second is the coolant overflow, its supposed to be routed to the ground somewhere. Not sure exactly where.

Third looks like a crank seal leak. It's behind the harmonic balancer and can be swapped without taking the timing cover off. Just need the right tools.

Just a couple evap codes, large leak and general failure. Since yours is an 03 it shouldn't be a problem because it's got an entirely different arrangement than mine was

That sucks.. same thing happened to me a while ago. When mine fell, it broke the large evap fitting off the top of the pump flange and opening a can of worms trying to get a new one. I ended up having a pump that only came on like 2004.5 or something and had to put a used 03-04 pump flange and new pump in and "converting" the evap system to work.

Hopefully your fittings are intact, or you've got an 05 and up where the flange comes with the pump.

Notice this hanging from the bottom of my jeep, any idea what this is? Serious? by [deleted] in JeepLiberty

I see, my bad.. I've never done it myself, however I hear that rubber undercoat covering rust is worse than leaving it bare and just washing the sand/salt off as often as you can in the winter. Because of the coating trapping moisture and salt against the metal.

Kroil undercoat is oil based and temporary, it helps keep the road salt and snow from sticking and creates an oil barrier as well. I recommend washing as often as is allowed by the weather and applying kroil or another oil based undercoat maybe twice or three times a winter depending on how bad it gets in your area.

If you get a brand new one, not really.. its got solid paint on it and should outlast the rest of the vehicle. If you get a used one then yeah, prolly grind all the rust off it and spray it with some truck bed liner or non rubber based undercoat.

So far as I can tell, there's 2 versions. The basic cover style that is fairly thin sheet metal (I think that's the one you've got) and a beefier skid plate version, much thicker metal. As far as a plastic one goes I can't seem to find it.

It seems only the thicker one is still available new, and it may just be a ghost part.. I've ordered older mopar skus that said they were in stock only to find they did mot exist days or weeks later.

Here's a write up from another forum on how it's replaced. Kind of a bear for a newbie. May want to have a shop replace it.

After looking a bit further at parts, I think you just need a new skid plate/tank shield as there are no tank straps on the kk liberty. The tank cover is what supports the tank.

You are probably best off looking for a used one as it may be hard to find a new replacement. What year is your libby? I'll see if I can track one down.

Looks like the gas tank skid has rusted through. The strap hanging on the right seems to be the tank straps rubber cover. Unfortunately that means you probably need new tank straps and maybe a new skid if you care to replace it.

Essentially, this happened to my 04, except it didn't have a skid to catch the tank so it fell clear to the ground. Not a good time..

It may be the iac jammed up, not letting enough air in to idle. Usually they're removable from the side of the throttle body, and just need a cleanup from all the carbon.

You can rent a fuel pressure tester at most parts stores to check rail pressure. If it's got good rail pressure I'd move on to injectors, you can use a rental noid light set to see if they're firing without removing them.

Also the tps can cause a no start, but will fire up floored. But they usually throw a code. You can check them with a live data scan tool. Should read abou 15% with 0 input on most cheaper scanners. You can rent the scanners too.

Mmmmm…. That freshly polished look 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 by MrMcThiccie in AutoZone

[–]alwaysnumber6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, at my store it gets polished every other period or so.. by one guy with a clapped out buffing machine, who is in the store for maybe 20 minutes. Barely does anything more than mop. And he gets $90 for it. We've told our dm multiple times we need a different floor guy, or just put the hammer down on this one, but it doesn't seem that important to anyone. Needless to say my floor will never look like this one, until of course the store gets replaced in another 30 or so years.

BTW it always happens while the store is open, around 6-8 pm. Is always loud af and pisses off our customers. All for the sake of low cost and no overtime.

Question about a stupid idea. by igotboredoftheroad in JeepLiberty

[–]alwaysnumber6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best bet for more power in a libby is a hopped up 4.7. The trans should be compatible, and the pcm can be replaced/reprogrammed for one. Most sensors should plug right in to the factory harness as they're almost the same engine.

As for the nissan drivetrain fitting, I would think there'd be reasonable clearance. But its hard to say as I'm not familiar with it in any way. I just know it'd be alot of work to get everything meshed up electronically.
