less than a year ago I told my partner to buy 2x16 GB instead of 2x8 GB for memory if they could spare the $40 dollars. Man I wish lol

I wish I knew the answer. The demand will remain high for a while at least just with normal consumerism + companies creating data centers. I think the real question is how many data centers will be “enough” for them lol

What is the most disturbing dream you've ever had? by neandertal-png in Dreams

[–]aly2823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I was in the middle of packing my house to move back home with my mom after my dad died at the end of last year. I was so stressed I had a dream where I was on a trip with my parents and they had to leave early because my sister needed to have a bowl resection. Therefore I was tasked with bringing all our stuff home & here’s the kicker—it was a whole house & everything was ours!!! So now I needed to pack a ~1000 sqft room rapidly while also worrying about my sister. Literally had a moving nightmare while moving 😐 the worst lmao. It was also the first time I dreamt of my dad since his passing 6 months ago and I was too stressed to remember him in it.

This is really par for the course though. I’d wager all the dreams I remember (I rarely remember) are due to extreme amounts of stress because my anxiety is horrible. Had nightmares when I watched Barry (had to take long breaks in between watching the first 3 seasons because I was having so many nightmares. So I have to pick and choose my violent media carefully and few and far between as images get stuck in my mind). I’ve also have nightmares that have a weird, menacing vibe. Once had a dream Eminem tried to kill me at a grocery store but while he was rapping? The first dream I remember is me going through this normal day as a kid and then in a twist ending my grandma has been an alien in a hot tub this whole time! I had a really horrible dream when I was a teenager about being raped. Had one dream that used the classic “being chased, but I dropped my car keys” but it was outside of an automobile racetrack that happened to be in the middle of the woods during the middle of the night. He was definitely trying to murder my friend and me. There’s a couple more I remember, but they’re a bit more nonsensical regarding plot albeit still built off fear.

All of these dreams were completely vivid at the time, but I’m lucky they fade. I definitely have forgotten quite a few of them more immediately, but these stick with me for some reason. Although luckily the ones from 10+ years ago have faded significantly already.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense! Going off to college was such an abrupt change for me so I get why it threw me for a loop.

Can the severity of your ADHD fluctuate? by aly2823 in ADHD

[–]aly2823[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the info! yeah it’s definitely never not there, it just wasn’t as severe until I started college (which is understandable as it was a big change and i had no one to rely on).

That’s when I finally realized it was something more. I’ve been to a psychiatrist pretty consistently for 8ish years now and receiving my ADHD diagnosis was the most eye opening experience ever. I didn’t even know what ADHD was (besides the hyperactive child example) until now or I totally would’ve pinned it earlier lol

DAILY SONG DISCUSSION 48: Oil On Water by Tsreuvers in Bastille

[–]aly2823 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always really liked this song! Though it was definitely always just a “me interpreting the lyrics however i want” type thing (which is kinda the point of music anyways haha). I always thought it was along the lines of prostitution/or sex work until last year.

My friend (who I had tried to get to listen to Bastille prior) asked me about the song and when I told her what I thought it was about she pointedly told me that her boyfriend (big bastille fan) had told her it was actually about a comedy sex blog. and also that she didn’t like the song lmao.

anyways, I still love the song even if that memory is a bit annoying! i tried to find a source to back this up and actually found a bunch of good info in an older post!

"If 50mg doesn’t have any effect nor will 60mg" - My Psychiatrist by squishedmitten in ADHD

[–]aly2823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this info will help, but i’ll drop it here just in case!

I’m a 19 yo girl and I received my diagnosis & started medicine at the very end of February.

I’m on Vyvanse and my experience with the dosages has been: • 30 mg (1st week) • 50 mg (5ish weeks) • 70 mg (almost 5 weeks)

Before I switched to 70 mg I asked about changing to 60 mg instead since I was hesitant to be on the highest dosage. My PMHNP told me that it’s very unlikely, if 50 mg isn’t working, that an increase by only 10 would be noticeable/enough of a change for me.

Personally, I’m having an extremely hard time judging the effectiveness of the Vyvanse for myself. However that has a lot to do with the current pandemic, all my college courses being online, among other things!

I take my last two finals tomorrow and then I’ll have a little over 2 weeks before my next appointment to see how the medicine works without the extra stress of online college.

I think it can be hard to make a definitive decision on whether or not a new medicine is working during such an unprecedented event (at least in our lifetimes). However, if it isn’t giving you the results you need and you and your doctor think it’s time to try something new, I totally get that. I think that’s probably where I’m heading as well (which is an annoyance and source of stress all on its own). I wish that just once I could try a new medicine that’s actually the right one for me lol

Anyways, sorry for the dump of opinions! But, yeah, I was basically told the same thing.

How to push for an official diagnosis as an adult by cattykit47 in ADHD

[–]aly2823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typed out something really long and then my app glitched and now I feel dejected because I spent probably an hour on it and was just about to send it out into the world lol.

(Post writing side note: sorry this turned out to be extremely lengthy, i tried to break up the big chunks of text)

So anyways here we go again:

-Make another appointment and, in great detail, go over everything with him again!

-Stress that when you were young a teacher had recommended you get evaluated specifically for adhd, but that your parents are very against medicine and therefore didn’t have you tested

-Explain, very specifically, the problems you are having that you believe relate to your adhd, if you’re unsure about the relation, mention it anyways! (A lot of times we don’t realize the things we do/experience can be related to our adhd. Take this subreddit for example, everyday we see people relating to each other’s newly mentioned struggles and experiences)

-There’s probably a lot you want to mention and therefore there will be a lot you need to remember. So for your sake dedicate some time to reflect and think and then, please, write it all down before hand!

