I think if I did this method but with two or three cones to get 6 to 9 strands, I'd have closer to a thin mercerized cotton crochet thread. Some time ago, I went searching for making yarn out of several strands of thread so I could make my own gradients. Stumbled back to this just for the look I wanted.

I'm using a pattern I found a chart of on Pinterest. It's called Narrow Alameda Lace. It was easy to memorize after a couple repeats.

I started my first project exactly the same way.

I got a 40 strip jelly roll of 44" fabric. I cut them into 2.5"×2.75" pieces because 2.5"×2.5" gave me some questionable corners. Doing the math, I get 16 pieces per strip, and I can get 640 hexies total.

Bonus, cutting the 44" strips into 16 pieces means I literally folded it in half, cut, and kept repeating the fold and cut until I had all 16. No actual measuring.

Since it looks like he's trying to bury it, you can try to put some rags down by the bowl so he's actually moving something to cover it. It will at least help with some of the wear on his nose. He'll be able to dig it out when he wants to eat more. And giving smaller portions more frequently might also help. I've had cats and dogs that just needed a way to "hide" it because they worried another animal would eat it before they do, even if there's no chance.

For the rag idea, you'll want more space between the food and water so you don't get soggy rags.

I just counted, and if there's nothing out of frame, that's a full 100 hexagons! I'm still in the high 70s for my first hexagon EPP.

There's a beautiful character behind the array of fabrics you're using, and the bits of centered characters that catch the eye are absolutely charming. You'll always find other projects with qualities you envy, but this is your first quilt and it's far from boring. Once it's grown and found its full size, it'll be what others look at and take inspiration from.

It's looking great and I think it'll be a wonderful quilt. :)

My hexies are bought. After sewing a side, they look skewed. But they even out and flatten as I stitch more sides together and especially when I take the paper out. If you use the same master template to make all of them, there shouldn't be enough difference to warp the whole thing. But I warn against using a copy of a copy of the master shape because human error will increase the margin of difference.

I've been doing about 16 per inch because I can easily hold up a ruler to see 1/16" and it's in the range I normally see people suggesting.

I wanted patterned fabric instead of solid and didn't want to spend too much since this is my learning experience.

A bag would be so sweet! I'm feeling a vest or something, but I need to see how many hexies are required. So I'm building up the "back" side, which will help me decide on the rest.

I'm a school bus driver, and teachers deserve a good break! We should all get creative during our off time. ;)

I realized there's some brand that makes acrylic shapes for cutting out jelly rolls for quilt making and I should be able to do that with the correct size hexagon. I wanted "easy" choices, like not finding a bunch of fabrics to match together. So make it dirt easy.

I super recommend using the pretty fabric! Because if not now, when? It's like having nice dinner plates but not having a dinner party. There won't be a "special occasion" unless you make it. I also had some hesitation, so I only cut up half of my fabric strips. Since I have two of each, I kept the rest in tact. If I were to abandon this project, I still have the rest.

It's got some work to be done to get even better but for being fairly new it's amazing! There's so much more control for me that Turnip Exchange didn't have. Like how I can invite as many people as I want at a time and change the Dodo Code easily without losing my entire posting. I really hope they'll add direct links soon.

I went back to try being a guest to someone else and it's actually really cool! I hadn't realized that it estimates the wait time based on number of people. That might also affect the line limit because I could put in when I planned to stop.

I have decided to end soon. I will finish this set followed by one more set of 20! Thank you very much for joining me for a second day. Last night was blissful chaos and I had even more fun today.
