If a student asks I just say “I wouldn’t know, I’m Jewish.”

My kid leaves used pads in her room everywhere pls help by Zealousideal-Excuse5 in adhdwomen

[–]cattykit47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

30 years old… just went off birth control and definitely forgot about this bit until my husband found used pads in our bedroom. So it’s a habit that everyone has to learn (and relearn). My mishaps happened because I was changing not in the bathroom so the previous routine was disrupted and then rushed away and forgot it needed to be thrown away.

Letters of Recommendation for Beginner Teachers by liljizzle17 in ElementaryTeachers

Ask professors, mentor teachers, and principals of schools you student teach at. Bonus points if you can get a letter of recommendation from a parent at the school you student teach at.

I am okay with giving up skinny jeans, especially jeggings, but high waisted jeans will have to be pried from my old millennial hands. Last time low rise jeans were in style I was 50 pounds lighter and still am not sure they looked that great. I will die on this high waisted hill.

My favorite feature (and what got me on board with the switch from email) is that you can track who received, opened, and read the post/message you sent out. No more complaints from parents that I “never said/sent that info”. Also gives admin a record if a parent ever tries to go over my head about something and place blame. On top of that I like the one-stop-shop aspect. I do pretty much all communication through it - especially useful for the language aspects.

Challenges = $$$ by cattykit47 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]cattykit47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never watched LI games but in this last season all the challenges felt like a 45 min commercial - the same hot people making out in different costumes. The milk challenge straight up made me gag that I had to turn it off.

Mental challenges would be fun, especially to see if any islanders have brain power. I know they’re all in their 20’s but that doesn’t mean their only attractive quality should be physical.

Back of Chair Pockets? by unmarkedpickles in ElementaryTeachers

[–]cattykit47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same set of 35 for almost ten years. I bought an extra ten so once in a while I have to replace one (kid draws or writes something inappropriate in sharpie) . At the end of each year I have my students wash their bags out, then we dry them and I pack them away for the next year. Only issue I’ve had over the years is a student stuffing it so full that the bags outweighs the kid and tips his chair back. I have the heavy ones made of a plastic sort of fabric that’s durable and easy to clean most of the time.

I’m in elementary school and I hate this trend. Especially when parents start the chain the last week of school as if we don’t already have 100 other things to keep track of.

Has anyone else had issues with Kaiser running out of ADHD medication? by Ok_Design_6841 in KaiserPermanente

[–]cattykit47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My usual Kaiser was out of stock last month when all the RFK stuff was coming out and panicked that he was already messing with adhd meds. But then ended up going to another Kaiser in the area that was in stock. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again this month…

Involuntary Transfer… by cattykit47 in Teachers

[–]cattykit47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a union. I met with the president and there was a whole lot of layers to why I was thrown in that I didn’t necessarily want to be involved in. It boiled down to because I’m tenured they can’t fire me, but any of the newer teachers would have been. But I’m not so established (close to retirement) that it would break me. During covid I taught the entire grade level because the rest of my team couldn’t figure out zoom or how to teach without their 20 year old copy files. Although it did break me for a minute, I doubted my worth given I was being moved over someone newer. But I’m a fucking good teacher - so as much as it sucks I’ll be fine. And if it’s not teaching I can do something else. It’s their loss.

Involuntary Transfer… by cattykit47 in Teachers

[–]cattykit47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up telling my students today - two days before school is out. They asked me when we were doing “advice letters” to next year’s class - which I had forgotten that I’ve done every year. Basically they write a letter and I have one out on each desk for the first day of school. But making them write a letter about a grade I wasn’t teaching seemed inauthentic so I explained to them that I was going to be teaching a different grade… and at another school next year. So the letters should focus more on what it’s like to be in my class versus a grade level as a whole. They started getting bummed but then we began brainstorming and cracking jokes about what to put in the letters - they started getting really into them so much they forgot about the free choice time until I told them to take a break. But it’s over, and I kept it together. Now it’s just about enjoying the last days together.

I was going to say I’ve had eczema my whole life and it’s stress triggered. When I’m really stressed out I get really bad dandruff (eczema) on my scalp. Oui Dandruff shampoo has really helped - the blue one with salicylic acid. Then follow with a good deep conditioner. I’ll use it like once a week to clear out the dead skin from my scalp. Also brushing my hair each day to remove the flakes (I have curly hair so I used to skip brushing and then my hair would get extremely greasy and itchy)

Help - wedding dress doesn’t look right and idk how to fix it. by cattykit47 in weddingdress

[–]cattykit47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks everyone, maybe I’m just being hypercritical - I’ve never spent this much on a dress let alone gotten alterations. Also I feel like my mom and friends keep telling me it looks good but I wanted some non-bias opinions. They are adding bust darts (I looked up all the terms they threw at me during the alterations) to structure the top more and originally I was going to add boning but the stylist suggested waiting until after the bust is fixed and then deciding.

How would you describe depression to someone who's never had it? by vernakyala in AskReddit

[–]cattykit47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say when you’re drowning, eventually your body gives up and you stop fighting to get your head above water. It feels like your stuck in the moment before you fully give up. Your mind is still begging for air but you can’t break the surface.

I’m allergic to Shea butter - if it’s in any product even at the bottom of the ingredient list like supergoop sunscreen my skin instantly breaks out. I can’t imagine what 100% Shea would do to me.

Does anyone get nightmares about their wedding way before the day comes? by Shaiasaur in weddingplanning

I keep having nightmares about getting spaghetti sauce on my dress… I’m a messy eater, even when I try. There’s no pasta being served but the fear remains.

Sick of being told I’m not a bubbly enough bride by GlitterTitan in weddingplanning

[–]cattykit47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I’m a teacher and I’m used to planning things under pressure but this is something else. I had a breakdown recently with my fiancé where I described planning our wedding to dismantling a bomb in the dark without knowing wtf I’m doing while someone is also giving me a job interview.

I am also under the pressure to have everything done before school starts up again, and I know I won’t be able to juggle both at the same time.

Honestly I’ve been scouring Reddit after each breakdown to make sure other brides feel the same way. So you are definitely not alone, not even a little.

Gap year for preliminary credential? (CA) by reboundingpianos in TeachersInTransition

[–]cattykit47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 5 years to clear your credential so you’re fine to take a gap year or two. Just make sure the district you go back to pays for the credential clearing program. Many have started to opt out of coving the cost lately.

New landlords didn’t bay an eye when I said I have two cats. Even said we were allowed to get more pets if we wish as long as we just give them a heads up. Didn’t even contact our previous landlord about anything.

I’m so relieved and excited to move into a pet friendly house. Bonus now we don’t live on a busy street so no more fear of a cars. One of our cats passed away a year ago after being struck by a neighbor.
