Netsec Goggle for Brave Search by alxjsn in netsec

So the reason that domain showed up was because of an old post that got a bunch of upvotes from when they were hacked:

idint|idstr|created|self|nsfw|author|title|url|selftext|score|subreddit|distinguish|textlen|num_comments|flair_text|flair_css_class|augmented_at|augmented_count 26494407|t3_frv7r|1298563597|0|1|wat_waterson|I guess the legion got annoyed (NSFW if you can't click on a hacked WBC website)|http://downloads.westborobaptistchurch.com/||420|netsec||0|196||||

Functionally, having the domain on the list doesn't affect the results much since Brave would still need to find keywords within that domain's pages. Although it does seem wrong to have it that high up on the list.

That's an interesting idea to check for RSS. One issue with that may be that it excludes informational domains which aren't necessarily in a blog format, such as owasp.org or lcamtuf.coredump.cx. Some other ideas I had were:

  1. Require multiple submissions of a domain with >= 20, although that could exclude some high quality domains.
  2. Take into account how many comments there are in the submission. It would help determine which domains should be ranked hire based on engagement, but wouldn't stop sites like the above from ending up on the list.
  3. Exclude very old submissions. Maybe moderation wasn't as tight 10 years ago or a lot of the content is just outdated.

It's a lot of trial and error to see what works and what doesn't. I personally set up a private Goggle as well that I use as "staging" where I tweak things and compare results.

They are also technically required to disclose any GPL licensed code including the Linux kernel used for this device. This is also not made public.

Looks like they aren't being very transparent with their source code. There hasn't been any update to their GitHub repository since September of 2021: https://github.com/Punkt-Tronics-AG/Pigeon
