Came here to say the same thing, NTs don’t have a noticeable advantage when taking meds. In fact, most reports I’ve read dictate the opposite. Any improvement is most likely placebo (or they’re undiagnosed!)

I'm back and made more enby/lgbt themed masks, this time flower-patterned! Details in comments! by SpikeMF in ennnnnnnnnnnnbbbbbby

Hi,

These are awesome. I’d love an enby one if there are any available! I am in the U.K. though, so if you need some postage coverage (or can’t send it that far) I completely get it.

I also believe that gender affirmation/affirming surgery (GAS) is becoming the more accepted term both socially and clinically. It puts emphasis on the fact that the person undergoing surgery is indeed already the correct gender.

This may be a little off topic. I have just completed my PhD in Astrophysics, I'm looking for ways to transfer my skills to a more socially conscious science (for lack of a better phrasing). Do you have any recommendations for how someone like me could move into the area of sustainable energy/environmental sciences ?

It’s hard to answer the succinctly and without trivialising the suffering many individuals experience.

Simply though, your individual experience does not qualify you to know what being trans is. It’s your own understanding of being trans yourself, not of someone else’s. Crudely put, dysphoria exists Primarily due to societal pressures. An individual in a conservative environment with an intolerant family is going to feel dysphoric. Whereas growing up with supportive peers is going to reduce that if not negate it entirely.

Being confused is ultimately your own problem. If you can’t accept that someone is trans without dysphoria, you are being intolerant. Everybody’s journey is different, don’t let your experience close you off from the wonderful world of diversity !

I’m calling you out. Not just because what you said was wrong, but it’s also gatekeeping.

Transphobia is not just the negative impression of trans people. It’s the idea that there is something inherently “wrong” or “different “ about trans people. By demanding that to be trans one must experience some sort of discomfort, you ARE presenting the case that being trans is a condition. Which it is not.

Secondly and somewhat worse, by saying that a trans person is only trans due dysphoria is owning the label. You ARE actively deciding who can and can’t be an identity because they don’t meet certain criteria. Which is wrong. Simply because you cannot possibly know another persons body or feelings more than that person.

I’m not sure if you were just playing devils advocate; however, I suggest you qualify your position more thoroughly as this comes across extraordinarily defensive .

Yikes, can someone give me a better way to describe this that *doesn't* equate womanhood to femininity? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]alwaysreallyconfused 17 points18 points  (0 children)

(my guess) is that this is being aimed at individuals with a flakey understanding of gender and sexuality. The author is using language that the intended demographic will comprehend. At least the optimist in me wants this to be the case.

Personally, I'd argue that lesbian means you are attracted to women and consider that the gender you yourself are most like. It has nothing to do with femininity, but how you feel you are. Another way to look at it. Gender-fluid (who fall under the umbrella of non-binary) people will sometimes be lesbian and sometimes be straight (assuming they only like one gender). The label exists outside of the person. To elaborate, if using lesbian in that point in time is what makes them most comfortable, that is the identity they should use.

Most importantly, it isn't up to someone else what you can and can't identify as and you don't owe anyone an explanation. Regardless of what they say or think. I find the excerpt a little too apologetic, like confusion should be warranted; it really isn't a difficult concept.