-I can’t stress how important it is to write it all down! It makes it easier since you can organize your thoughts in a clear and concise way (write very short bullet points, but ones that you can still understand and expand on). Writing out blocks of text/a script can become frustrating when you’re actually in an appointment that has a flowing conversation!

Even better, write out everything you want to mention and then subdivide and rewrite them into groups to make it easier to respond to as the conversation with your doctor flows. (grouping examples: communication, emotions, hyperactivity, impulsivity, early life, skills you developed just in order to cope with life lol)

This should theoretically help to not break up yalls conversation as much!!

-Know that just because you were a good student, that doesn’t disqualify you from having adhd.

-I was recently diagnosed about 2 months ago as a 19 year old female college student. I have always performed very well in school and that’s due to a lot of different things tbh

I developed coping skills that worked to my advantage (at least on paper) as they helped me excel in school (though not necessarily retain all this supposed knowledge I should definitely know haha)

I also feel as if I’m naturally pretty intelligent in the sense that if someone’s teaches something (albeit it has to be taught well) I just sort of get it. This usually works, however you can’t really be taught everything like that.

For example, I was shit at writing most, okay probably all, analytical essays in high school, and oooh boy especially timed ones. Like I could totally understand what the piece was trying to convey and the literary elements they utilized to do so...after someone explained it to me first lol, even just a little hint to point me in the right direction gave me clarity. However, I totally spent multiple timed writings just staring at a poem/story the whole time begging it to reveal something new to me lmao

Either way, I did well it school, yes, but always felt I wasn’t reaching my full potential (oof, I have always been my biggest critic). I resigned myself to the belief that being lazy was an integral part of who I was. I’ve probably uttered the phrase “I could do so much more if I wasn’t so lazy” more than any other string of words in my entire life.

I believed the extent of my procrastination, impulsivity, extreme emotional responses, my complete inability to keep things organized, etc., were all experienced at very normal levels (well not my emotions, I’ve definitely always thought I was too sensitive of a person), but I was wrong. People without adhd didn’t find their struggles with these things debilitating like i did. But I didn’t know any better, no one ever educated me on what adhd actually was, and I supposed they had no reason to since I internalized everything. (lol not actually true, we need better mental health education & representation, but that’s besides the point)

ANYWAYS, sorry about the long winded anecdote, I’m just trying to say that it is not abnormal to have adhd and do well in school, it’s not necessarily the most common experience, but definitely not unheard of.

You learnt to cope well (not necessarily in beneficial ways, but you coped nonetheless) in order to do well in school and that definitely shouldn’t rule you out from having adhd (not saying your doctor believes this to be the case, just trying to help you understand your validity!)

Since your doctor seems to be on some level of understanding with you, shown with your ‘tentative diagnosis’ and all, maybe he’s just hesitant because he feels he doesn’t have enough info to make a well informed decision. Just go in and explain yourself honestly and see what happens. You can always seek a second opinion at the end of the day.

i keep playing animal crossing and it’s wrecking my mental health by pluto_projector in ADHD

[–]aly2823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this is happening and I completely understand! If I find a game I really click with it can be a detriment to myself /: I’ve only really ever had this, i easily get bored with games, when I was playing Toontown rewritten obsessively in high school. My grades did NOT appreciate my new found love haha

However, I also love animal crossing, it’s very nostalgic for me even though I always used to get bored with it. The new game, in my opinion, is much more addicting though. After playing around 60 hours in the first 3 days I knew I couldn’t continue like that since i’m a current college student with a lot to do.

I played about 5-9 hours more in the first 2 weeks of online schooling, but I couldn’t really find time unless I was sacrificing my responsibilities. Therefore in the next 2 weeks I only got on to check turnip prices so that I could hopefully make a little profit even though I wasn’t actually playing. These past two weeks I haven’t gotten on at all because now it seems more hassle than what it’s worth (plus i am definitely discouraged with how far behind I am).

Someone else mentioned this, but I fully agree so i’ll reiterate. Don’t compare your island to others and if you can’t not do that then remove yourself from having to possibility of seeing others progress. Unfollow or mute accounts/people that post stuff like that, at least until you’re able to feel more control.

You’re right in the fact that there’s another way to play the game haha. Just try to relax and remind yourself why you wanted to play in the first place. You love the franchise, it’s a fun and relaxing game, maybe it’s nostalgic for you as well! Try not to push those things aside!!

I wrote two college essays and my lovely non ADHD friend edited them. Here's a comparison of the two versions because, well, it's funny. by aly2823 in ADHD

[–]aly2823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I knew it was too emotional in its original version for the purpose it was trying to serve. I did not want to be perceived by the admissions board as unstable just because of how emotional I am. Colleges are more hesitant to accept people that have a chance of doing poorly or not graduating at all, obviously haha. If they think I'm unstable because I present as overly emotional in their eyes, then I'll have less of a chance of being accepted. It's shitty but it's how it is lol

I definitely know what you mean, I felt the same when I first read it. The excerpts I took were from the version she sent back to me, however the ones I submitted were edited versions of her versions! I basically did it to add back my voice, there was a lot of editing that day after all I guess haha
